Below is from Alun's blog - Teaser St.News: According to Trevor's blog Susan joined them for Oh Very Young in Christchurch - I first thought that all four of them appeared together but it seems Bruce and Susan appeared with Yusuf on separate nights. And I guess Yusuf is becoming more okay with females singing on stage with him.
Tuesday 29th
"Bruce is coming on stage with us tonight to play “Just Another Night” and here I thank everyone in the band for putting him at ease and making him feel so welcome. Especially Trevor who accommodates a second bass part with great taste. Yusuf brings him on saying “Where did Bruce use to stand? ……. Was it here?” “No more like there” etc ….. “Hey, that reminds me of a song” ……
Farewell drink in the hotel later. Eventually left Bruce finishing his Sauvignon Blanc in the now deserted bar. “I’m fine Al, just want to sit quiet for a minute.” I go up stairs and do the same."

Last night I watched the RAH-videos again after a few weeks of abstinence - know what, tears were in my eyes... Oh how I long for a repeat of this touching experience Gabi - I'm glad to know I am not the only one! Whether it is watching the videos or playing the audio of the concerts (RAH and SBE) I get emotional every time. While I am happy that some did not have to wait a lifetime to see him, it is a completely different experience to have waited almost 40 years to see this man perform live. Combined with meeting new friends, there is nothing that can compare. Nothing. See you again soon, my friend. Jane

I agree with you !! That has to be the most Epiphanic Concert I've experienced of Yusufs... so personal emanating Joy Humility Pathos Love and Grateful Strength .. He just has to make a DVD of it ... I remember him talking about the concert they did in 72' there at RAH and "perhaps this is even better" Have you seeen the vids that NEILTHFC has posted on You Tube of that night ?? oxox Joy, C

Did anybody record Yusuf's encore? I've seen all of the sets on YouTube except for the encore. I really would love to hear and see him perform Lilywhite (new version).
I saw the video from Dublin and it sounds so beautiful! The recording from Dublin wasn't the clearest, though. I wonder if anyone has a clearer recording of the new version of Lilywhite from Auckland?

Yusuf is so sweet in this video. He's trying to tell the story of his inspiration for this song - and does it quite lovely (except for some bloke in the background disrupts and sidetracks the tenderness of Yusuf's message). Yusuf does well in ignoring the vulgar comments. Anyways, Yusuf's message was lovely. This is Lilywhite (new version) from Dublin, November 15, 2009: www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=eeeCIPwKtks&vq=medium&playlist=DHXpnZi9Hzs,7sjSHazjrWg,1TWd3skb-Rw,GYKJuDxYr3I,A2iS8XctJKo,Ctb-SrwL884,iiOnmhMw9XE,NB5_N-D5sv0,tPk11AugG4c,BYQaD2CAi9A,Ooq3JbWbdjk,kGNxKnLmOH4,18x_7lZMzeY,9ik1pxav-CM,9B3_of9CY24,1l0fH0dRUow,f-3TZiyY9Sk,9hUy9ePyo6Q,Kb92tJkSmrw,WuG35Tbrtbw,1bA1j8quV64,pDYxgDO5bCI,-rQJ6KQjDG0,a_2bSvTbvck,USVvxcaa4OA,v9mt5ODJ6xg,CWWDQFqvjvI,xO-tEq4HP3E,79fkir9alzA,Ge5x8Cccw0A,Jek6iP6AuAQ,2ojNhtQOsHk,pCTYxIsLThA,Yyh2lSow0uE,m_jmDscGi7E,N9qkn7OlbM8,jFowNFvmUxw,jtuvXrTz8DY,b_eUnxDE8YY,aLeWB3C2cLoDoes anyone have a clearer recording of the new version of Lilywhite from Auckland?

So, it seems that "Lilywhite" is a kind of glowing, heavenly, angel-in-white who guided Yusuf to the light of dawn/divine light on that snowy morning. This new version of "Lilywhite" reminds me of this verse from "Welcome Home" on the Roadsinger album: Never did I imagine What a dawn could be Till I opened my eyes, to see It was welcoming me Also, from "Dream On (Until...)" on the same album: Dream on, dream on Dream on through the dark night Dream on, dream on Dream on, till the light and from "One Day at a Time" on An Other Cup:One day at a time, a child is born into this world, eyes blind But one day he will find his sight, and glimpse another kind of Light To live by – one day and of course "I Think I See the Light" I think I see the light coming to me, Coming through me, Giving me a second sight and from "Where Are You?" on New Masters:I know there’s someone there I hear her breathe Behind the silence of the dark But I know that I won’t see ‘Till we open up our eyes together She’ll look at me What a moment that moment will be! And she looks so light I could fly her through the night And, of course, Everything emptying into White (It's interesting that "White" is written with a capital "W") I guess you could say that these verses are "sunlit from heaven" - reminiscent of "Morning Has Broken" - no wonder Cat liked that song: Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning Born of the one light, Eden saw play Praise with elation, praise every morning God's recreation of the new day
~Sun~ P.S. The accompaniment to "Lilywhite" is so pretty...

Suncatcher, I saw that theme throughout many of his songs. They tell a spiritual story of life's mystery still awaiting to be discovered.
I love the picture that you posted of the woman, obviously being torn to shreds by the storm, when God helps her along and lifts her up.

Thankyou Sun, that was beautiful reading. It brings peace to the mind. Yusuf does have a rare gift with words, pure and simple poetry. Yusuf is on a much higher spriritual level than most people. I'm sure the 'light' has touched Yusuf and his inner soul very deeply, and this must explain the warm glowing aura that surrounds him. I think he has been blessed, and he has found the 'light' we are all looking for. I guess it's the way you look at things that allows you to see the 'light'. Open heart, and open mind.

