I don't mind contributing to just have the majicat name on the tile -- not all majicatters *can* contribute due to financial concerns, or want to for other reasons - doesn't bother me at all.

I don't know what this means: "a uniformed format for aesthetic purposes"... but I like "Friends of Majicat.com" and if possible the first names. Maybe you could ask what "uniform" implies so that we have an idea of how this is supposed to look? Can he show us a few tiles that have already been etched? I like Sun's last one the best too - but I am not sure how Yusuf would feel about having his face on a tile at the Center - it might be too much attention on him? Just a thought - not that I don't love the way it looks - it's beautiful. I think Jane already emailed the Maqam people, but this is a good suggestion, and maybe we can ask in the next email(?). And I also wonder if Yusuf would mind his face engraved in stone. So, we need to try other ideas for logos as well. I'm busy today, but I'll start looking for guitars, peace signs, and so on, and any majicatter (on our list or not) is invited to please post suggestions for logos. They have to be non-copyrighted, public domain type images, or your own personal ones that you're willing to donate. Maybe Christine has some images owned by majicat? Maybe we can get something from Yoriyos (e.g., front of peace van). Didn't someone here once communicate with him via facebook and actually get a response? Looking forward to some good suggestions. Peace, ~Sun~ yes I rememer jane saying there were 11 names ..I think our first names and then Majicat est 1999 no need for website .. just our first names and majicat est 1999 will get people to google if they want .. I do know that he loved the dove .. maybe a dove in the middle which is such a peaceful and fullness of spirit bird . and it will be so tranquil xoox

My personal opinion is that the tile will look strange with 11+ names on it ...I would rather the tile be pretty, and proudly represent this wonderful place we have grown to love. I'd rather give up my name for aesthetics....I guess we will have to narrow down the choices and have a vote. I hope the number of voters stays odd at 11! Too bad we cant see some of the other tiles...it might help with the decision.

well it was brought to my attention that some of the majicatters didnt contribute because they didnt want to be a part of it .. so we have that to think of as well respectfully I suppose..and the generality of Majicat name.. I think that the tile is large enough and the font /script can be very small to include the names like a headstone .well lets see what happens with Janes submissions xxoxoxoxxo I cant wait to see the opening and share in the centre .

In that case, I wonder if there are members here who feel so strongly about not contributing that to have Majicat.com on the tile would offend them as members of the site? I hope not. Wouldn't that open a can of worms.

I think the dove is a very lovely idea. We have to wait to hear from the Maqam Centre to know if the engravers can engrave all the names. If they can, then we'll vote to decide if the majority of us want all the names. If the engravers can't engrave all the names, then even if the majority of us want all the names, it won't matter, and we'll have to stick with majicat or majicat.com. We'll have no choice. Hopefully, the engravers will also let us know if we can choose the font, which is doubtful, since they want uniformity, so I expect that they will use the same font of their choice on all the tiles. So, for now, I think we have to wait to hear from the engravers. Peace, ~Sun~

Very Nice, Sun. Except "Majicat" is spelled wrong and I think it should be Majicat.com to specify what sort of a group it is. Great work! I really love the idea of the dove in the middle. Thanks for your hard work.

Wouldn't that open a can of worms. I'll squelch any speculation on this one: Majicat.com belongs to Christine and she proudly gives us her blessing to use it on the tile. Without her express permission to use it, I would not have felt comfortable doing so.

I do love it !!!! ooxoxoxox Blessings and have a beautiful day everyone xxoxo I'm glad you like it, Christina. Thank you for your suggestions for arranging the names. In this mock-up, they're alphabetical, but if we hear from the engravers that all the names are allowed, we can make a final mock-up with the names rearranged if most people would like that. I still want to make more mock-ups with the different logos that others have suggested (peace van, peace sign, guitar), so we can consider alternatives and have a vote. But I think it's best to wait to hear from the engravers. It's my understanding that Jane has asked for "parameters or an example for us to use as a guide." (Thank you, Jane!) So, after receiving a response, we should know how many names, what font, and where the logo can be placed on the tile. Then we can make our final decisions based on mock-ups that conform to their parameters. While waiting, we can be searching for or creating alternative logos to experiment with. Peace, ~Sun~

