We did a little eJamming session, workahollis and me (I'm also Jacky at eJamming). While the sound was really good, we had some problems with the delay, especially when singing as it is confusing to hear your own voice delayed for some mili-seconds. That's why it was no wonder we got out of the rhythm quite often. For sharing ideas and all that it is perfect, though. It would have been great if we had a video feature, too (though I got no camera yet), so that we can actually see what the other is playing (and where on the fretboard). I have an idea how we could get rid of our own echoed delay. If turn use the PLAYBACK slider in eJamming down, but instead turn on our mic/line-in playback port (where you go into the PC) in the Windows settings, then we should have no delay hearing us, and thus, can play in-tune, and in-sync. We should try that next time, as it was very irritating.

I started a new thread for ejamm. I jammed with a guy earlier and he said to turn the live slider for you to the left that way you only hear the other players and you hear your self live only acoustically not through the phones. Is there a way for video support?

Hey Jacky, I noticed something while working on Alun's part tonight. I have always played the Em and A in the verses like this: (7th fret) Em-X0221X A-2X023X . . . This is the way DJ has it tabbed too But what Alun actually plays though out the song is: (7th fret) Em-X0221X A-2X021X From the Am shape (Em) he simply takes his #2 finger off the 4th string/2nd fret and places it on the C# at the 6th string/2nd fret. I don't know why I haven't heard this before, even in the live HCITY video on YouTube it shows Alun playing it this way. You might play it this way already, but I just thought I'd tell you in case you aren't. I'm sure both you and Kristian have noticed, but there are a few major differences in the way Alun plays his part between the album version and this live performance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsk5MJeV5QcMainly, this part (the first thing he plays in the song) CAPO 7th fret E ------------------------ B --------------0--------- G ---0—-H2--2------0------ D ------------------------ A ------------------------ E ---0—-H2--2------3------
On the album version, Alun opens the song with this (played 2 times before the first verse) and ends the song with this. During the live performance, he plays this though out the entire song. On the album version, in all the verses (at the part after Cat sings "Woah, woah, woah, woah") what Alun plays is: Capo 7th fret E ------------------------- B --------------0---------- G ---0—-H2--2------0------- D --------------------0---- A ------------------------- E ---0—-H2--2---------3----
Here's something else I tried tonight. I threw on the album version of HCITY and played along. Only instead of actually picking the strings, I placed my fingers on the strings without making a sound as Alun played the song. I picked the strings, but the sound came from Alun's guitar. This is a great way to see if you're playing his part - note perfect. Well as far as the videos on YouTube goes, I've got the camera and now I'm just working out how I will present the songs. My first videos will be: "If I Laugh", "How Can I Tell You" For Single Guitar, and "How To Play, 'How Can I Tell You'" (Alun and Andy's parts complete). I'm still trying to get the videos up this week. After I send in the tabs for "HCITY For single Guitar, I'm going to finish "Jzero" for zvon. After I send in his tabs, I'm sending in "HCITY - Andy's Part", and "HCITY Alun's Part". I think there are enough differences between the way DJ and I play the song to send in a new tab on it. Gino

You might play it this way already, but I just thought I'd tell you in case you aren't. I noted this, too, long ago (as Cat isn't playing a pure A either) but then discarded it because I thought that harmony-wise it wouldn't sound much different from Em and thus wouldn't provide a clear enough difference. I was always mixing in both versions - but surely an A7 would be more correct but it doesn't really shine there at the 7th fret. But I think as many variation as possible in a song does serve the song well instead of harming it.

2x023x That's the same chord I use as well. At the 7th fret it's a true A with a C# base alternate. in reality it's a D shape with a F#(shape) alternate base. that way you have it ready when your doing your waling base line. Besides the e string is never played at the 7th fret, so why not save your fingers for what you need to actually play. If you played it without a capo you'd have to switch from A and then find a way for you finger to get to the C# located on the A string. x02220 to x42220 very difficult but not so much if you just bar the second fret and don't play the e string. I tried the A7 or D7(shape) this doesn't sound right to me. I like the major chord with the alternate base. Capo 7th fret
E ------------------------- B --------------0---------- G ---0—-H2--2------0------- D --------------------0---- A ------------------------- E ---0—-H2--2---------3---- this way is the way i think it is played as well Gino. I usually fill those gaps in but I never pay attention really to what I'm doing. If I do that I forget what I'm doing. Good Job.

What I'm shooting for with the single guitar version is that the song over-all sounds like the album recording. There's a lot of freedom there because it's impossible to get it exact on one guitar, so I can pretty much do whatever sounds right. I am trying to use everything I can that was originally played though.
As far as the tab for Alun and Andy's parts, I'm trying for perfection. I've got Alun's part down note for note. That's why getting the A - 2X021X was important to me. I've got a lot of Andy's part figured out, but it's much harder to cut his piece out of the song. The two parts are so intertwined. Andy's part at the verses plays the baseline of E B A C# (sometimes leaving out the C#) on each beat, while Alun plays E (an octive higher) on the 1st beat and C# on the 3rd beat. The C# harmonizes with the A on the 3rd beat played by Andy. So you actually hear the C# on the 3rd and 4th beats. And Kristian, I think what Andy picks on the 4th beat after the A-X02220 is X4X200.
Here's another one for you. Today I realized that Alun just might be playing the first tab I posted above all through the song, and what we are hearing (what Kristian has posted just above this post) could be Andy's part being played over Alun's part that gives the piece a different sound. I'm working on disecting this along with Andy's whole part right now.
Gonna give videoing "HCITY For Single Guitar" and If I Laugh" a shot tomorrow night.

Okay guys, I just sent Christine tabs for "HCITY - For Single Guitar" and "HCITY - Andy Robert's part". I'll be sending "HCITY - Alun Davies Part" on Monday or Tuesday.
Now I understand why Cat is strumming chords when performing the song live. Andy's part compliments Alun's but you'd never play it alone. I took the liberty to fill in some of the chords that can't be heard in the verses. I think I included all of the best stuff from Andy's part in the "HCITY For Single Guitar" tab.

I just sent "HCITY - Alun Davies Part" in to Christine. Kristian has sent some tabs in too so there should be some new tabs up this week.

Hi everyone,
Kristian sent me an email and pointed out that I had switched the numbering of 2 fingers on a "D" chord that repeats through out the song. I've made the correction and sent it to Christine.
It should read like this:
. How can I tell you that I love____________________ . Em(020030) A(X02220) (X4X200) D(XX0232)
E -----------0----------0-----------0----------0--*--------3----2-----0----- B -----3----------3-----------2----------0--------*--3-------------3-----3-- G --------0----------0-----------2----------2-----*-----2--4----2----------- D ------------------------------------------------*--0---------------------- A --------------2-----------0---------4-----------*------------------------- E --0---------------------------------------------*-------------------------
