That's a lot cheaper than getting it from Oz but would the book be in German, do you think?
Thanks, Chris

Unfortunately they didn't post a description at amazon.de yet. But I'm pretty sure the book will be in English. Last week the sales ranking was >69,000, then 24,000, today it's 7,209 !! It's strange that it's so expensive in OZ, normally it's cheaper over there ...

It's a good thing I can laugh at myself because I didn't even consider that the book might be in German! The pictures will be in English, though, right? When amazon.de posts a description I guess I'll see what I ordered and cancel if necessary. I hope Gabi is correct...

Hi everyone! Long time I know and sorry but it will be a long time again after this! Will try and keep as brief as possible - bad health is a permanent dictator in my life and doesn't allow me out to play for long! So, first up! Sorry for not thanking people for such moving and loving birthday wishes over a year or more ago - I ONLY got to read them recently and didn't realise they were even there! So beautiful to read and I feel so bad that I didn't get back here to give my warmest thanks! You are all so beautiful... Congratulations Chris and Jane and good luck with all the joy vs stress of the top job here at Majicat! The Cat Collection really is an unnecessary addition to the abundant additions that have gone before. Just more money making and pretty wrapping for most fans. Just my thoughts out loud. If the remastering meant something spectacular I could understand, but there's little to tweak unless you have a format that can accommodate the need of the original master recording. The good news is - it does exist, the bad news is that it's not getting put to use in this box-set. I'm disappointed that no-one here at majicat has noticed the wonderful work that has gone on with QRP over at Analogue Records - they're a brand new pressing and music production company. They have the most state of the art pressing plant and incredibly, their very first venture has been in remastering the original analogue masters of 'Tea for the Tillerman'. They released this late last year both in 200 gm Vinyl and for the first time ANYWHERE in the world EVER, on SACD (Super Audio CD). I would urge any Cat fan interested in hearing the best sound quality from their beloved Cat, to check them out. The Vinyl pressing and the SACD were the no. 1 best seller for months. The Vinyl is still at no. 1 today. The success is being followed up with Vinyl and SACD versions of Teaser & the Firecat and Catch Bull at Four. You can read all the rave reviews about the Vinyl pressing here: store.acousticsounds.com/d/75015/Cat_Stevens-Tea_For_The_Tillerman-200_Gram_Vinyl_Record(and you can see to the right, that it's at no. 1) They cost US$30 so, all of you majicatters living in the states have a great advantage over the rest of the world. Here in OZ I had to pay $45 for the SACD and another $7 postage from a store here in Melbourne. Bear in mind that to hear the wonders of an SACD your player needs to be able to play the SACD format (most sony bluray players will play them). I have a special SACD player so I bought the CD. I don't have a good record player, but if any of you do, I'm sure you'll be amazed (should you buy it)! Teaser and Catch Bull are already available for pre-order AND already selling like hot-cakes, their pre-order sales put them at no. 1 for Teaser and no. 3 for Catch Bull... Sadly not yet available for us in Australia Anyway, here's the link for all of them: store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&artistID=3096&LabelID=507Back to the Cat Collection of 11 cds - YES! the book should be made available separately - it'd be typical greed and marketing otherwise. Nice if you're not struggling for money and sad that some who are would go without to get this - THAT'S unfair! Really it is... Crazy world, crazy ideas, crazy rules and people end up justifying the why's and wherefore's, on and on and on... I only live here because I'm alive. Very little of what the world's about has anything I favour. Still, I can smile on my good days. We all bravely do. And most wonderfully, some days we can - spontaneously, because we lived like we were children again - and by that I mean children who are free to be children, and to live in their magical world of wonder and imagination and joy and purity of heart. I had so much I wanted to write but will have to stop and let this be enough. Besides, I can really ramble on at times hee hee lol Take care EVERYONE! I'VE MISSED YOU ALL SO MUCH! THANKYOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE GIVEN ME! Love to all, with love from, Jon.

