Wow! What a beautiful picture of Yusuf! Do you think he is a bit nervous about the upcoming concert? I wish him all the best! I don't know how that man keeps his energy level up so high to be so busy! I'm exhausted just reading about his events! LOL! Faithfullight

Lately I am having a time keeping up with my appointments in my job search. How does Yusuf keep up with it all. Vivian, he looks so young. It is hard to believe that man is 55. Love, Katie

Nobody's gonna say anything about the pants? Anybody?
OK, I'll say something about the pants. Velvet: yowza! He's always been a snazzy dresser. That is an amazing photo though and I'm sure he's really excited about performing again in a larger venue.

I have a pair of sweat pants similar to his and I've seen them allover the stores! Only I hope his don't say "Juicy" across the behind. I also like the way they look with the shirt, very classy! OK enough about the man's outfit... apologies for dumbing down the thread. - Lissette Hey, I noticed those pants, I just wasn't gonna say anything!! LOL! I'm no fashion maven, but I have read recently that velvet is in style now for everyday wear, not just dress-up....... ;D ;D ;D alright you guys, now you all know what to wear to the concert next week! ps. is that also red velvet on the hand rail he's resting against? very plush!

I'm going to have to go with Lucy on this one; they look more like corduroy to me, too.
He does indeed look youthful, especially in the rehearsal photo with the kids, no?

Isn't anyone going to say anything about the Sunday Review Cover picture? I love that picture of Cat Stevens. I know that we've seen that picture before, but I only saw little 1" pictures of it. This one is a much larger picture. Yusuf looks so busy with the children and the children are in matching uniforms. They look very neat and cute. Faithfullight

So I am to conclude from the cover pic that Cat Stevens was already contemplating starting Islamia Schools in 71? He really thinks ahead.
I laughed so hard when I saw that cover pic with the "OOOH, OOOH BABY!" Sex sells.

Me too, Turan and so did my friend. I find it funny that they chose that Cat picture out of the millions that exist to advertise an article that talks about his school's fundraiser. I would've picked the velvet/corduroy pants one, personally (not that I'm complaining about their present choice). And the "Oooh, baby baby" blurb is interesting. But whatever, I sound like a prude. It's not like they have the handstand pic or anything! - Lissette So I am to conclude from the cover pic that Cat Stevens was already contemplating starting Islamia Schools in 71? It is like no one will bother to notice unless first we get hit over the head by sexy young Cat Stevens. I like the picture and I found its choice apsolutily hilarious. They could have chosen a picture with Cat Stevens cutting a cake with a bunch of kids, or Cat Stevens in any of many pictures not displaying his crotch in very tight pants as advertizing for an article on Islamia Schools. Nope, I am no prude. Turan

Awww, Turan! My attention was drawn toward his face! I like his expression on his face. Very sweet! Most people remember him how he looked in the 70's when he was Cat. For publicity's sake, many people wouldn't connect Yusuf Islam with Cat Stevens unless they saw his picture.

Isn't there a picture of young Cat cutting a birthday cake with a bunch of kids? I think I've seen it on this website. I agree with Faithfullight on how using young Yusuf on the cover would attract more sales since it would be more distinguishable. I love the picture myself, it's just funny seeing it blown up so big! I have an old issue of... I can't remember what magazine... and there's a picture of Cat from that same photoshoot on the cover. - Lissette If they used the handstand pic they would sell even more. Beautiful pictures! How good he looks in the photos taken at Royal Albert Hall and at the choir rehearsal with the children! BTW I tend more towards the velvet theory ... The material looks so much softer than corduroy, and the reflections of light on it seem to show that it's all smooth. And hasn't he always loved clothes from cosy materials like velour shirts and velvet pants?! He wears blue velvet pants in his "Disco" appearance too. Love, Sanna

They'd have to come to me for the yoga pic. (Actually I got it from Harry Schmieder's site, in all fairness...) I can't imagine velvet pants being comfortable. Corduroy's nice, though -- I still say it's corduroy. It cracks me up that you blew up the pic to check out the material type, lissette. And then you still call it "velvet/corduroy", .... like you can't quite give up the original fantasy.... I'm just teasing!!!! ;D

OK, Lissette, so you didn't blow up the pic - my mistake --- I reread your post. You RELOADED it.
Uh-oh, Sanna. Now you've blown my confidence in my contention that it's corduroy.
Maybe it's velvet after all. Not that I prefer velvet. I still prefer corduroy. I always hated velour too.
Lissette??!!!!!

You know photos of Cat Stevens are almost caricatures. They remind me of his paintings. They are very deliberate pictures. This particular one is a pose that means one thing... come cuddle in my lap, etc. Excellent choice for hooking people to read an article where Yusuf talks about life as Cat Stevens, not so good for talking about schooling children. Sure use Cat Stevens as a hook to get people to read the article. My choice would be Cat with the yoyo but there are myriad others.
Now, of course, there is only a reaction. Mine is to roll with laughter at the mixed message.
cheers, Turan
