hello i wasnt there, first because flying to Neaples from where I live, is more easily for me to fly to London :-) second, because in the last week there were rumors that Yusuf was not going to perform any song - organizers and Yusuf management didnt want any song to be performed at the event why? i dont know so here a story from one of the major national newspapers this morning about the event (sorry for my bad english) "Yusuf arrived yesterday - the day of the event - with his wife and his 17 years old daughter - he wanted to visit the theatre before the event in the afternoon, then retired in his dressing room. there was an incredible tight security around him; he didnt want to be photographed before the event and stay closed in his dressing room with his family, but he asked if he could have some seats in the front row for him and his family so to be in the audience with everyone during the event. he met the organizer and this important rabbi that was invited at the event too. He said he was deeply moved by the religious atmosphere of the entire event (my note: is this the first time that Yusuf take part in an event organized by a catholic group? if so, this is really an historic event: him, the most important muslim today, a rabbi and a catholic movement....). in a separate interview the rabbi said how important is that Yusuf is performing again. The rabbi said he is a big bob dylan fan, and said that bob dylan is a religious person too but he perform anyway, so is great that Yusuf is back performign again. he asked to eat some mozzarella (south italian most famous food) with salad. he asked where the North (?) is, so that he could pray. then at a certain point he said: "TONIGHT I WANT TO SING" he asked that he could have a guitar and, broking the ruels of the event, he performed two songs. The newspaper say he performed The Wind and Maybe there's a World. he is traveling today to Turkey to be part of i dont know which important religious event. all in all, i really cant wait to see him tomorrow night (the broadcasting is suppose to start at 9.30 in the evening, local time) on this newspaper there is a gorgeous photo of him, sitting and playing the guitar, dressed with a white shirt and blue jeans (?), looking good as ever cheers thanks so much for translating it for us, and also for the pic... P.S. where ya been?

well it was incredible great
did i ever say yusuf cant sing? :-)
the reason why he was not suppose to perform at this event, he told it on stage: "I got a flu and a cold from days"
the host insisted: Pleeease
"Ok, I pray somebody over there" pointing with his finger to the sky "will help me"
He performed the wind and maybe there a wordl with a terrific great voice
wow somebody really help him
and to see him on a big tv screen instead of the usual yotube computer screen... it was amazing... he really did some great fingerpicking, the sound from my monitor was terrific and is amazing how his face looks young - i really bet that quit smoking is really good for your skin as they say!
anyway, he came on stage totally shy, he look so small, he got the prize, said some very nice words while his wife was filming him with a camera haha - and hey how nice is his daughter!
in the end, all the artists minus Yusuf came on stage for a wonderful Morning has broken: a opera singer, a black gospel singer, even a senegal singer à la Youssou n'Dour and... Keith Emerson at the keyboards! (Keith was another performing artist at the event)
well, i really hope all these bonanza of videos will appear on a dvd soon
cheers

Thanks Max for detailed account. Great to hear that Keith Emerson of ELP was on keyboards on the Yusuf-less Morning Has Broken. I have to see this!

you welcome
actually, keith emerson was more busy trying to understand how those keyborards were suppose to work instead than play :-)
Dianne Reeves is the black singer that guided everybody into Morning has Broken - reading some newspapers here, seems that she asked Yusuf to perform a duet with her but Yusuf kindly refused

Max, there I was hoping that Keith would be throwing knives at his keyboards like in the old days, never mind!

Hey all!
I just finished watching the Concerto per l'Epifania on RAI International. The show seemed to be leading up to Yusuf's award & performance. He might have a cold, but he sounded great on The Wind & Maybe. It was great seeing Andreas Vollenweider and Keith Emerson as well. I haven't heard from them in years. The show ended with all the previous performers (without Yusuf) singing Morning Has Broken. It was interesting seeing Keith Emerson at the keyboards for the song. Reminds me vaguely of that other 70s keyboard wizard, Rick Wakeman, who played on the original MHB.