I'm glad you like that picture, too - and your description is perfect. Yes - she is being torn to shreds. And I like how she reaches out to God and He reaches right back. And I love what you say about how Yusuf's songs "...tell a spiritual story of life's mystery still awaiting to be discovered." Yes - and actually being discovered, in Yusuf's case at least. And your post reminded me of another verse that goes with the new version of "Lilywhite" and the idea of "seeking and finding the light": "Moonshadow" Did it take long to find me? I asked the faithful light Oh, did it take long to find me? And are you gonna stay the night? I've always thought that you chose such a beautiful username - faithfullight - and you did. It's so meaningful - such a reassuring and hopeful name - faithfullight - I love this name. Peace, ~Sun~

What you wrote is so beautiful, and so true, Vicki. Thank you for your insight - you have that aura of light about you, as well. I think many of Yusuf's fans have been touched by his light, and it's being spread around, especially of late, with the Tour Down Under. The idea of the angel and divine light is not new. I did read these posts over at yusufislam.com, and would like to give credit to Irene Keech and Marion Yates: Irene Keech, I read your previous comment before the Auckland concert about how you were one of the nurses in the hospital the 'Steven' stayed at when he had terbuculosis. How wonderful for you to have seen him play live so many years later, and for Yusuf to get to hear from you again in this blog. It's silly, but for some reason I always thought that Yusuf's song 'Lilywhite' must have been about an Angelic vision he'd had while in hospital, I read later that it was about the purity of snow after a 'dark' night. Any way, what a lovely thing... 30 Jun 2010 Marion Yates Marion Yates: Not such a stupid idea about Lilywhite, I use to think the same, as my hat was pleated up and like a lily at the back, ridiculous really. Also it was around Easter time that we had a heavy snow fall, I remember because we had nurses from India who had never seen snow before, they took off there shoes and danced in the snow. Seems we were both wrong! 30 Jun 2010 Irene Keech Irene Keech: I think of the "Lilywhite" as a symbol of Divine Light; snow, an Angel, or maybe a caring Nurse could all contribute to someone's sense of the Divine, particularly if someone was very unwell. I think Nurses are heaven sent and absolutely under-valued in our society. My mother was a nurse in the late sixties looking after sick babies (she had one of those caps too!), and the Midwife I had for my son's birth at home is undoubtedly guided by Divine Light. So I say keep your feeling about yourself and that song! Best Wishes Marion P.S. (sorry to Yusuf's website administrator for co-opting this blog momentarily!)
Webmaster's Reply: No apologies necessary...please carry on! 01 Jul 2010 Marion Yates I always thought that the "Webmaster's Reply" was really Yusuf - just a feeling. Peace, ~Sun~

BTW, thank you for this video, faithfullight. I've written down the new "Lilywhite" lyrics (with the new chorus) from Dublin - at least as well as I can hear them - if anyone hears them differently, it'd be nice to know so we can edit them. I wonder if the Down Under version of "Lilywhite" is the same. We may have to wait for the DVD to know for sure. Lilywhite (new version, Dublin 2010)
Back up on the mended road I pause Taking time to check the dial And the Lilywhite I never knew her name She’ll be passing my way sometime again
No one could save my life that night Only the one true Lilywhite
I raise my hand and touch the wheel of change Taking time to check the dial And the Lilywhite I never knew her name But she’ll be passing my way sometime again
No one could save my life that night Until I saw the Lilywhite No one could walk me to the light Only the one true Lilywhite No one could save my world that night Until the dawn – I saw the light! Until the snow fell in my sight Until that snow - the Lilywhite No one could save my world that night Only the one…true Lilywhite

I agree, downunder. I am quite sure that one must have an open heart and an open mind before one may find the beauty which lies hidden in the spiritual domain. Not everyone finds it and those people don't know what they're missing. Some people glide along life's path and never find the things of the spirit. It seems that Yusuf had a special ability at a young age to look into a spiritual "porthole" about his own future (along his spiritual path), but didn't know it until he grew older because God brought many things that he dreamt about to life. It amazes me how awesome God is! The Light is so thrilling and makes me so happy!

I chose my username from that song because it resonates deeply within my own life's journey. I want to thank you for posting the words to the new version of Lilywhite. I thought that was what he was saying as well. There were just a couple of words that I wasn't sure about. ------------ If Yusuf should read this thread, I want to thank Yusuf from the depths of my heart for singing what you do. Your words are beautiful and heartfelt. You still make me cry. I guess it will always be that way.

This has been such an interesting thread to read. I love all the spiritual analogies and insight. I seem to recall a translated German article of an interview with Yusuf posted somewhere here on Majicat. If I recall correctly I believe Light was a major topic in the interview.
And then the wonderful story of the nurse, and subsequent replies. Very interesting. And such a cute story. Thanks for sharing it Suncather.
I guess her nursing skills were not up to par, but she was only a student. And since she didn't have a clue who he was, I guess she couldn't very well blame it on nerves! Imagine how the needle would be shaking if one of us had to give it to him - oh boy, we'd need a grapefruit to practice on - maybe even a watermelon ! Lucky girl, she must have cherished those memories all of her life.

I have to agree, the nurse story was pretty cool! But shoot...if I had to give him a shot, somebody would have to give ME one first!! You know, maybe like a tranquilizer!! ;D Nope, 'cause then I'd just stand there drooling, muttering incoherant syllables..... Hee hee, then I'd stumble over there and plant a big ole wet drooly smoochie on him !! (just call me "Ye Olde Kat Kissin' Bandit" ) PS A girl can dream can't she???