I'm back! Just felt a nagging and a need to address my own words above. On reflection, I realise that some of what I wrote could easily be read with a view that I might have been referring to specific people/specific people's comments. Sorry for any readers taking possible offense, I realise AFTER writing my bits 'n' pieces that 'BUD' (sorry Bud) or others may have thought I was referring to him when I talked about people going without in order to afford to buy the 11 CD Collection. I really can see how that could look seeming he commented saying 'if I have to go without...' (etc), but no, no, no! I wasn't writing that with him in mind - possibly subconsciously it helped me to think about all the poor folk who have so very little in their lives to live on, yet would gain cheer and would therefore benefit by really sacrificing and going without in order to put that cheer in their heart for their love of Cat/Yusuf and the joy & uplifting the actual CDs would bring them. THAT is what I was thinking was so unfair. And even beside all that, it does seem such a repetition of album releases, over and over and over. My perspective may seem severe, but I truly feel that 70 to 80% of what we do in our lives is pointless. All we do for that larger percentage is replace the 'cogs' in the man-made-manipulated order directing and fashioning our lives. It would be so nice to be able to share what we have with others who have so little. And just one small example would be this very collection. We have all thrilled at the purchase and discovery of our different Cat Stevens/Yusuf purchases. And lovingly support the artist. It would be wonderful to not have guilt and to not be informed over and over, that we are 'breaking the law' and can be fined and even go to jail for sharing with our friends! This amounts to yet another conditioning that sharing is wrong. Way before the internet, most of us would have copied records onto cassette tape for our family or friends. We'd also copy it to play in the car! Nowadays we're made well aware that even making a copy of what we own - for ourselves! is illegal! It's wrong to share! Yeah right... I'll never bow down to the gods of greed and will look and see through all the 'copyright' bull-crap that goes along with it.
Oh! The other thing that may have offended was where I wrote about the collection as being unnecessary. Well, obviously it's not unnecessary for people who don't have the set or will derive great pleasure from the collection. And YES, me too! I'd like it! But I wont buy it - I AM one of those people who would literally have to go without to get it and I'm going without enough as it is. I may be a bit hungry, but I'm not starving - just to allay any alarm or worry there! No, there are plenty way worse off than me! But, even if I did have the money, there would be no point for me to buy it. I have all the albums and in good condition and some very rare stuff at that to boot.
It would've made more sense to have made some changes (for a real change). There are only a small few of us who have ever heard the quad mix of the Foreigner album. Today, it would be so easy to release that quad mix as a 5.1 surround sound album. Still, even a stereo version would be remarkable and wonderful for everyone. And to keep everyone happy, it could be a double album, with the more common version on one CD and the alternate mix on the other. I'd LOVE to hear that alternate mix - even in stereo, but remastered from its 1970s limited release. And Tea and Teaser could be the deluxe album versions too (maybe with a couple of changes there e.g. the rest of the 'Nine Lives' CD) and some revisions, like where the deluxe version presently states that 'On the Road to Find Out' was from the 'Year of the Child, Concert for Unicef' and NOT from the Kcet Session!!! I'm sure every Majicatter could think of something they'd like to see added. It could've been truly great, but it's just more of the same - apart from the book of course.
O.K. I will bid you all adieu my fine friends and wish you all the best for your days and nights to come.
Next time you're out playing? think of me, I would love to be there with you on the swings! Love, Jon.

Dear, dear, Jon - I know you only too well to take offense at anything you wrote. For others who don't know Jon, well, look up some of his older posts. You'll see that he is a generous guy with a big heart who shared with me some of the best bootlegs I have. He makes a great point about the quad mix of Foreigner. Why NOT release that? Jon - you are missed here. I hope you are getting to enjoy some time with your little granddaughter Jane

A few months back, I bought a high end Blu-Ray player that can read SACDs. (and when I mean "high end" I mean several hundreds of dollars, I got fed up with the cheap players that last only a couple of months and then goes bunkers on ya). I would be very curious to hear "Tillerman" on it. And "Teaser" for that matter. Thanks again for the tip!

Thanks for the info on the SACD's Jon. My CD player will play those but, in your opinion, how much better than the original or remastered version are they? I have the gold editions of Tillerman and Teaser. Do you think the sound is better than those? If I have to buy again that'll make 7 times I have purchased each album!

hi Jonathan so nice to see a few posts from you again...hope you'll be able to stop by every now and then. you have been sorely missed. so really stupid question alert....when you guys reference a bluray player you at talking about a bluray CD player exclusively right? i only ask because these days all the electronics seem to mimic each other...TVs and phones act like computers...phones act as tvs, etc. we have a bluray DVD player but that wouldn't work would it?

so really stupid question alert....when you guys reference a bluray player you at talking about a bluray CD player exclusively right? Nope. Most bluray players will play all kinds of different formats: blurays, DVDs, CDs. Check your user manual. Usually at the beginning you will find a list of all the formats your can play. If it says: SACD (Super Audio CD) then you would be able to play the Cat Stevens SACDs Jonathan mentionned. Hope this helps, I know technology can be very confusing.

