It says so much about him that he comes out and speaks so freely about an event that was clearly upsetting to him, the "Moonshadow" performers and his (real) fans. He could have hidden away and just gone about the business of putting on the next three shows. Instead he came out and spoke from the heart. I think his message is balanced with what he could have done differently and saying in his own way, how foolish some were for expecting a Cat Stevens concert.
Makes me love him that much more...

"Here, here!" How I wish I possessed the great ability that you do, Jane, in order to express my thoughts on this entire matter, thoughts, and my opinion, that are so exactly like yours'. As always, I am so grateful that you are a fellow-Majicatter! And, Yusuf, it is this simple: we love you. -Bud

You know, I'm so naive, I actually expected to see a few apologies posted on Yusuf's site this morning from some of the asses who thought nothing of treating Yusuf, the other performers, and the fans so rudely. I hope some of them are feeling very ashamed, not just stupid for leaving and missing the rest of the Yusuf concert, but really ashamed of themselves.

Me too! You said it perfectly Jane! I feel better after reading Yusuf's blog entry. He has a way of "sugar coating" a little tongue lashing. But he is also the great man, we all know, by admitting his mistakes and offering to learn from them! I still hate his family had to witness that! But I guess..."Welcome to show biz..."!

Thank you Majid, for the link I meant to say yesterday, welcome to Majicat! I hope you will be a regular poster here It must have been awful for Yusuf and all of the family, to have been treated with such disrespect by part of the audience, that you would of imagined, as they were there in the first place, to have been fans of Yusuf's work, therefore, would have known just what they were going to be privileged to see!!! My God, how some people can treat him like that, goes against all that we, at Majicat, stand for!!! PEACE!!! They don't even know the word! I will get off my soap box now. Please, let Yusuf, know, we, at Majicat, are with him 100% From now on, his tour will be SO much better, it sure was a horrible first gig for him, but next Monday, I am sure, the audience will show him, just how much he is loved! Things can only get better. I personally, can't wait to be there!

Hello all... This is the first time i'm posting here. I was at the concert yesterday with the family, and it was incredible to see Yusuf on stage looking and sounding so great. The audience reaction was really bizarre but with so much Guinness and Carlsberg flying around the place what can we expect. Yusuf was incredible through out, he was shouted out a plenty to perform every song that the bad mannered individuals threw at him and when he didn't, the response was just blatantly rude. If people actually took a moment to be quiet they would have realised that he was actually singing his CS back catalog (14 out of the 22 songs) - but the Dublin crowd didn't give him a chance. To be fair most of the audience were enjoying the concert and were noticeably disturbed by the rants of a few. In the many times i've seen Yusuf perform i've not experienced what I saw last night but I ended up admiring him a lot more after seeing the way in which he carried himself on stage. He was patient with the crowd even though they had no patience. Yusuf is as true as his music and that is what stood out last night, by the Grace of God. I hope the people who were so rude last night have taken time out to reflect on how they behaved. peace majid Majid you are saying and expressing my thoughts thank you ,yes they have missed alot those stupids

Thanks for the warm welcome As his granddaughter sings "what eva they say, what eva they doooo, i'll always loooove you!" Events like these make us stronger and bring more people together than drive them apart so in a strange way it has only made the tour and the future that much more exciting for everyone involved. peace, majid

To see through a child's eyes, they are so pure and innocent - but speak the truth so plainly ! You are always welcome here Majid. It is an extreme pleasure to "meet" you. And, yes, our respect for Yusuf has grown from this experience. He has so much grace. His musical genius leaves me in awe at times ..... coming from a musical background myself, even more so. Peace be with you Majid - and the entire family Nancy

I've been reading all the reviews and everyone's comments over the past couple of days and something really struck me about all of this (probably because I am in the world of education.) It wasn't until I read the posting on the "modern day Harold" and watched the video attached that my thoughts became clear enough to share here. Yusuf, I hope you read this, you are such an inspiration to so many and I hope you know that: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” William Arthur Ward You continue to teach generations of us and in doing so you are definitely making this world a better place: Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day. Thomas Jefferson Please don't give up on the rest of us just because of an undisciplined few.

First of all, a HUGE welcome to Majid and thank you for his input of Yusuf's performance and audience reactions. After reading some of the responses to the blog, I feel the need to respond. For some reason, I can't seem to post at the red room, even though I logged in. In any case, there will always be a few rotton lemons that spoil the lemon ade so to speak. I became heartsick that at least one concert goer felt she had to leave for safety reasons, even though she was enjoying the show. That is really pathetic , and those individuals should really be ashamed of themselves. If they didn't enjoy the show, why didn't they leave instead of ruining it for everyone else.
Peace,Vivian

Thanks for the warm welcome As his granddaughter sings "what eva they say, what eva they doooo, i'll always loooove you!" Welcome from me too Majid. I love this little girl and her innocent faith. It gives me strength. I think you're right. That's why we're presented with these challenges, tough and distressing as they seem when they confront us. Look forward to hearing from you on the threads. Take care & Peace

Irish Times "Radio presenter Gerry Ryan, who was there, said he had never seen such a “level of hate and bile and viciousness” from an Irish audience. He heard one fan shout at the singer: “play Peace Train, you f***ing b******” . He said he met Yusuf after the show and the singer was “utterly shocked” and his family, who were in the audience, were traumatised by what had happened. “I really felt so incredibly ashamed,” Ryan added." www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/1117/1224258981275.htmlWell, they have to be ashamed (of course, not the majority... but we are always ashamed when, for example, our neigbour do something which is not right, so I can understand Ryan) YUSUF, yours true & thousands of "normal" fans are with you, with your art & music, glad & happy that you are not "mechanical traveling jukebox" I've just listened to Gerry Ryan's radio show and I am absolutely shocked It sounds horrific and the level of discontent seems completely out of proportion. It must have been incredibly upsetting for the actors on stage, Yusuf, his family and other members of the audience who had also paid for their tickets and did want to watch. "Play Peace Train or I'll beat the crap outta ya" its unbelivable and makes you wonder if these were really 'fans' at all and as for not playing his new songs, I want to hear him play his new songs, why not? surely all artists play their most recent albums at a concert. Yusuf may have made a mistake by allowing the preview of Moonshadow to run for too long but he and the cast really didn't deserve such abuse

Slightly off topic by now -
many of you will have read above of the Yusuf interview pre Dublin concert, and commentary post concert from the Gerry Ryan radio show in Ireland; some of you will have listened via the internet to the show.
It is a very sad day to report that this icon of irish radio passed away highly unexpectedly last friday, April 30th. He didn't show up for work on the program and they found him, deceased, at home. Aged 53, Gerry Ryan RIP, we will miss your radio waves.
Gavin

Very sad R.I.P. Gerry Gerry was absolutely horrified and disgusted at how some of the audience behaved at Yusuf's Dublin concert and he was very vocal about it. He will be sadly missed in Ireland.

Sad news, indeed... so sorry to learn of Gerry Ryan's passing.
Gerry's reach in popularity was quite impressive, as the news of his death resulted in his name being one of the busiest 'look-ups' on Yahoo.com yesterday.
Rest in peace, Gerry.
-Bud
P.S. -- It recently flashed that the actress Lynn Redgrave has also passed away.
