I've noticed a listing on several music retailer websites for a new Cat Stevens Remasters box set, containing all 11 of Cat's albums. According to the various retailers, this box set will be released in April 2012. Depending on which website you visit, the box set will be released on either April 9, 2012 or April 17, 2012. Here'a a link to the amazon.co.uk listing: www.amazon.co.uk/Cat-Stevens-Remasters-Box-2012/dp/B0075D8RMI. Amazon UK lists the release as 46.88 GBP; after VAT is deducted and with shipping, the total price for this item shipped is only ~42 GBP (or ~$66). An amazing deal for 11 discs. Amazon.ca is calling the set "The Collection", lists it for only $72.96 CDN and advises that it will be released on March 26, 2012! $73 for 11 remastered discs is a pretty good price. By comparison, Amazon US is listing the release for $156!! I've been doing a bit of digging an found a listing on New Zealand's Mighty Ape website which gives a number of details about this release (http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/CD/The-Cat-Stevens-Collection-11CD-Limited-Edition-Boxset/19756488/ ). According to the Mighty Ape listing: 2012 marks 45 years since Yusuf Islam released his very first album as Cat Stevens. ‘Matthew & Son’ was released in March 1967 and was set to spearhead an incredible career spanning decades and reaching fans all over the world.
To celebrate this monumental event we are releasing various products throughout the year.
Kicking off with ‘Cat Stevens-The Collection.’ An 11 disc set containing all 11 of Cat Stevens original studio albums, all re-mastered in one package. This will be the first time all albums will be available as a full re-mastered set. The box will also include a 164 page hardback book, filled with a specially commissioned essay by Robin Denslow, rare images, and full liner notes and booklet info from each original album.
All this encased in our brand spanking new ‘MINT pac’ packaging. Containing no plastic, this slick package contains CDs in individual wallets, housed in a highly portable slipcase box.
Key Features
· 11CDs
· Each album Re-mastered
· 164 page hardback book
· Rare images
· Extensive essay written by Robin Denslow
· Original booklets and liner notes
Albums included:
Matthew & Son (1967) New Masters (1968) Mona Bone Jakon (1970) Tea For The Tillerman (1970) Teaser And The Firecat (1971) Catch Bull At Four (1972) Foreigner (1973) Buddha And The Chocolate Box (1974) Numbers (1975) Izitso (1977) Back To Earth (1978)This looks like it will be a phenomenal release for Cat Stevens fans. If the above details are correct, the Amazon UK and Amazon Canada prices are a steal!!!

Does anyone have any new info on this box set?
I've noticed that Amazon Canada has changed the availability of this item from "temporarily out of stock" to "Usually ships within 2 to 5 months". Strange.
Amazon UK has even removed the item completely from their website. I pre-ordered the item from them awhile back and just recently received an email which states the following:
We regret to report that the release of the following item has been cancelled:
Cat Stevens "The Collection"
Our supplier has informed us that this item is no longer available. This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it.
Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused.
Very strange.
The release date for this also seems to be a moving target. While Amazon Canada listed it with a March release date, I've seen it listed on other sites with a release date of April 17th, April 30th...even May 15th and May 25th.
What is up with this collection?
I don't think Amazon Canada ever had this item in stock...
On a bright note, I notice that Chapters.ca has this box set listed online (with a release date of May 15th, 2012) at only $71.75 (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/music/...ns&ikwsec=Home).
Using the $5 off Chapters coupon code for April - APRIL2012 - it drops the price down to only $66.75 before taxes and shipping charges. In Canada, Chapters shipping is free over $25, so the total price with taxes works out to ~$75. Not as good as the Amazon UK deal, but still not bad. I've ordered it...now let's see what happens.

Hello Majicatters, hope that you're having a beautiful weekend .. xo
I'm sorry that I have to inform you from a most reliable source that the Remasters Set is not going to be launched anywhere, but Australia, and that was its intention by Yusuf in the first place . Universal jumped the gun and planned to release it worldwide, but, Yusuf didn't approve this plan, and its always been intended to be released in Australia only, and that is where the confusion lies . It is 13 CDS all Cat and Yusuf albums, and, the launch date is July 27th, but, for Australia only. At this point in time this is the information that I have .. I will keep you posted when I get more info in next few days .. xx peace, Aurarisma

These days it doesn't matter where something is released - you can always buy it online. I don't see it on pre-order here but I'm sure they will have it when it is released: www.jbhifi.com.au/I have purchased from them before - the Australia version of the "Roadsinger" CD that includes "Boots and Sand" and the Australian Tour DVD. Neither of those was released in the US. Their shipping rates are very reasonable, so I wouldn't be too concerned about getting it if you want it.

