Did anyone here, get a ticket for the "Yusuf BBC Radio Theatre Concert" Wednesday 3rd June 2009. I only ask, as not one person, that I know to, has a ticket! I can only imagine they have all gone to BBC employees and their friends!!! I know that Helen, rang and was told that all winners had already been informed! www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/yusuf/

Not me. I'd entered with the thought that if I got lucky, I'd extend our trip a few days. But nope. I'd also applied for tickets to the Graham Norton Show taping on the 27th, as Mark and I enjoy it over here on BBC America. Have yet to hear back from the company that handles those tickets, though I'm guessing by now it's not likely to happen. -Joanne

...Closing date is May 31st and winners will be notified soon after. Gahhhhh! We must check out of our hotel by 11am on the 1st and be at Heathrow by 4pm...but I entered anyway, and included a note asking that if I happen to get lucky, they try to inform me in time to extend my stay! LOL -Joanne

Having major problems with my computer and phone this morning so wasn't able to email earlier.
Not long found out I would be going. Great surprise.
There is no guarantee of getting in as they send out almost double the amount of tickets than the studio holds but will give it my best shot. I am planning on getting there really early as I am on crutches recovering from knee surgery and it's a 100 mile round trip for me so hopefully I will be lucky and I would hate to do that journey for nothing. I can always hit someone with one of my sticks if they say I can't get in!!
They do not allow you to take photo's or video's in there and I know that the BBC are red hot on that as I know of someone who got thrown out taking a photo from a previous show, so no photo's will be posted.
I will write down what Yusuf sings (and wears for anyone interested) and will put it on the site as soon as I can.

PORTOBELLO ROAD BLACKNESS OF THE NIGHT MAYBE YOU'RE RIGHT
Well, it was a historic set list... still can't beleive it... hardly waiting to hear the concert on Saturday night (if I would be able to stream BBC radio player from Croatia... so, please... majicaters from UK... it would be great if someone record the radiostream and makes it awailable for us which can't make BBC radio player to work in our country... tnx)

Although the setlist has been posted, here is a little something the sound guy gave me on the way out. My wife and I enjoyed this concert hugely, our first time seeing Yusuf. All the best, Humbug

Welcome to Majicat, Humbug! What a nice keepsake, I must admit to being "slightly" envious of all that got to see Yusuf, last night, but I am just being greedy! If only this had been filmed, we could have all enjoyed this special evening I hope that the Shepherds Bush Concert, makes it to DVD.

Welcome Humburg! Could you describe a little bit more how it was on the show... how did sound his old songs like P. Road, Blackness... does he play guitar on Into White or he sung this song sitting at the table (like also The Wind, I suppose)? For me this set list was one of his best ever... Yeah, I'am realy jelaous on you lucky ones... but in a positive way

Welcome to Majicat Humburg, Details, PLEASE!! What was this Table Talk? Ohhhh Portabella Road!! Blackness of the Night, Oh Very Young. What a setlist.
Crobarbie, you are not alone in your feelings of happy jealousy. I know the feeling. I guess we are only being human being jealous or envious and still be happy for our dear Majicat comrades. It is just nice to know that at least a few people got in to see this fine performance....

Crobarbie
Here's a bit more description of the evening at the BBC.
He was introduced by Johnnie Walker who for those who do not know is a British DJ of long standing from the old pirate ship days and Radio's 1 and 2. He always played Yusuf/Cat's music way back in the 60's and 70's and still has an affection for him and has interviewed him on numerous occasions. It's nice to see Johnnie Walker looking so good as he has had problems with cancer. A worthy person to introduce Yusuf. The only other person worthy enough would have been DJ Bob Harris (from The Old Grey Whistle Test fame and of course radio DJ).
When Yusuf came on and went straight into "Oh Very Young" the audience were sold I think. You never know what sort of audience you get on these sort of shows as it is not always fans who apply for tickets. Sometimes its people who just want an evening out.
As you so rightly said I think it's the best list set of songs that I have ever heard him do. The only thing that would have put the crowning glory on the night for me would have been to hear him sing "The First Cut Is The Deepest" which is up there with my top favourites of "Oh Very Young", "Maybe You're Right", "Don't Be Shy", and "Two Fine People" and "Blackness Of The Night"
His voice sounded just as good when he sang his old stuff. In fact better at times, as it was a more mature voice. I did hear him sing "Blackness Of The Night" 2 years ago when I saw him at the Curzon Mayfair but that was just with him and a guitar and no backing.
On Wednesday he was laughing and joking with the audience about getting in free and he made a few false starts which we all joked along with him. I think he seemed to do that when he looked at the autocue. It seemed to put him off. We all could have been his private autocue, as I am sure the majority of people knew all the words. The BBC will probably cut those bits out which would be a shame as it would add to the recording I think. After all he hadn't sang a lot of those songs in many a year, so he was entitled to make a few errors. It added to the evening and he clearly didn't get upset with the mistakes like he would in the '70's. A much calmer person now.
"Into White" - he sang sitting at the table with no guitar. Followed by "The Wind" Told a little story about him wanting to become an artist and turning his art into words and music.
The evening went far too quickly but I have to admit it has to have been one of the best concerts he has ever done (and I have been fortunate enough to have seen many over the years).
It would be great if it had been recorded for viewing and not just the radio as I am sure he would like to have had a momento of that evening. You never know.
Hope this gives you a bit more insight to a magical evening. Just a shame that so many good fans didn't manage to be there in person, but you all were in spirit I can tell you.
I do consider myself to have been very fortunate.
Juliette
