Avalon you say what i think but there is still music with a message but that's not the comercial music. That music has not much value and it's forgetten in no time. They have nothing serious to tell.We must learn are childeren to listen to music that have something to tell and you will see they learn it.My two daugters came home with that techno or other emty noise but if you let them now the value of the other kind of music they change there point of vieu.If i see what Mohammed Yusuf ' son had listen to in the last years and you see his songs then you now that there's still good music.Regine

The problem is that we want the whole world to yield to our desires.. how selfish! Yusuf is who he is, and he is full of love. So to the critics I say, empty your cup and you will find Yusuf's joy, beauty and true love! Very nice, well written reply, Sayid. I especially like the response above. How nice. :-)

How refreshing!!! When I got to my car later that day, I popped the CD in and enjoyed every song from Yusuf's 'Other Cup.' The problem is that we want the whole world to yield to our desires.. how selfish! Yusuf is who he is, and he is full of love. >> NPR's All Things Considered<<, Dec. 11. (it's kinda nice coz it's an audio review) Wasn't sure whether to put this in Favorable or Unfavorable Reviews thread... overall I think it's (unfortunately) unfavorable... (p.s., happy, LadyD? )

Not sure Lucy, I thought it sounded, like the only song they (the reviewer) had an issue with, was really "Don't let me be misunderstood"

thanks for the link, Lucy.. i thought it was alright. i don't know why people are being so harsh on "don't let me be misunderstood." i think it's the slow pace that gets to them. i think many older people have heard the animals' version of the song and can't adjust to the new, slow pace. personally, i never heard the animals' version.. and i've come to like the song after listening a few times.

Interesting review. I see it as almost all positive except for "Don't let me be misunderstood". I agree that this is not the albums best song, but not for the same reason the critic gave. I think Yusuf has often been misunderstood over the years and no matter what he has said to try to explain things, explanations have landed on deaf ears. The song is tailor made for him. I just don't like the musical arrangement. I find it morbid and unpleasant to listen to. But, as the reviewer said, there is a cup full of the good searching music he does best.

www.2theadvocate.com/entertainment/4920191.htmlTalk about someone who shouldn't be a music critic. "remake of the Animals' " (not Nina Simone) "Yusuf addresses his political troubles in a strings-backed remake of the Animals’ “Don’t’ Let Me Be Misunderstood.” A logical choice of material, but the performance borders on the ponderous."
Then, does he think that this is a new song? "Yusuf expresses his deliverance in the fully realized “I Think I See the Light,” a song that soars like the Cat Stevens of old."
