Ok. The public reaction to Yusuf performance was very good. Yes Yusuf did look more tired than nervous. Its a shame that he was not on for longer and the songs he sang were slow. I would have liked him to have sang East/West. Never mind maybe next time.

I have to post this question once again... what was the public reaction during the Yusuf's performance... watching his recent performances, it seems to me that he is always nervous/unconfortable with first song (see how he almost mistaken first verse of One Day At...), and after that he usually become more relaxed... and, after all, Royal Albert Hall was his first big real/secular event, even "mini concert" in UK/London after many, many years ... Porchester was an intimate gig... Hamburg was in Germany etc. Crobarbie, Yusuf got a fantastic reception from the crowd, he really did ;D This is my personal opinion, others at the concert may not agree with me, but to me Yusuf did come across as being a bit weary. I thought his performance at Live Earth was his best in recent months, especially Saturn, which I didn't think he sang near as good at the Royal Albert. I know Ramadan can't be an easy time, so maybe this had something to do with his performance. I could be completely wrong, but as I said, this is only my opinion!

Tnx a lot Marier, I know that all you Majicats had a great time at the Peace One Day Concert... I am happy for you all... but my first interest here was Yusuf performance, so that's why i insisted on some more concrete details... and your observations are very realistic (seems to me). Yusuf is just human so he can't always be "brilliant as ever" during every performance... because it is no so... and yes, probably it is not easy to be in great physical form during Ramadan (despite spiritual), and live performing always takes a lot of energy, no matter if songs are fast or slow... so, it seems to me that Live Earth Hamburg performance is still his highlight untill now, also maybe because GREAT reception of the crowd, especialy because many young people were very enthusisastic during his Hamburg performance

I would have liked him to have sang East/West. Never mind maybe next time. He's probably saving it up for me. Coz one of these days I'll make it.......... or not. Anyway, it's all good. Me there or not. Sorry to hear Yusuf seemed tired ... it must all be too much sometimes. I don't blame him at all. Glad the crowd was gracious and received him well! Good work as always, Yusuf...

Nice reports, thank you. With all these events, Yusuf won't need to headline his own concert!

The following is a review in London's Evening Standard newspaper:
Fiery Lennox sings for a ceasefire By Chris Elwell-Sutton, Evening Standard 24.09.07
Friday marked the highest-profile event so far for the eight-year-old Peace One Day campaign - a movement devoted to the worldwide adoption of an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence.
As is always the case when celebrities and good causes come together, there were a few occasions on which the worthy gave way to the downright cringe-worthy, but Annie Lennox's appearance at the top of the bill brought the night to an electrifying conclusion.
A speech about humanitarian issues by an infuriatingly handsome Jude Law was followed by the bearded, benevolent presence of Yusuf, formerly Cat Stevens. An updated version of Peace Train and a cover of Saturn by Stevie Wonder were pleasant enough, although a couple of old favourites would have been appreciated.
After a rather embarrassing sponsored appearance by Linford Christie, James Morrison took the stage to inject some real soul into Wonderful World.
Annie Lennox was a worthy headliner, bringing the crowd to their feet with her breathtaking voice as she opened with a sensitive rendition of Little Bird. Walking on Broken Glass gave the 52-year-old a chance to show off her uniquely animated stagecraft.
The crowd was made ecstatic by Sweet Dreams and her 1992 hit, Why, provided a heartfelt encore.

Just a little aside. I too thought that Yusuf looked a little tired when he performed and Annie and I both thought that he looked older too. However, in contradiction, John and Peter who accompanied him said that Yusuf was really excited and pumped up after the show. He obviously was more up for it than it appeared! John said that they really wanted to do another song and that they had rehearsed 'I Think I See The Light' but at the last moment Yusuf decided not to go with that option. This was a real pity because I'd have liked him to do another song. His performance was too brief. There were many people near me who were ecstatic to see Yusuf perform and whilst he didn't get the screams James Morrison did the applause was enthusiastic and appropriate and I think Yusuf appreciated that.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful photos and descriptions of the Peace One Day concert. It sounds like it was a great evening. I wonder why Yusuf decided not to sing "I Think I See The Light". That would have been great and it would have had a lot more pep than the other songs. He looks wonderful in the photo. I do have to say I really like the vest look so much better than the scarf! How nice to hear that Yusuf was pumped up after his peformance. I am so happy that he enjoys performing again. Is it true that one does not even drink water from sunup to sundown during Ramadan? I wonder if Yusuf had a chance to eat anything before performing. The lack of water all day might account for some of the weariness. I wonder where Alun was. It is always great to see the two of them together. Yusuf was so fantastic at "Live Earth". He was just amazing and I love his performance of "Saturn". He sure had lots of energy that night!! Wish they had put up the rest of Yusuf's set. I would have loved to see him do "Saturn" again. Thanks to Yusuf for doing these concerts. We are so happy you are performing your wonderful songs again!

Is it true that one does not even drink water from sunup to sundown during Ramadan? Hi, Waterside! Sorry I only now noticed your question. Yes, one does not even drink water. To my knowledge, fasting actually starts at dawn, which is the moment the morning sky just begins to lighten, but the sun itself is nowhere in sight. This occurs about one and a half hours before sunrise. Sunrise, of course, begins when the sun itself can first be seen rising on the horizon. And yes, we break fast immediately after sunset. Thanks for asking! ~Sun~

Even though he probably performed after sunset and had had some water by then, it still would take it's toll, and that is probably why he looked tired.
