This is a wonderful photo: Thank you Kareema, for so adequately explaining many aspects of Muslim marriage and adab (etiquette). It should be clarified for those who don't know (and many here already do) it was not an arranged marriage. Yusuf was thinking of marrying two girls he was dating and wanted to submit the issue to his mother. Yusuf has said that he regrets not writing a song for his mother before she passed, but I think it was the ultimate respect for Yusuf to ask his mother about his prospective wife. I certainly hope that my son will run the same issue by me. Mothers usually know best. And I think Yusuf is even luckier to have Fauzia than she is to have him She reminds me of my former mother-in-law - when my MIL was much younger of course! One final note, seekers and lovers of God should only marry others who are the same. One must use one's head in these matters as well as their heart. Clearly, Yusuf did both.

I think that photo is from coverage of his Dr. award from Exeter University on July 10. I'll try to find a link to it and post. Update: here is the link to nice photo caption, but strangely no blurb under the title (scroll down) www.thespec.com/Entertainment/article/217928

Yusuf has said that he regrets not writing a song for his mother before she passed, but I think it was the ultimate respect for Yusuf to ask his mother about his prospective wife. Wrote too soon. I just happened to be looking at something else on the majicat.com site and I saw that he said the song "Granny" was a tribute to his mother. So I'm correcting myself! ;D

Fauzia seems to be such a very beautiful person. According to articles I've read (I think on this site), Small Kindness (Yusuf's charity that helps widows and orphans) was Fauzia's idea. She also traveled with Yusuf to Darfur to try to help the poor women and children refugees. She has stood with Yusuf through all the unjustified attacks on his character. I think she is the kind of woman we should be discussing. This is my favorite picture of her. It was taken when she and Yusuf visited the orphans of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

I Absolutely agree Huru, and that what I tried to explain in the discussion with Kareema, even if there are rules in any culture or religion, one must use also heart, and yes I think yusuf did both. Hey he found his hardheaded but loving and soft heart woman ;D. thank you for this beautiful pic. Linda

This is a wonderful photo: Lovely photo. I think Asmaa was the only daughter I'd never, ever seen a picture of .... until now. (I remember Asmaa... ) Cute girl. Lovely wife... adorable grandbaby.... Nice family. (It's nice for Fauzia to have been brought out into "the open" these last couple of years. A lovely person like that ought to be seen and appreciated. )

Good on you Yusuf that you ended up with a beautiful woman and family. You deserved the best. Sounds like she is the hard headed woman you sang about. You needed that!

Thank you for the pics. I thought I saw one of all of his family somewhere, is there one of grandchildren and all of his children together? Also, for anyone who knows, can Muslims adopt orphans? Whether or not they are Muslim children? I wonder if the thought crossed his mind after visiting the tsunami victims. At what age do the women cover their heads? If I go to a resaurant that is Muslim owned, can I wear a scarf? Would it be disrespectful, since I am not Muslim? Thank you for any answers. One thing about me: I am a retired lighting director (for concert tours, etc.) I met him as Cat many years ago, several times. A very quiet, magical man. He was so so heavy and loved to hear him speak. We would compare "yoga notes".
peace.....

On the left you have Aminah the youngest then you have Asmaa the second oldest ,then Yusuf and his wife Fauzia and then Mayhannah that the daugter who was on the airplane when Yusuf was not allowed in America.
