I too missed the encore and I thought I hung around long enough..oh well. I was just happy to hear "Ruins". I don't post here (or anywhere) often but I rememeber someone a long time ago saying they thought that was one of the most perfect songs in the world and I mentally agreed. I got a tear in my eye as he sang it because this too was one of my favorite songs of his. I also got a tear when I heard "Where do the Children Play" because I thought it was ironic that 30 some years later, here he is, singing what almost could be called the "poster song" of this whole series of concerts. Strangely, he wrote a song about how he felt about the world back then and it is still slowly deteriorating. Ok with out getting too heavy here.....I loved this performance. I am so glad this man is BACK! (And kudos to Chris Cornell who sang before Yusuf...nothing like a little eye candy and a guy with beautiful voice too!)
xxoo ~ A
***edited to add: James Blunt--glad to read someone else thought he butchered the song too. Note to Yusuf: Send Blunt a card and tell him NEVER to do your songs again! You don't need any help.

I'm confused. Yusuf's part was in Hamberg, Germany, right? The concert airing on TV now is in New York City. Do they jump from location to location or what. I DO NOT WANT TO MISS YUSUF!!! What gives!!!

And in a way, I'm happy that he didn't sing "Peace Train"--people come to expect that, I think, and it's nice to change course sometimes. You must have missed the encore, because he played Peace Train when they came back on stage Rats, I missed it! I was watching online, and the streaming video switched off the program (and started showing credits) while everyone was calling for an encore. I *wondered* if he gave an encore...I'll have to look for it online. Thanks for mentioning it! Bella

Sounds like he did a whole mini concert I am so sad but thrilled that Yusuf did an awesome job as always. I did so want to see him though! Will this be available anywhere else. What channel was this on and at what time since I have TV's on all over the house on 3 different channels.

Viv, Yusuf played at 11:00 PM or around there, Germany time, which would have been around 4:00 pm est. So right now they are only playing the NYC leg of the Live Earth concerts. The Tokyo, London and German concerts are over.

MSN is currently re-streaming the Hamburg concert in its entirety--but probably without Yusuf's encore (grrrr....). I'm guessing that they cut off his encore while I was watching it live because they were already behind schedule to start re-streaming the whole thing, since the concert ran about 10 minutes late. Unfortunately, there is no way to fast-forward to the end in this re-broadcast entimg.msn.com/i/LiveEarth/player/altplayer/q.html?StreamName=Germany.smiBella

Thank You, Thank You Glaucus, it was beautiful watching Yusuf up on stage. And I agree, Yusuf looked very comfortable and happy to be able to help out for this cause. RUINS was terrific.... I'd definitely give it a 9 or a 10! Your a life saver Glaucus! (well maybe not in the literal sense, but you catch my drift)

"Wild World (and Yusuf sang Baby Baby!!!)" yeah, just noticed that. looking forward to reading kareema's review of the gig. OK, I watched all the uploaded video just because you wanted to see my review. Many thanks to Glaucus because I was at work when Br. Yusuf was onstage. I thought "Saturn" was the best of the set. It was so easy for me to substitute the word "Jannah" ("Paradise/Heaven") for the references to "Saturn" in this piece. As for the "baby, baby" in "Wild World"... he's still referring to "baby" as in "child"... he's just using the English word instead of "banna, banna". And of course, I loved his Salaams... Peace be with you. It is not easy to consistently be yourself when you have a foot in two very different worlds... each group has expectations and passes judgement. It can cause some schizophrenia while we try to sort out who God expects us to be instead of who people on both sides of the bridge expect us to be. So Br. Yusuf plays his guitar again and I wear jeans to the mosque. And as far as his interaction with the audience... I know how rewarding it is on my own small scale to be welcomed for who you are... in spite of all the negativity that the media spews about our faith. The trick is to remember that this acceptance is not my personal doing... or his... but the work of God in our lives. It reminds me of a Garden Party. "Well, it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. See,you can't please everyone... so you've got to please yourself"(And pleasing God is the most important of all.) I'm not really sure why he wears the fringed scarf around his neck... except for that he did that originally when he first became Muslim. Perhaps it's his own personal reminder of his faith. Kareema

You're welcomed all ! It's a joy sharing these clips. What a great mini-concert. "Ruins" was fabulous and so "à propos"! And Alun back vocals were so good on that song! Oh, as far as the low YouTube ratings go, it's nothing compared to the comments I had to filter out. Have you ever seen a hord of roaches invading some space and then you try and try again to get rid of them but you can't? LOL ! Tonite was like that. And now I know why.... Apparently the very un-biased FOX NEWS ran yet another damaging piece on Gore and Yusuf earlier today, I won't even get into it, you can find it on-line.... In consequence, hundreds of paranoid trolls with an agenda invaded my videos, thus the low ratings. Anyway, it's a question of time before the ratings go up again but if you stop by, please leave a good one to even things out!

Watched the concert on msn. I can not believe it, Yusuf was great, so relaxed and happy. I am so gutted that he was nothing like he was yesterday in Bochum Why Yusuf? As I said he sang 3 songs and could not wait to get of stage.

Believe me, Glaucus, I understand the frustation, I received the same type of troll emails on Majicat form mail last night and today. It all makes sense now, I just read the article about the Hannity and Colmes show. I am so glad my remote control knows how to jump over the Fox Slur News station.
