Hi everyone,
Earlier this year a great documentary on Cat Stevens was broadcasted here in Australia. I am sure that the documentary was made in England, for the BBC I think, and it was called 'Cat Stevens - A True Story'. I am not sure where you all live but I suspect most of you live in America. So I was just wondering if any of you have seen it? If you have not, I would try to some how get a copy of it. It was made in 2001 by the way so it has been out and about for a while so I hope they put it on VHS or DVD as it was very very well presented and was 100% backed by Cat Stevens (he had interviews done for the doco, etc...)
Ricky
P.S. Coogee, seeing as you live down under as well, did you watch it when it was on? It was on the ABC by the way.

Hello, Ricky,
That's not a programme I've heard of before. The only one I'm aware of is the 'Behind The Music' documentary that gets broadcast quite regularly in the States. The only documentary here in the UK, I know of, from the BBC is Radio 2's 'Cat Stevens - a musical journey' that was recorded in 2001 and was broadcasted this January. It's possible they did a TV one too around the same time, but I'm not aware of it being shown here yet. I would be very interested to see it, if you have recorded it.

Hi, I know of an Australian TV documentary which consisted of an interview with Yusuf and old photos/footage shown in 1995. Hope this is useful.

I have a feeling that the AUSTRAILIAN show and BEHIND THE MUSIC are one and the same!

I'll transcribe the introduction of the docoumentary so you guys can tell me if its from 'Behind the Music' (which I have not seen) or any other documentary you know of:
(Documentary starts with concert footage of Cat playing 'Peace Train')
"Peace train sounding louder, glide on the peace train" -Cat
(Narrator then comes in)
"He conquered the wide world of pop with heart-felt songs that spoke eliquently to his times" - Narrator
(Music from 'Can't Keep it in' then plays)
(Cat then says)
"I essentially lived and breathed music. That was my life" ------------------------------------------------------------------------
The introduction continues for a while after that with music, pictures, clips from interviews etc.. Hopefully you should be able to tell if you have that documentary by what I have just written out. By the way, I am not sure if I spell that word 'eliquently' right - it is pronounced like: elle-la-gwent-ly if that helps.
George, I think you might be reffering to a story that was on 60 minutes from memory.
DJ & everyone else, if you are interested I DID tape it and when I am able to get two VCR's I'll make some copies for you if you want it. I'm curious to hear if its related to the 'behind the music' documentary.

Hello, Ricky,
Yup, what you've got there is the BTM documentary, that's exactly how it starts. I have a copy George did for me, but thanks for the offer anyway.
Cheers, DJ

Hello All,
This BTM screened in New Zealand early this year. It was totaly disjointed as it lasted only 60 minutes & that included aproximately 12 minutes of adverts.
I've seen the 90 minutes version & it's such a shame that people this side of the World weren't able to see the full uncut story.
Linda
PS, Hi to all the Aussie fans.

Lady D, my version goes for about 1 hour with no ads. I would really love to be able to get a hold of the full version of the documentary, so if anyone out there would be able to make me up a copy I would appreciate that very much.
I never suspected that the documentary that was shown here in Oz had bits cut out of it but when i rewatched it yesterday I could see some evidence of it. It is a great documentary and every time I watch it I am memorized by it.
Ricky
P.S. if anyone out there is able to make a copy of the BTM documentary please email at
dragonboy22@hotmail.com
Thanks