Thanks for your hard work. LOL - thank you, Pamela. Totally didn't notice the misspelling. That's why we need to work together on this. Of course, this is just a mock-up, but imagine a spelling mistake on the final version. YIKES! Oh, yes, the idea for the dove in the middle is Christina's, and I think it's wonderful. When we get the engraving parameters, we may be told where to put the logo (that "uniformity" thing), but I hope not. Have to wait and see... I also prefer majicat.com to majicat alone, because I want our tile to direct the Maqam Centre visitors to majicat.com. When we get the engraver's parameters, God-willing, I can make mock-ups with both versions and then we can have a vote to make a final decision on majicat vs. majicat.com.

I love it - I wasnt being awkward but there are so many Majicatters on here and Im sure most people could manage a pound a dollar a euro or whatever their coinage might be for this special way of showing our feelings for Majicat and Yusuf

I do love the dove, it looks beautiful Sun - and it is very appropriate for the Centre. However, I would prefer that the tile be more representative of the Majicat site. Again - I am not the one making the effort here - Sun is doing the hard work, and I will go with the majority (happily). But just adding my two cents... y'all can just tell me to shut up if you want I will go with the f-l-o-w

No problem, Andrea.
This is the time and place to express opinions, before final decisions are made.
God-willing, after we get the parameters from the engravers, we'll make several different mock-ups according to their conditions, and then decide together on the final choice.
I must say, though, that the dove does seem to be well-liked.

Yes - it is well liked. I would be perfectly happy with the Dove - it looks beautiful. I've got nothing against peaceful doves. Besides, my lame attempt elicited nothing but mirth from you Sun (mind you, I have no problem providing you with a good laugh ;D )

It has that wonderful childlike essence to it that Christina often talks about, and it's really quite special, Andrea.

[...]While waiting, we can be searching for or creating alternative logos to experiment with.[...] Well... even if I'm not involved with money, I want to offer my suggestion here: What about a CAT? The firecat (only the cat) of the TATF-album would be nice for example Apart from that I also like very much suncatcher's concept with the dove

Yes, everyone is invited and encouraged to make suggestions. And the cat is a great idea, too. Maji cat, Cat Stevens - it certainly fits. Oh, and as much as I'd like to take credit, the concept with the dove is Christina's idea, and it is quite popular. Peace, ~Sun~

We must be patient ... I do believe the Dove is such a beautiful loving unified symbol ... with the olive branch too.. just beautiful in bulding the bridges .. probably the font will be smaller to encompass the names and then Friends of Majicat .. If u dont mind me saying the ".com" is a bit cold... I think .. when people see friends of majicat they will google it and its less an advertisement and flows more like the love that it is .. there will be a buzzzz going on instead of advertising .. I always google things and most people do that are intrigued with names and such.... xoxoo Ok ... xooxooxoxoxo just a thought .. xo keeeping the vision soft loving and tranquil xoxo

Hi friends, after some sad and silent days of grieving for my mother, who died just 11 days after her 89th birthday I'm back to work and of course back to the board.
Incredible a big tile for us!!
I love the concept with the dove and would love to see my name on it. And like Christina I'd prefer "Friends of Majicat" without .com
Thanks to Jane for the idea and the effort to coordinate this action. You'll get the € in Hamburg :-)

You'll get the € in Hamburg :-) Hi, Gabi, Welcome back, and thank you for letting us know your thoughts. I'm glad you like the concept with the Dove. It seems that most of us like it as well. When we get the parameters from the engravers, we'll do final mock-ups and everyone can make the final decision then. Your name is on the current mock-up, of course, so now we just have to wait to hear from the engravers about how many names/characters are allowed to see if we can keep all the names. I'm not sure how the numbers come out for majicat vs. majicat.com, but we'll have a vote before finalizing our choice and the majority will rule. I used to prefer majicat.com, but I'm not sure anymore! So, for now, we can all keep offering our insights and keep thinking about it. Peace, ~Sun~
