Hi guys. I have started a Cat Stevens collection of books, CD'S etc. I bought his BBC Concert from 1971. Has anyone seen this?! It's a good concert. There's some parts that made me laugh, like Cat asking Alun Davies to re-tune his guitar several times and singing the wrong words to Bitterblue! Also, does anyone know if that is a beer bottle he has sitting next to his stool?
Thanks

That's a great concert. I love it. As for the bottle, I can't be sure, but it's most likely beer.
Peace,Vivian

Poor Alun He had a hell of a time with his Guitar in this concert. Maybe brand new strings not streched in or just a crappy guitar (not likely) but by geeze he was retuning a lot. Thanks for the copy

Peace,Vivian There are a lot of copies of this Dvd on EBAY and if you don't own one yet, I highly recommend it. Sure, most of the songs can be found individually on youtube, but its not the same. This is a great concert. Cat never sounded or looked better. There are some amazing camera closeups, his voice is in top form and its got some real classics. The chatter between the songs is entertaining too. I pull mine out periodically and always enjoy it!

The chatter in between songs sure is entertaining, especially when Cat forgets the words to BitterBlue.

Yusaf is not making one cent from the ripp off merchants on ebay. Just my 2 cents worth

Yusuf is not making a penny off the swaps either and I am all for purchasing something off of ebay if is something I want. I might add, I am not against the idea of "swapping", I am just not sure what the process is or how its done. Do you trade one item for another? At any rate, I like to own what I play several times. To me the BBC concert is more then worth the price I paid for it on ebay. That said, tell me about the swapping process.

actually it is the better way to go when it comes to boots. No one receives money off of Yusufs sweat.
If you have the bbc 1971.. and want Berkley 1971, you make a copy of your BBC and trade it for the Berkley. No money exchanged. No one is making a profit off a boot.
There are also things called trees and branches, I know they use that system on the Neil Young sites.

To me the BBC concert is more then worth the price I paid for it on ebay. That said, tell me about the swapping process. Hi Starlight The basic system of trading is this. Somebody starts the whole thing by offering up a recording to a group of people. This offer is made with no financial gain expected. The offer is taken up by some one. The offerer sends a copy of the recording and the receiver promises to re offer it to the group. The person that gets a copy of the recording then copies it and sends it on to the next person...and on it goes till everyone is happy. People can also trade between each other. One can send some stuff to someone else who then sends some other stuff to them. As long as everyone feels they are fairly done by then all is good. You will find it is generally a pretty liberal kind of atmosphere and MOST people do the right thing... sometimes people don't, but their name gets passed about pretty quickly so no problem. The only person that looses out on the deal is the person that offers up the first deal, but I am sure karma takes care of them. Cheers Michael

Hi Lady D Yes what I described is a weed. I was trying to keep it nice and simple. Yea trees are a great way of trading. Isn't Van prolific? He just keeps churning it out

Hi michael, I think what you described (one to one trading) is called a "weed".. trees are a little different, they take a little more organization - they go like this: you have an open period where everybody interested in participating signs up with one person who organizes the flow. You can sign up either to just receive (then you are a leaf on the tree, an endpoint!), or else to agree to make copies and send them out to three or four other people, or whatever is needed (then you are a branch of the tree). Usually branches are divided up by region of the world/country, depending on how big the tree is, so everybody doesn't have to be sending overseas mail. Trees take more organization than what you described, but people get their 'product' more quickly too. And with a tree, if somebody doesn't have the capability to make copies to send back out, they can still sign up as a leaf. This info comes from years of Van Morrison trading, the Man still does about 300 concerts a year!!! ;D

Okay, I would like to sign up as a trader as a leaf under a tree organization since I don't have the ability to make copies. I am only interested in Cat tapes or DVDs. How do I make it fair for the person who I receive a copy of a Cat event from, since I don't have the ability to make copies of something I have to send in exchange?

I'd like to join up as well, but I can only copy regular CDS. I don't have the ability to copy DVDS. I also don't know how to send these through the internet. I can only do it through the regular postal service.

Hi Starlight and Vivian
Can either of you access data DVDs on you computer?
If so I can burn you all the Bootlegs I have on one disc plus the BBC concert on a standard DVD Video which will play in your loungeroom dvd player.
Vivian, traditionally this stuff is sent through normal mail.... not the internet. If you can create cds then you can re offer the stuff. It is in MP3 format so you can fit quite a lot onto one disc.
As for the DVD I will also offer that to someone with a DVD burner to get it out there.
Vivian and Starlight, PM me your address so I can post the stuff.
CHeers Michael

How do I make it fair for the person who I receive a copy of a Cat event from, since I don't have the ability to make copies of something I have to send in exchange? Everything has its own way of working out fair. The universe will remain balanced and random. Don't sweat it.

CHeers Michael I don't know what data DVDs are. I didn't grow up in the computer age and haven't taken any classes because I work fulltime. I have owned several computers for the past 10 years, updating them regularly so I might be able to do the data DVD thing if I can figure out how to do it.

This subject is treading on TOU rules, to discuss it further you will have to go private.
I'm not going to close or lock this thread, yet. But hope you adhear to the open forum discussion of the bootleg rule to the TOU.
