What I really wonder is why he didn't perform any song from An Other Cup on the concert at Shepherd's Bush Empire, BBC Theatre, or, more than two months ago, in Germany before a closed audience.
In my humble opinion, An Other Cup was a grand album with some of his best-composed songs.

Hi Jacky,
I just went back and read your review of 'An Other Cup', excellent review!
I loved what you said, that his voice is "eternal like a rock in the sea". That is a beautiful way to put it and so very true.

[ Humbug you were very lucky to have got or won BBC tickets for the concert considering your not a huge Cat fan. Me on the other hand had all my friends and family enter for me I even phoned from my mobile to enter as I was abroad at the time I was holding on so long that the call cost me £58.00 And still I was not lucky. Never mind maybe next time.

Helen, I went on behalf of a big fan who won the tickets, then couldn't make it because of work commitments.
It's unfair..but then so many things are.
On the plus side, I would like to send out CD copies of the audience recording that I made (83 minutes). I already have two people to send to, who have promised in turn to pass it on, one in US, and one in the UK. I am trying to contact a couple more people that have been suggested to me..so the full recording will get heard.
My only request is that it doesn't get put on one of the file sharing sites (eg Dimeadozen) - I was just a bit naughty recording the show, and the less people that know about it outside this community, the better!
Thanks,
Humbug

My dear Helen ........ sweetie - you did get to see Yusuf at the Shepherd's Bush show ...... and have seem in other past events, correct Life is not always fair ...... sweetie - do you know how many people would LOVE to see this man perform, and have dreamed of it for years, but know that they will NEVER have a chance, ever I am one of those people .... I know I will never be able to see him perform live. It's just the way it is. Guess I have to accept that. I can dream - but in all reality, I know that dream will not come true. Please .... be happy that you did get to see him. Sooooo many people would trade places with you in a minute. Hugs ...... Nancy

Nancy, Don't be so quick to give up on the dream! I did, and then ended up being invited to LA at the last minute. You never know...life is full of little surprises. Hey, we never thought "the Cat" would be back- -but he is, better than ever. I truly feel there will be more opportunities to see him in person. (and I'm gonna be there again!) We've just gotta let him get his feet wet and realize how much we need his music. As Yusuf says where there is darkness, there will be someone seeking light...keep your little candle burning and I will too. You'll see him...I believe it! Richina

Nancy Yes your right I am lucky to have seen him perform many time as Cat and Yusuf. I shouldn't be so greedy Richina is also right "Do not give up on seeing him perform" I never in a million years expected to see him perform as Yusuf.

Hi all majicat chums It's been a nice opportunity to read everyone's experiences over this last month or so and to see videos and hear recordings of this performance as well as tuning in for the BBC 2 radio theatre broadcast. How wonderful for all who were there! Of course, unlike a record, cd or video/dvd, a live performance is all too singular an event. Like Juliette wrote a few times - I admit to being happy for all yet felt quite left out and jealous, I couldn't help it! And I understand what Nancy means! I never had the opportunity and it really does seem highly unlikely that I will have an opportunity to now, even if he were to come all the way to Tasmania - I'd like to think I could make the effort to go, but I'm unwell these days which only adds to the impossibility (looking at it realistically). For some folks the hand of fate just seems to all fall against them, no matter how much they truly believed and worked to achieve throughout their lives - life is just hard. I was born into a poor family. We migrated to Australia in 1967. My father was hoping for a better life for his family. My mother would have been happier to stay in England and none of us kids wanted to leave, but being young that wouldn't normally have mattered for long. Kids adapt. But, we didn't. And the weather was unbearable. The only person who thrived in the heat was my dad. Still, he wanted to return to England like the rest of us - and he tried for many years, but it was too expensive to return home. There are countless stories of migrants who came to Australia and stayed and loved it here. There is, without doubt, much to like about Australia if you're suited to it. We weren't. We were among many others who realised England was indeed where we belonged. Many of those people made it back home. After many, many years now, one of my sisters enjoys it here and is happy to call herself an aussie girl. My parents' marriage broke down in a bad way when I was 12. My Dad died back in 2002. My Mum and brother made it back to England 9 years ago. Mum suffered a few strokes a few years ago and was left with dementia as a result and now lives in a home. I've not even been able to go over and see her. My daughter died of an aneurysm a few years ago. I've raised my son alone since he was 2. There was a time when I was able to go back to England, but my son's mother wouldn't allow it. My son, now 26, is flying out to the u.k. next month! He's hoping to do what I couldn't. And hopefully, he can find a way to stay and look into seeing if I can receive a British pension so that I can go back at last. Wish us luck in our venture!! Cheers! Jon

It is very sad and at the same time very touching reading both your posts. Life has been very hard on you both, but being able to share your inner thoughts and personal experiences, you may find comfort. Wish life was kinder to both of you, and wished life had spared you so much grief and pain, but it's a comfort to know you are not alone.
I wish you find the strenghth through the love of your children, and friends, to keep your heart in the light, and not in the dark.

