EXCITING NEWS FROM CAT/YUSUF!!! “I’m making a new record, … and we’re coming up to 50 years since my first record back in 1966. There will be quite a lot of new music and products to celebrate those 50 years. That’s coming next year”

This will a very interesting feature, folks, and lite really, I'm happy to hear about his third comeback to to the music business, since he decided to quit for 37 years when Back To Earth was his final album that year. After so many years of being away from music, and turning away from that era, we all felt shocked and disappointed that Cat would never intend to play, or use that guitar again. But in 2006, his son brought it back into the house, and there it was lying on the couch, and suddenly when picking it up, the legacy was there. But, this time a new album evolved, with new chords, words, and it all came out like a floodgate? I'm hoping to get the book Why I Still Carry A Guitar for my birthday in July, as I've been a big fan of him for nearly 44 years. His music has been very cool and uplifting, pure and meaningful. Every song he wrote in the 70s told a story. Take, for example the song "Where Do The Children Play? That was a song about ecology searching for kids to find a a place to play? Sweet peace Tiffany?

Just posted on Yusuf's Twitter feed yesterday -
I assume if they are at the mastering stage, then this album is pretty much complete. If the timeframe between mixing, mastering and release for Tell 'Em I'm Gone (back in 2014) is any indication, I anticipate a new album release sometime this Fall. Great news.

I can't wait what he will come up with this time. I found An Other Cup to be a masterpiece both in terms of song-writing plus performance as well as production plus arrangement.
If Paul Samwell-Smith, Cat Stevens' old producer, is any indication for the potential sound of upcoming album, I'd love to see a return to Cat Stevens' infamous swampy guitar sound.

By Kev Geoghegan 27 July, 2016
Yusuf aka Cat Stevens has said he is working on a "childlike" album of new material. The singer recently released a new charity track He Was Alone, to raise funds for child refugees. Since his self-imposed exile from music, which lasted nearly 30 years before ending in 2006, he has recorded three albums.
"I can't stop writing, I've almost finished something," he told the BBC. "I keep on going back and hearing little licks and riffs which can take years. It's a process for some songs to come to light but there's always ideas."
Despite his latest track touching on a very real political debate in the current refugee crisis, he insisted be wants to avoid politics in his music. “When it comes to my next album, it's very childlike. I've gone back in time to some of my older songs, I've just rediscovered some really great songs in my catalogue going back as far as 1967. It's fifty years since I released I Love my Dog so, going back, I find this great theme of childhood, these songs which are great for kids. But it's not a kid album, because I think all of us have got this kind of naivety. We keep a little part of us naive to survive in the world, and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy it for that reason. So I've got another album coming out”.

Not yet. However, Yusuf's new website is up and the overhauled RedRoom is hopefully launching later this year. This November/December Yusuf is still touring Australia, then New Zealand. I guess the new album won't come out before the tour is over. 2018 is my guess.

I read in an article about the Australian tour that the album is going to come out before the tour. This would be about September.

Saw a mention on the Steve Hoffman forum about a new album called The Laughing Apple.
Very few details. Titled The Laughing Apple. It looks like this might be a mix of older and new songs?
Tracklist 1. Blackness Of The Night 2. See What Love Did To Me 3. The Laughing Apple 4. Olive Hill 5. Grandsons 6. Mighty Peace 7. Mary And The Little Lamb 8. You Can Do (Whatever)! 9. Northern Wind (Death Of Billy The Kid) 10. Don't Blame Them 11. I'm So Sleepy

Also on the Hofman forums:
"Some news courtesy of IMWAN:
"This is what I found on Maartin Allcock's web site:
"I was delighted to record an album, The Laughing Apple, with Yusuf at ICP Studios in Brussels a while back, which will hopefully appear this year. We've already started work on the follow-up album, this time at Benny Andersson's RMV Studio in Stockholm. Both albums are produced by my favourite producer Paul Samwell-Smith, who I worked a lot with in the 1980s and 1990s. I worked on Yusuf's comeback album, An Other Cup, in 2006. It was a brilliant time and Yusuf is a musical genius and such a nice man. While I was in Stockholm I heard of the death of my mother, and Yusuf was very supportive to me. Yusuf's long-time sideman Alun Davies was on acoustic guitar, singing and general support, Kwame Yerboah was on drums and percussion, and I was on basses, acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards. The engineer was David Hefti from Hansa Studios Berlin."
