established 1999 If the text with "Established 1999" is finally chosen, we can shorten it if most of us would like to. I cant find the suggestions  ? How many characters are there to a line this is most important in decision making factor .... I cant always email but I think Jane might be able to find the answer if she doesnt mind .. xo thanks ahead of time .. |

Christina, I gathered everyone's suggestions from the entire thread, beginning to end, and then did my best to represent those suggestions. Took a while. The number of characters is unknown to us so far. But I think the only line of text that may be too long is the line with initials. If it's chosen as the final choice and we then find that we have too many characters, we may have to modify it in some way, or vote once again. But, the number of characters in the line of initials doesn't seem too long, and I hope that there's no problem. We could have waited to hear from the Maqam people, but it takes so long for them to reply, and I thought it was better to get started on our decisions... Peace, ~Sun~ |

 Thank you, Sabina. Can tell it's written with a Saudi audience in mind (and probably by a Saudi). I'm glad they at least mentioned that the Maqam Centre is ecumenical: "Yusuf Islam said that the center would be educational as well as cultural providing an ecumenical environment for creative expression, where scholars and artists from around the world could meet, work, and interact." P.S. I think they spelled Yusuf's son's name wrong: It's Muhammad, not Mohammed.

Just some thoughts/questions:
If we get a clear majority (i.e., six out of the eleven votes), then we can consider that issue to be "decided," right?
However, if we don't have a clear majority, we need to wait for everyone to vote. But how long do you think we should wait? If we don't hear from everyone by tomorrow, we can send a PM to the ones who haven't voted. Is it reasonable to wait, say, three days before moving on without someone who hasn't voted? Or is a week more fair? After the waiting period, I think we'll have to proceed without anyone who hasn't voted and just count the votes we have.
Also, if we have ties, we'll have more rounds of voting to break the ties.

We already have an option to include initials, so people can vote for that one if that is their preference. I personally don't care for the initials, but you should vote for that option if you do.
If you want to email them, I got the address on the Maqam Centre website.

I do have a question, shouldn't the tile say "From the Friends ..."? Otherwise, doesn't it seem like the tile is celebrating Majicat rather than honoring the center? Just a question. |

Waiting for Meg to vote for the text and ilovemycat (Andrea) to vote for the LOGO and the text.Looks like the dove will win for the logo. For the text, we have to wait for all the votes - there's no clear winner. We also have elad's question to consider: I do have a question, shouldn't the tile say "From the Friends ..."? Im so confused .. we dont even have all the information and everyone wants to send a vote... either way .. we need proper information .. dont you think n before submitting what we want ? I also have questions about the style and size of the font, whether the font is chosen by the engraver or we choose it ourselves, if the logo has a predetermined position on the tile or we can put it wherever we'd like, the size, resolution, and format the engraver requires for the logo, and how we should submit it to the engraver. So, I'd like to suggest that we pause and take time to collect and organize our questions for the engravers and then give them all to Jane to submit at one time to Mr. Habashi. If they send us the information we request, I can make new mock-ups according to what they say. This time we'll know that the logo is definitely the dove. And then we can see how the different choices of text look with the dove and then vote for the final text. Any thoughts? Should we take the time to try to get all these questions cleared up first? I shall go with the flow on it all I'm glad so many like the Dove its signifies unity and I know Yusuf will love it altho the photo of him in trandscension of Cat mode is nice too. I'm beginning to like 1text then 7 text and yesit would be nice to know about the fonts.

I like the idea of the dove, but it reminds me of a funeral for some reason (not trying to sway votes or anything) ;D I also like the van and Teaser but I think they will lose a lot in the translation from color to black etching. |