Jon, I really hope your dream of returning home will happen. It is really sad that you had to live so far away from home for so long and not be able to return. My fingers are crossed for you.
Soitis, I am so sorry to read about your wife. May you find peace within your heart and cherish your wives memories always.
It's when I read stores such as this, that I know I don't have it so bad. You both are beautiful and may you both rise high above your trials.

My thoughts, exactly, Christine. I have come to know Jon as a friend over the past couple of years and have shared some of his ups and downs. But this is the first time I realised the full horrors he has been through - it's not surprising that his health has suffered. It's just so sad.
It's people like Jon who would really benefit from seeing Yusuf - something to look forward to, find uplifting, then reflect upon. I truly wish that Jon manages to get back to England where, through Majicat, he already has many friends, and I pray that, when he does get here he achieves his dream. Soitis, I am really pleased that you managed to get over here and I hope that you really enjoyed your evening!
Stories like the last two really do put life into perspective - my heart goes out to both of you. Please take comfort through this forum - you have friends here!
All the best, Novim

My dear kind friends! Thankyou for these very caring words. I am at once comforted by your warm hearts. My own words were a spur of the moment unraveling which only just made it to the page in a relatively small number of words when weighed against living it and attempting to live the impacted life that follows. Life changes in ways so foreign to any sense of surety that once was all too briefly perceived. Yet, even as I was writing, I felt that I shouldn't be revealing these parts of my life. I paused at the end, wondering if I had any right to 'complain' - even tho' I knew I wasn't complaining, that I was, I am, simply hurting and needed to say what I said. And so, I'm grateful and truly thankful. And my heart is with you Soitis, I'm saddened to read of your loss at such a recent time and I feel real empathy for you, your son and your daughter. Yes, it is a sad life. May you and I both find a time in our life, where we can indeed smile again and feel the colours of love warming our hearts deep deep inside. Take care Soitis. And Vicki, Christine and Chris, please know how much I appreciate your warm embracing words and support. Jon

Thank you all who sympathize with me.I know that I have friends among you.Trip to London helped me a lot.I meet with some of you personally and I know that you all are good people.Guaranty for that is that you all love Cat/Yusuf and his music. And indeed, one can find comfort in his songs. My wifes name was Rose and I wrote on her tomb Cats words:This Rose will never die.
I loved you my lady, though in your grave you lie, I’ll always be with you This rose will never die, this rose will never die…
I am sorry, maybe this is not good place for such posts , but you know we are all getting into ages when bad things like that could happened. And when they come it is good to know that you are not alone. That many people go trough same bad things as you do and that a lot of people care about your sadness.
I am hear to help as you are helping me.
Peace, Soitis

It was nice meeting you in London and I wish we could have spent more time getting to know each other. I would encourage you to come to Majicat often; I have found many new friends here and those friends have helped me even if they don't know it.

I'll send a nice long email soon! We can talk Yusuf and Family Guy!

Gabi I just love the way you put it," As we have to amuse with old stuff." It may be quiet here these days, but aren't we so lucky that we have so much to amuse with, and so many wonderful memories. I think last year, we got more than we ever dreamed for. We are also lucky for people such as yourself, who still pop in every now and then, with news, thoughts, and warm wishes. Anyway, hopefully it shouldn't be to long till we have some news on what Yusuf is planning this year. Thanks Gabi, thankyou all.

We went nearly 30 years without anything, and now something from last year is "old." I guess he has spoiled us just a tiny bit in the last year, hasn't he? Well, there better be an announcement about that musical soon or we may just all go crazy - for those of you who aren't there quite yet; I'll be happy to have you join me! ;D Jane

Do you think he got spooked by the angry reaction to the musical in his Guess I'll Take My Time Tour (even though it was a tiny minority)? Maybe now he's being very careful about how and when he re-introduces the musical?

Maybe now he's being very careful about how and when he re-introduces the musical? I don't think so - judging from what we have heard about the Birmingham and Liverpool concerts, and what I saw and heard at Royal Albert Hall - the musical was very well received after Dublin. He admitted that the reaction in Dublin was largely due to the audience's lack of understanding about the sequence of the show. I think it just takes a lot of time to get a show to the stage, and we need to be patient, as difficult as that is. And a bit of time to save for the plane ticket doesn't hurt, either!
