I agree with Vivian, Best of Luck Michael/Al and The Firecats, it looks as if it wil be a very successful and enjoyable evening. And to the rest of you have fun at the tribute. If anyone is interested, I located this website, which features few pictures of Al and the Firecats in concert. www.freiberg.at/Archiv/catstevens/catstevens.html

Thanks for the link, Chris, Looks like Michael's tribute night is going to be a great success. I thought I'd run the German text through 'Babel fish', (you kind of know what to expect from that software though LOL) 'The romantic, dreamed era of the late and 70's 60's beginning was really hinreissend converted by a free mountain acquaintance in new formation. The extremely numerous listeners went along very strongly with melodischen successes of Cat of Stevens, and enjoyed Albert Eigner with its Firecats (Herbert Mushroom and Martin Rider) and to the short appearance of a guest violinist, Inge-borrow decoration. If you would like to again hear the Trio, there would be a concert in England, which is already announced on the American homepage of the Cat of Stevens fan club in March 2005: www.majicat.com/....' Herbert MUSHROOM? I hope that's not a literal translation of his surname, sounds like a 'fun guy', all the same. Good luck with the gig of your dreams, Michael, hope to see you ,and all the other fans, there next month. DJ

Hi The gig is the only one that Al & The firecats are doing in the UK and its a whole night of Cats Music as a Tribute to the great man. There is no plan to repeat the night in the UK so its a "ONE OFF GIG " hope this helps michael

So, the "Night of Remembrance" was also a "one off gig" for the artists who played there? I have never heard that expression before. Dottie

Hi Yes ...if a gig is not going to be repeated in the same way ever again then its a "one off" Our night with what we have planned will NEVER BE REPEATED in this way again..like the night of remembrance. some gigs are done over and over again just in lots of city's...this is not the case with this gig . hope this makes it clear. michael

I went to the gig and I'm so glad I did! I am on something of a high today after having been and having just heard Yusuf's fabulous new release!
As for the tribute gig, it was fantastic. Firstly, big THANK YOUS to Michael for his perseverence and hard work in organising the event and to Yusuf and Zafar for all their support for that wonderful evening. Yusuf/Cat was the undoubted star of the evening and this was a truly humble tribute to his unique songwriting talents. Al and the Firecats were a trio who lovingly performed Cat's music with faithful renditions. There were two 6 string guitars and a keyboard player. Occasionally Al swapped his 6 string for an acoustic bass. They played a brilliant set which included some fantastic versions of Cat's early work such as Matthew and Son and I Love my Dog etc. Al played a superb solo cameo covering about half a dozen of Cat's very early songs. It was wonderful - it was how the songs must have sounded when Cat wrote them before they were orchestrated.
The gig told the story of Cat's musical life and Al's voice on occasions was very reminiscent of Yusuf's. It was probably about as near as you could get to hearing Cat/Yusuf play live. The violinist travelled all the way from Austria to play on 2 songs: Sad Lisa and Into White! The whole thing brought me out in goosebumps! You see, for me, the one thing about Cat Stevens' songs is that they seem so personal. It seems as if they were written just for me - and I know a lot of people will know exactly what I mean. That is why his songs are so precious to me - more so than any other artist.
The venue was small - about a hundred people and was all the better for that intimacy. Well done Michael! You were right to keep this small it made the night so much more precious for those of us fortunate enough to attend. Michael's wife read out messages of support from Gerry Conway and other musicians wishing us all well for the evening. She also told us stories of things Michael had learnt from talking with Zafar, Yusuf's close friend. Michael read an email from Christine. We all wished that she could have been there to share the evening with us.
I am sure that many others will add much more to what I have written and will produce photos too. But I hope this gives those of you who were waiting just a hint of the delights of that evening. If you read this, Al and your band - Thank you for an unforgettable evening!
Best to all, Chris

Thanks Chris for your thoughts about such a wonderful night. It certainly sounds every bit as good as I knew it would ... I would have given my right arm to have been there too! (Well ... almost !) If anyone has the complete song list of the night please could you post it for us? I love the fact that Sad Lisa and Into White were played ... I would have been in "seventh heaven" Jackie