It's not the information I was waiting for, but it is at least a confirmation that the box set is being released somewhere... It's nice to finally get a revised release date. Now to find an online retailer that is selling it for a decent price...

Thanks Jonathan. Has anyone received this yet? Apparently mine is on its way, it has finally been shipped yesterday after being back ordered. I was hesitant to buy it for various reasons but it will be nice to have all the remastered albums in one collection. It's supposed to come with a book, unless that has been scrapped? I'll let you know my impressions.

I just checked my order on Play4Me and it shows as being shipped yesterday as well. I'll also give details if mine arrives before others.

My copy arrived yesterday.
No special book, as orginally mentioned when this topic first came up. Every CD has a gatefold cover - with the booklets inside.
As with the reissues, Mona Bone Jakon has the original handwritten lyrics, Numbers has the full booklet. Foreigner cover is white - not the blue / color photo that was used in some issues (no postcard for that one as well, as originally came with the album).
Matthew and Son has 16 tracks, New Masters has 12 + 11 bonus tracks. New Masters is the same as the reissue I have from 2003.
M & S is strange - I have a version of this that has the 16 tracks (issued in 1988) - it seems they have used this one for the box. But a 2003 issue has six extra tracks (mono versions of the singles).
The Cat Stevens albums don't mention remaster, put the booklets that I looked through all say "Reissue supervised" so I suspect that they are.
Roadsinger does not have "Boots and Sand" as the special Aus tour version did.
All the labels on the CDs have the same artwork - a generic vinyl look - red label with black vinyl - typical for reissues.
Inside the box (only seen when all the CDs are removed) are some of the illustrations from NUmbers.
So - nice to have all the albums in a package that takes up less than three inches of shelf space and has a "complete" feel to it, but probably not a required purchase for anyone on a budget.

Thanks for the report / review, Dan. It's too bad about the book - or lack thereof. Did the site you purchased it from mention the book in its listing?

No - I don't believe it did. I bought it from Play4me (?) - the site mentioned above. I just checked and I didn't see any mention of an additional book.

I should get mine this coming week. I only realized afterwards that there was no book included. Also, the original package that was advertised on amazon didn't include "Roadsinger" and "An Other Cup". Anyway... it will be nice to at least have all the remastered albums. Someone's gonna inherit my individual Cat CDs that's for sure. No need to have them in double!
Nice to see there is still some life left on these boards. Anybody else's been hearing the crickets lately?

It came this morning.
Definately not worth 90 dollars. (I even saw it for over 150$ somwhere). I was expecting a more lavish box set. One has to wonder if the cardboard packaging for each CD has been used because it's more eco-friendly or because it's cheap to produce. In any case, I'll be storing them in plastic jewel cases anyway. Those cardboard slip cases are the best way to scratch your discs!
With all the misinformation that has been floating around about that box set in the last few months, this release at it is now is quite disapointing. One is better off with the individual CDs.
What would be even more upsetting would be a North American release including "the book" that was supposed to come with this. I honeslty think I would pass......

Furthermore....
My not so humble advice: stay away from that collection. Upon checking out the individual CDs, all of them had a drop of glue on the edge of the play side which I had to remove with my fingernails!!! Cheap packaging! 90$ for this??
Shamefull and disappointing.
Cat fans deserve better than this.

Thanks for the review. That's very disapointing, wanted to have the boxset because of the book and remastered versions of the Cat CDs
Will save my money for the next concerts :-)

i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w377/trotnj/IMG_4358.jpghere you go Christina. Each CD cover is gatefold. The center picture in Glaucus' photo is just the box. I took a photo of the other side - on that side it is a bit tan - like the Yusuf / Cat Stevens names on the box itself.

Actually, that's "Matthew & Son". trotsnj has placed them in the same order I did. Indeed, the right side for most of them are just blank. However there is a booklet for each CD. I wasn't impressed by this release, see my earlier posts. And no, no book as it was first intended. Maybe an eventual North American release would be different. I intend to rip all of them onto one BD-R in wave form. (since all of them had glue on the play side...).
