This is a pure coincidence. I have this photo of Yusuf taken some where in Dubai While I was on my British Airways flight to Los Angeles this summer I saw this in their magazine. its a restaurant in Dubai. Then watching TV the other evening about rock in London in the 70's. I saw this picture, which rang a bell for me. I know the place was in Notting Hill, round the corner to Portobello Road. London.I was never sure if it was a flat? This is the back cover from Cat Album "The view from the top" I think it is defiantly a flat. Next time I go to Portobello Road market I shall go and see if the property is still there. . This one is from Getty images.

Helen you have a very good eye. ;D Yes, I definetly see a connection with past and present photos. Well Helen, when in Dubai, you certainly know where to go and have something to eat. Never know who you might bump into. ;D

That is FABULOUS!! Too bad you didn't have your picture taken going up the steps - we could have put them together as though he was waiting for you to arrive...

Thank you so much for sharing these fantastic pictures, Helen. I agree with Vicki - you have a very good eye. I find the overall effect to be strangely haunting. The places feel sad and empty without the presence of Yusuf.

I AM 99% THAT LINDA LEWIS LIVED HERE This reminded me of the "Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard" video. One of the comments under the video says that Cat Stevens is singing with Elkie Brooks. But the chalk on the sidewalk says, "Steve Loves Linda." Is there any connection to Linda Lewis, or is it just a coincidence?

Probably. Cat & Linda were, well, "close." At least according to Linda. And I'm pretty sure I remember reading it was Linda singing with him on that track.

Well Jane, I think we should persuade our MAJICAT detective, (Helen ;D) to go back to the scene, get back up the stairs, and pose again, this time looking up. Then you can take over with your majic computer skills as you suggested. ;D Maybe you can even print Helens name in place of Lindas. ;D I think Helen would greatly appreciate this in a frame on her desk. ;D

I don't think Linda sings on that track with him but I recall reading somewhere (maybe in the excerpt from her biography that was linked here?) that he wrote that song about her.

Linda Lewis was Cat's supporting act in one of Cat's concerts that I attended. And if I remember they did sing "Remember the days of the old school yard" together. That stairwell is just off Portobello Road, so its not hard to find. It was weird standing there where Cat once stood.

Interesting rare documentary on Linda Lewis and the graffiti daubed Basing Street flat featured here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I82HVr8BxtkThat wall could've done with a nice Banksy piece! :-) With compliments George
