And Caly Simon had us believing all this time it was one of the infamous trio. ;D I wonder if they are dissapointed, or relieved, or maybe they knew the secret all along. Anyway, it was a good guessing game all these years. The case now rests.

so now we know I guess I'm a little disappointed. I always thought Cat was worth writing a song about...he wrote one for her. ( Sweet Scarlet)

Oh, say it ain't so! With all due respect to Mr. Geffen, I, too, always thought that the mystery man was going to come from among the quartet of Cat, Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, and Warren Beatty, with my guess being that it would turn out to be Warren. "... she solved the riddle by whispering David's name BACKWARDS in a reworked version of the 1972 song for her new album "Never Been Gone", out next week..." "Divad"? Carly, it really does turn out to be "Divad"? Well, the silver lining in this is that Carly is coming out with a new album. Wouldn't it be great if she included another Cat cover? ;D That reworked version of "You're So Vain" might prove to be a real hoot, as well. -Bud

Seriously, though, is listening to a song backwards really a credible source. Is "THE SUN" really a credible source?? I thought it ranks up there with the NATIONAL ENQUIRER and the likes!

We might just hear it in Carly's own words in the next hour on Steve Wright's BBC Radio 2 show... or on the replay

"Anticipation", indeed! Makes one wonder what will prove to be thicker: this plot or the ketchup in a Heinz bottle. -Bud

Carly was also on the one show last night. A bit embarassing as the format is very light/trite and fast moving - poor Carly took awhile to answer and got rattled with the presenter... it should be repeated soon... gossip! : www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theoneshow/2010/03/what-did-you-think-of-the-one-65.shtmlAlways good to see live tv... quite funny seeing Giles Brandreth trying to smooth things over with Carly!

Boy, she still is a knock out!!!! Her voice is as good as ever, just a little more mellow. So she is in London. Hmmmm That could mean many things. Sorry just my imagination. ;D But it would be great if they did a duet someday. The presenter here was at least more polite than the other BBC show, and avoided going any deeper about the famous question about who the mystery man is. Her son just towers over everyone, and Carly Simon is VERY tall.

It was embarrassing Jill... Carly said "You keep cutting me off" to the presenter... it was all very patronising. Yusuf handled it really well when he was on the show. You were spared the cringe-worthy Giles Brandreth. Carly looked well in spite of all the speculation about surgery on the web page. A true survivor and You're So Vain is such a great song... she was obviously proud of it.

Thanks for writing this ..... because as I read the comments on that web site - I couldn't understand why everyone seemed to be ripping this woman to shreds? Carly has always had a very "unique" look .... very sculptured features - and those teeth that when she smiled - you couldn't help but see !! It added, I always thought, to her true beauty. An she is not 26 years old anymore Excellent interview here - gives a very good insite into what her personal life was like ..... very in depth - and brutally honest on Carly's part : www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/7347123/Carly-Simon-interview.htmlPS: I don't think I'd want to watch that television show xoxo Nancy

Whew, so our Tac (err, Cat) is still in the running! Thank you very much for the scoop, LadyD, and thanks to you, as well, Daddy-o, Helen, and Nancy, for all of the great links to the stories and the videos that you provided. For what's it's worth, my bet is still on Warren Beatty (in the meanwhile, I suppose Carly will continue with her practice of revealing the true subject's name letter-by-letter for charity, which is always a good thing). -Bud

From the article: She sounds like a hopeless romantic.
"I am. As a child I used to read Gone with the Wind over and over again. I wanted to be Scarlett O’Hara."I thought this was an interesting part of the article, considering the song Cat wrote for her. I wonder if he knew this and purposely incorported scarlet into the song so she would know it was for her? Or maybe not

I used to think that the line "You gave away the things you loved, and one of them was me" was a reference to Yusuf's conversion to Islam- but of course this song was released in the early 70s- well and truly before that happened in 1978. However, Cat did become very reclusive after Catchbull, especially when he was living in Rio, so perhaps it's a reference to that. What do you think?

I don't know - I get the impression from Sweet Scarlet that Cat had his heart broken by her. I always thought she left him for James Taylor. And that reference to "she cut loose a life that she never really wanted" could mean so many things. Definitely get the feeling she dropped him - does anyone know for sure?

Sue(Bookworm) sent this article to me via email.. very nice article on Carly. Vanity CaseSnippit: However, she is very generous and gracious about all the "philanderers" she's been involved with. She describes Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), which the exquisite "Anticipation" is about, as having "great wisdom" and "his soul is really much more connected to his consciousness than most people I know, but it comes out in a gentle, ethereal, spiritual way. His wisdom goes beyond age".
I tell her a lot of her early songs feel wise like this too and she counters, "That's because I tried to imitate Cat Stevens."
