Yusuf made a surprise appearance this morning at Jon Stewart & Steven Colbert's rally in Wash DC!
He came out and sang a few bars of Peace Train, then out came Ozzie Osbourne singing some song of his (not sure what it was) in stark contrast to Yusuf.
I'm sure it's up on youtube. Did anyone go to the rally? Did anyone watch it live? I was so shocked to see him! He came out at the end, singing along with all the artists and Marva Staples, singing I'll Take You There.
So, Yusuf's in Washington DC today ..... for some reason. Is he appearing anywhere else? Does anyone know?
It was pretty darn cool!

Yusuf and Ozzy - not the first combination you ever think of!! Thank you so much for posting this, everyone. I really hope there will be some news about a new tour soon - it definitely looks as though he's not tired of performing yet! Jo

The video is not avail' in UK But it's on youtube, here are a few pics too (Sorry if these have already been posted) Billboard link Cable television's talking heads were the primary targets of Saturday's Rally to Restore Sanity, which drew tens of thousands of people to Washington, D.C. From video montages of news programs' doomsday prophecies to introducing citizens who remained "rational" under pressure, hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert repeatedly went after the media's extremist positions. Stewart said, "We live now in hard times, not end times." He continued, "The country's 24-hour [news cycle] did not cause our problems but its existence makes solving them that much harder. If we amplify everything, we hear nothing." Stewart said, "We live now in hard times, not end times." He continued, "The country's 24-hour [news cycle] did not cause our problems but its existence makes solving them that much harder. If we amplify everything, we hear nothing." The rally's themes of unity, comedy and tolerance were reinforced with a slew of musical guests like Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens), Kid Rock and John Legend. Video: Yusuf Islam & Ozzy Osbourne at the Rally to Restore Sanity Backed by the Roots' house band, Islam sang his 1971 hit "Peace Train" but was interrupted by Colbert, who introduced Ozzy Osbourne. The rocker launched into "Crazy Train," and went back-and-forth with Islam until they were both sent off stage by the O'Jays and "Love Train." The proceedings began with introductions from Stewart and Colbert, followed by a benediction by Don Novello as his "Saturday Night Live" character Father Guido Sarducci, who when comparing Muslims and Jews said, "They don't eat pork, you don't eat pork, let's build on that." Billed as "the most reasonable seeming man in America," "Law & Order" star Sam Waterston read a tongue-in-cheek poem credited to Colbert that included lines like "Did you hear that? No? You're probably going deaf. It's your kids back home cooking up crystal meth." The rally's themes of unity, comedy and tolerance were reinforced with a slew of musical guests like Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens), Kid Rock and John Legend.

I think he did a pretty good job of showing that one can be a Muslim AND have a sense of humor...

Great find Gabi...what a cute picture! Anybody think that maybe Yusuf "slipped" over here to do this show in an effort to "test the waters" for a US tour? Looks like he's still being haunted by "ghosts of the past". People want to love him, but are torn....how sad, yet understandable. I hope by the reception he got he knows he is welcomed by the majority! I still wonder why he didn't at least tell Majicatters he was going to be here? That little sneak.. ;D ;D It did look like he had a blast! One thing's for sure...in the states, we know how to throw a party!!

That is such bull. Not your answer -- LOL -- the airport thing. I've heard that so many times since Sat--how did he get here, thought he was on the no-fly list. Someone said he couldn't come over when Bush was pres but Obama let him in. Sheesh. By his own words, I forget where, he's come over several times since the 2004 incident. Right?
These are probably the same people who think he sang "Cat's in the Cradle."
Misinformation steams me.
I still think it'd be nice to hear more from him on a few issues, though, to put them to bed once and for all. Hm.

It is amazing peacock how those who are misinformed will reach conclusions and base opinions with little evidence or knowledge. Sometimes it is a no-win situation to try to get across to everyone what the facts or truth truly is. Nature of people I guess, however, one should never stop trying to set records straight.

Ozzy and Yusuf together. Who would have thought or predicted? Not even those, and we desperately need them in this world, who are dreamers. Let's continue to "dream on"....that a North American Tour is in the making.

There were a couple of nice mentions of Yusuf and of his performance at the "Sanity/Fear" rally by host Chris Matthews on the U.S. TV political issues/talk program "Hardball" last night. From the show's official transcript, here is how Matthews signed off last evening: "I had nothing to do with it yesterday but to show up with the other 200,000 people out there, but I say it was great. Stewart and Colbert, and Cat Stevens, and John Legend, and Tony Bennett, and Sam Waterston, and Father Guido Sarducci were all great." I loved the mention, my only qualm being that Chris shoud have referred to Yusuf by his rightful name (but, hey, we'll take it, we'll take it). -Bud

Let's continue to "dream on"....that a North American Tour is in the making. George I heartily agree on both counts, George! Yusuf & Ozzie: Wow, what a parlay! Has anyone mentioned the notion of a future 'sitcom' or 'reality program'? No? Well I suppose our Yusuf is much too classy for that. But a joint concert appearance? Yes, that I can imagine (and would pay dearly to see)! I thought that Yusuf was simply superb and, like everyone else, I watched in amazement at his teaming with Ozzie. ;D -Bud

I also hope he comes on tour here in the US. But I worry for his safety, unless he opens up a bit more about his political and religious views, given the number of people who think he supports terrorism, censorship, murder, and the subjugation of women. Sorry to bring up these things, but that's the way it is.

He has been in the US several times in the past couple of years and every time it has been without incident. The people that are uninformed about him are people who are not fans. If I was not a fan I might be misinformed, too. I honestly don't think he has anything to wory about.