Sure can be! thanks Glaucus I'll have to check. It would be cool to own one of those. p.s. another dumb question: to take advantage of the quality of the SACD format i would presume you would need to have a set of pretty decent speakers or why bother, right?

Hi,
I am not sure about blu-ray players but an ordinary cd player will not play SACD'S in that format. They will play SACD'S"S but only in cd format. So check what cd player you have,
Kind regards,
Chris

I definitely dont have a bluray CD player, but we have a bluray DVD so I am going to check that out. It might even be hooked up to decent speakers - we have surround sound and it sounds very good, but I have no idea what a music cd would sound like. Probably good too...certainly worth a $36 experiment in any event.
Thanks for the info.

The new 11 CD box set has appeared on amazon.com, amazon.ca, and other music sites, under the name "Cat Stevens Remasters Box 2012". The price on amazon.com seems quite hefty (156.39$). Amazon.ca has it for 65.90$, and since we're at par with the american dollar I don't understand the discrepancy. Available for pre-order, released on April 17, 2012.

Well, the price on amazon.ca has gone up a little since last night (I ordered mine for about 65$). It is now sold at 71.72$ and is now listed as "Cat Stevens - Collection" and the release date has changed to March 26.
The price on amazon.com is still 156$ and you still can find it under the title: Cat Stevens Remasters box 2012.
amazon.co.uk has it for 48 English pounds.

It sounds as though you got the best price, glaucus. I got it for about $79 including shipping. I can hardly believe amazon.com has it listed at $156. They have to know people shop around.

Absolutely right! SACDs will play on ordinary cd players but you have to have a special cd player which can play that format. Plus, as you say, a really good set of speakers! Otherwise I doubt you'd notice any difference.
Cheers, Chris

(Sorry for the repost - but this thread seems to be the main one for the new box set... ) Does anyone have any new info on this box set? I've noticed that Amazon Canada has changed the availability of this item from "temporarily out of stock" to "Usually ships within 2 to 5 months". Strange. Amazon UK has even removed the item completely from their website. I pre-ordered the item from them awhile back and just recently received an email which states the following: We regret to report that the release of the following item has been cancelled:
Cat Stevens "The Collection"
Our supplier has informed us that this item is no longer available. This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it.
Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused.Very strange. The release date for this also seems to be a moving target. While Amazon Canada listed it with a March release date, I've seen it listed on other sites with a release date of April 17th, April 30th...even May 15th and May 25th. What is up with this collection? I don't think Amazon Canada ever had this item in stock...has anyone here received it yet from Amazon.ca? On a bright note, I notice that Chapters.ca has this box set listed online (with a release date of May 15th, 2012) at only $71.75 (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/music/...ns&ikwsec=Home). Using the $5 off Chapters coupon code for April - APRIL2012 - it drops the price down to only $66.75 before taxes and shipping charges. In Canada, Chapters shipping is free over $25, so the total price with taxes works out to ~$75. Not as good as the Amazon UK deal, but still not bad (and in line with the original Amazon.ca price some fans were able to take advantage of). I've ordered it...now let's see what happens.

Hi Jeremy, It seems the record company is completely improvising with this release. As far as my order with amazon.ca goes, it was delayed but then I got an update from them yesterday saying that my estimated arrival date would be April 27, 2012. I am not holding my breath! You'd think that for such a release they would be more organize than that.

I agree...it's very frustrating. Aside from the original press release by Universal on January 31st (which, interestingly enough, never stated any release date for this box set), there has been little new information about this box set posted online. No new pictures, no reviews from anyone who has received an advanced copy, nothing. Yusuf's official website has never even mentioned the release (or anything pertaining to any 45th anniversary celebrations). Very strange.
At least your email from Amazon Canada was more optimistic than mine from Amazon UK. LOL
The estimated arrival date given to you by Amazon Canada seems to suggest that this item will be released within the next week or so. Hopefully you will receive it by then. Keep us posted.
I'm quite curious about this box set and the mystery surrounding it's release date. I'm sure that when it's eventually released we'll be quite happy.
