I dont want to get this thread tooo far in a tizzy but I will leave something here to correct Yusuf... on the 3rd video .. Priest were always allowed to marry they were no different than anyone else .. Gregory St. Gregory changed all that by creating a Gregorian Calendar where we all celebrate things so differently now for there are 2 calendars now .. and He made priests to no longer be allowed to marry inthe Catholic churches .. for prior to that they could.. the Eastern Christian faith (greekorthodoxy) they can marry that was the first true christian faith and in 1054 the schism happened and catholicism was created and priests in time were no longer able to marry ... just a fact... in history ... ok Im off this topic!!!! eeeeek~ on a visual note... I like the Yusufs hair inthese vids....

Interesting potential for debate. ;D S'OK I know pm only.....

Just one reason I attend an Episcopal (Anglican) church. Our pastors are family guys.
I love discussing religion -- I am very accepting, love learning about different religions. But just as with politics, what I will argue about are facts. Believe what you will, but get the facts straight. If you have all the information and still choose something different than what I choose, then that's just fine and you've got my total respect. In fact maybe I need to get some facts straight myself. Lord knows I try, but it's so complicated.

I think the fundemental error Yusuf makes in that comment is the assumption that to be a good Christian you have got to be a priest. There are many other and equal vocations for Christians. I think this assumption echoes with his need to always reach the 'pinnacle'in all he does. I don't think being a priest is the pinnacle for a Chrisitian.

I believe we all have a ministry of sorts... at the end of the day we assess it and hopefully it was a generously loving day ... for others and well as for us ..open to receiving and open to giving ... thats how I perceive it ... dont want to overstep on this thread

Yes -- one of the Christian tenets is "the last shall be first." I do keep shaking my head at this man - I love him to bits, but he's always going to struggle with humility, isn't he? LOL

BTW -- is it okay to discuss religion as long as we try very hard to keep away from a "my team's better than your team" angle? Thanks.

Maybe after last week we should just stay away from the subject and not even ask Christine to have to make that decision. I think she deserves a break.

Lord knows I try, but it's so complicated. A very wise Majicatter has called me out on the above statement, pointing out that it doesn't really say what she hoped I meant, so in the interest of kindness and peacemaking I wanted to clarify a little bit. She pointed out that I claim to be accepting, but then I set limits on how I think people should come by their faith, and I want to apologize for that. There's certainly room for blind faith in the world, and if you're looking for absolute proof of anything in the spiritual realm you're probably not going to find it. All I meant, really, was that I hate the spread of misinformation. And I think that people often have mistaken beliefs about this group or that group - whether it's religious, ethnic, or political. What's true for some may not be true for all. What's practiced may not be the official doctrine. And I will leave it there!

Thanks for the clarification, peacock. No need to apologize, though. I think we all need to clarify what we mean from time to time. I can't tell you how long a draft of a work email sits open before I send it. My words always sound perfect in MY head because they were meant to go together, but those same words can sound downright strange to someone else. It's just the way the written word works and why some people make big money as editors!
