yusuf's and family's health maybe in danger in UAE

I have tried private means of conveying this but it looks like sending this to everyone might get the message to yusuf faster as it is already pretty late.

It has just been found out that 1000-2000 *tons* of depleted uranium were released in iraq. About 1/2 of that got released into the air (since about 1/2 of the DU in the weapons burns up on impact). In the united states releasing less than a pound per month into the air caused health risks at up to 25 miles away. Another study mentioned by Dr. Rokke (who was the army Nuclear Health doctor in charge of depleted uranium cleanup during the first gulf war and was basicaly fired for speaking up) said it reached 50 miles. This distance is with only relatively minute amounts released into the air. They released more than 1000 TONS this time. The health effects on the people of iraq and people all over the GULF are very serious and all it would take is breathing the odorless depleted uranium. Dr. Rokke estimaes that given the last gulf war's effects 30% of the people in and around iraq will be seriously affected and many will die. In particular it effects young children and causes birth defects...and causes cancers and kidney problems in adults....and other horrible chronic things. Last I heard Yusuf lives in the UAE . This is no too far from Iraq especially given the evidence of how far people get affected...it is in the gulf, mentioned by Dr. Rokke as being part of the contaminated area where 30% could become DU casualties. In addition it is *downstream* from the two rivers in iraq. Both rivers were near big cities where most of the bombing was concentrated this time and now we know for a fact that unimaginably huge amounts of DU was used. Not only is the air poisoned but the water as well. I think yusuf should at least seek to test the water and air where he is living and to test himself and family to see if they have been affected.

I believe in islam we are taught that the area northeast of mecca will have many tribulations come from it. This looks like one of them. Yusuf might consider moving his family to another country as I believe they are at risk there. Anybody who can leave the area should do so if they can...especially if tests are positive for depleted uranium

At least he should seriously consider taking his family and himself out for a while before the effects are irreversible and god forbid something happens to him or his family.

I don't like to be an alarmist but I have read and studied this for a while. many experts are extremely upset at this isssue and are raising alarms. Recently the british royal society...the leading scientific organization in britain has raised serious concerns about DU and it's effects on soldiers and civilians in iraq. The UN has labeled DU weapons as weapons of mass destruction a while ago now and outlawed them since they kill so many civilians even after they are used. here are some links to back up what I am saying:

the aljazeera interview with Dr. Rokke is most detailed. I usually don't read aljazeeah but this came up in a search and Dr. Rokke is a known expert so you can't deny what he sais.

some culpable parties will try to deny it...but they don't give any facts that can' t be quickly disputed.. ..this is like agent orange all over again ..but radioactive...pentagon denied agent orange caused all the horrors it did for 20 to 30 years.


I will work on finding more links but I am really very busy with my studies. This is so important though.

please try to contact yusuf about this. let him seek to at least do the tests for depleted uranium in his body and the water and air...also his family should get tested. I'm not sure how much people are acting on this in the UAE but everyone should be concerned.

Yet, at the same time I know that he does important work, and constantly puts his life at risk helping those who are unfortunate!! Thank you Anwar for posting this. I had no idea about this. I will also ask my husband about this too since he keeps in close contact with many Arabs. It it more than scary. I don't just fear for Yusuf and his family, thousands of thousands of people could be affected by this.

I'm really more worried about my children who happen to be sitting right next door to Iraq in Jordan. I will be making a trip there in a couple of weeks. I would like to try and verify the info & see just how accurate it is, how bad it is & how much they think it has spread. We haven't heard anything about this from our family overseas. I also watch the news in Arabic & so far have seen nothing on this. What is the source for your information Anwar? I'd like to go read it for myself if you can give me a link.

Whisper, I am hoping that all of our relatives in Jordan are safe. I might have misunderstood it, but I thought that this would affect the places in South Iraq and the Emiretes because of the river flow. But I have a friend whose is from Abu Dhabi so I will have to see what she says. She is leaving for Jordan sometime this week.

I know some people who are living in the area.
if you know someone in the area I would advise them to at least drink filtered water or preferably distilled water and to have an air filter in their house. That's what I am telling my relatives living in the area who have no choice. The the others I am telling to leave the area. Personally I would not want to travel there now until people actually make measurements. The air could be toxic to breathe and the water toxic to drink ..but the pentagon refuses to even make public measurements fearing the truth that their own studies already confirm(that you can see in the rense.com link where the doctor that was in charge of DU cleanup during gulf war one tells what the pentagon studies already show). it's worrying. I wish all your loved ones safety.

Anwar, the US government and all of the other major governments need to inform people about this. The UAE is one of the major business areas in the Middle East. It is full of trade and commerce. Many businessmen travel there quite often.

I don't know how the situation was with agent orange but I think it's the same thing...the governments will not step in because the damage is just too great and would cost too much and be policially embarrasing if they admitted it. Does anyone remember the agent orange situation. I think they just flat out denied it for 20 to 30 years because they did not want to face the consequences.

It's up to normal people to protect themselves from this. the governments don't look like they are stepping in fast enough...recently the British Royal society has indeed given warnings and I think the latest is that the British army has conceded to do some cleanup due to people's outrage even though the US refuses to do it. I think this latest news was from the BBC but it looks like a lot of damage has aready been done and a real cleanup would cost billions

...it cost them a huge amount of money to clean up a DU site next to where I am temporarily living in chino...and still people got sick...I forgot where I put that link....but that was a controlled facility that tried to prevent leakage...and it still took a great effort and cost the guilty company a lot of money. in this bombing no attempt it made to prevent exposure...all those bunker buster bombs all over the place hitting the city and the abrams tanks firing all over the place...the majorty was released into the cities and so the rivers and the stuff travels in the air quite far.(see above)

I think we just need to use our minds a little to see how much the government is denying and keep praying and also taking precautions. if there's anything I learned in school is that our bodies are very vulnerable to poisons...even small amounts of some substance can do great damage.
