I have to agree - sometimes a few "gentle" wacks can do immense wonders for our techno-toys! It always amazes me when I ask someone technical to fix my computer and the first thing they do is "Jiggle the insides." (The second thing of course is to blow the dust inside around.)

But welcome back Bud, I have to admit I've been lost at work myself so I guess welcome back from me could have two meanings having missed you from my own fault as well.

You have your own version in India - Holi. In 2007, I traveled between Delhi and Agra, back and forth, over the weekend of Holi. The way people paint their faces with the gulal and celebrate is much like our Halloween. I remember seeing auto-rickshaws FILLED with many people, all with their faces painted yellow, pink, green, blue, purple - it was amazing!

In a way yes, the craziness matches. Holi is many things to many people. I'd love to have a real Halloween though, pumpkins and all. The spirit of Halloween with the lights and the element of the supernatural, reminds me more of Bhoot Chaturdashi which is the dark night before the Diwali dawn.

Maya, what an adorable depiction of the spooky wonderfulness of halloween type holidays. There is so much wonder to halloween that I believe we all enjoy it because of its ability to bring out the child in all of us! Thanks for sharing the blog!
In the New Mexico the Pueblos do a celebration that comes on November 1st where families feast with visitors from outside the pueblo or from another pueblo. After eating the visitors are taken around the pueblo from house to house where they say a prayer and a blessing, the door opens and the family inside gives them food. The family giving food is blessed more and more for what is given away.
There is always the chance the person at the door may be an ancestor and that of course is more blessings for the food given. (It is very spooky walking streets that haven't changed much in over a century, you just never know!)

If we look below the surface I think all our celebrations have a lot more in common than we think. In India there is a custom in some families to invite a "guest of honor" to partake of a special meal and receive gifts (usually a needy person) on death anniversaries of ancestors. The guest (often someone you don't know) is present at the prayer service and is considered to represent the ancestor. There are some who literally believe that he/she carries the spirit of the departed and it is a little spooky. To me it feels like a way to be mindful of someone in need and include them in your family like their filling an empty place. You connect with and try to fill the need of another human being on a day when you are missing your own loved one. And the community that gathers for the commemoration (yes there are lots of guests) feel blessed as one.

Yes if people should look more what we have in common in our culture they would see how many things are infact the same or for the same reasons the same purpose only in another robe.that's fine hear we learn from eachother (buildig our bridges)thanks Regii

Regii, you are so right. Look at what has happened with all of us - we have made friends with each other just because we love the music of one man. When I met some of you in London, it seemed we already knew each other. Just imagine if the whole world had their own "Yusuf" - what a different world it would be.

I didn't know anything about Holi until that weekend,so I didn't know what I was doing. I will have to find my blog that I kept and add some things to it for you. It was such a special trip...
