Starting late this coming October, I will FINALLY be launching my very own internet-based company! ;D As of yet, I have not decided on a NAME for the company, which will specialize in Rock & Roll memorabilia. The items will range from concert posters(most ORIGINALS-not reprints) through concert programs, autographed pictures, etc. One item that will be for sale(among the several Cat-related)is something that one does NOT get a chance to see very often:an amp that was owned by Cat during the EARLY part of his career! Yup, this very amp was used by Cat in the late sixties, and is reported to have been a FAVORITE of his! I am currently negotiating with it's current owner(who lives in London), after which the amp will be arriving at L.A.X., personally delivered by my friend Pete Grant(who is helping me to set up my new company)! Other Cat-related items for sale will include:an autographed copy of Cat's FIRST greatest-hits album(yes, it IS signed "Cat Stevens" NOT "Yusuf Islam"), an autographed copy of "Tea For The Tillerman"(yes, THIS album IS signed "Yusuf Islam"),the "Teaser & The Firecat" book(the one with the text in three languages), a B&W glossy publicity photo of Cat(circa 1975), ORIGINAL(NO reprints)posters for Cat's Majikat 1976 North American Tour and to top it all off, not one but TWO posters Yusuf signed for me when I met him in May 2000 in Los Angeles at his U.C.L.A. lecture! One of these posters is a copy of the North American Majikat poster(mentioned above)and the other is a large reprint of an article posted here on Majicat(taken from a People magazine article on Yusuf) titled "Lecturing Lords In London". If you look CLOSELY on the poster there, you can actually see a FINGERPRINT in ink, left by our very own YUSUF(as he gleefully read that article)! As soon as the site is up and running, I will post the URL for it HERE on Majicat! ;D Hugs, Shirley

P.S. There will also be for sale(on the above-mentioned site) the actual piano used by elusive & legendary singer/songwriter EMITT RHODES to record his classic first album(1970, self-titled)! It is in GREAT shape, having been well cared for through the thirty-plus years since Emitt recorded that classic album!
Since Emitt is a close personal friend of mine(I am negotiating DIRECTLY WITH EMITT on the sale)I can personally attest as to the authenticity of the piano. For those who wish to have a C.O.A., I can gladly provide such on request. ;D
Hugs,
Shirley

Oh wow that amp would be something to have! I always wondered what happened to all of Cat's belongings after he auctioned them off.

Shirley,
That sounds fantastic news, I'm sure there's going to be so much interest in the Cat memorabilia. I'd love to play Cat's songs through one of his own amps. Can't wait till your business is up and running.
Good luck, DJ

Shirley!
I didn't know Y left a fingerprint on that article! You never told me that! Cool. And congrats on getting that amp!
And even bigger congrats on getting that Emitt piano! And thanks for introducing me (in part) to Emitt. I really, really love his music. Tell him "hi" from me! Tell him he needs to write and record again, for God's sake! He's great!
Lucy.

I already have that article, but just for the fact that Shirley's copy has Yusuf's finger print, I would LOVE to have it! And YES, even though I don't play, I would LOVE that amp! Hairy plays, and I am sure he would love it! Hey are any of Cat's guitars up for grabs!
Peace,Vivian

Hi! ;D I have been trying for AGES to track down the whereabouts of ANY of Cat's old guitars..no luck so far! I suspect that the guitars have, for the most part, ended up in PRIVATE collections, in the hands of owners who would NEVER want to part with them! My friend Pete in London is gonna meet again this week with the amp's current owner, to find out MORE about it! By all accounts, it's in very good shape, and works perfectly. This amp was apparently given away by CAT, during his convalescent period(when he was still recovering from TB), and was passed from a family friend to eventually it's CURRENT owner, who, like Cat, is part GREEK and was acting as a manager to his talented younger brother until recently(my friend Pete is now managing this man's very talented and handsome younger brother, Joe Oskys). I am VERY thrilled and honored to be able to offer Emitt's historic old piano for sale, too! ;D Every time I hear the piano on such songs as "Fresh As A Daisy" and "She's Such A Beauty" it gives me a real THRILL to know it is THIS piano that I'm hearing on those songs! It was used EXTENSIVELY on that first solo album, after which he bought a grand piano to record his subsequent albums with(he gave this piano to his MOTHER, who lovingly cared for it until her death a few years ago). I AGREE, Lucy! I hope that Emitt RETURNS as a recording artist SOON(he has worked as a recording ENGINEER for some years now). Hugs, Shirley

Well someone recently said that they saw one of Cat's guitars in a HARD ROCK CAFE in Boston! And I THINK Ian Anderson ended up with one! And Yusuf's nephew also has one! But, YES, I can understand, if I had one of Cat's guitars, I could NEVER part with it! Of course, I could NEVER part with ANYTHING he touched! Still, I would LOVE to learn more about that amp! Hey, what about Cat's concert stool!?
Peace,Vivian

Hi Viv! My endeavor has been to track down any AVAILABLE old guitar of Cat's, with NO luck so far. A friend of Pete's lives right outside of Boston, and HAS seen the guitar you mention(in Boston's Hard Rock Cafe). THAT guitar was given to Ian Anderson by Cat, who in turn gave it to the Cafe. I had also heard about Yusuf's nephew owning one of Cat's old guitars, too(A SWEDISH make, if memory serves me right). For ME, what would be the HOLY GRAIL of Cat guitars to find is the one that was STOLEN from Cat, taken while he was on tour(a black Gibson). You can see Cat actually playing THIS guitar on at least TWO videos:"Father & Son" and "Lady D'Arbanville". I have concentrated my search in the area of LONDON, and WILL NOT give up the search!!! ;D Hugs, Shirley

Shirley, your new enterprise sounds fascinating and wonderful! I wish you much luck with it!
It certainly sounds like you've got some great things to offer, and I'll bet the search for memorabilia is a kick, too, isn't it?
Best wishes to you! flower

You know, Shirley, a thought just occured to me! If we come accross some black Gibsons, how are WE going to know WHICH one if ANY is THE black Gibson! Maybe we will have to bring them ONE BY ONE to Yusuf and see if he can personally identify any of them! If he can, we will THEN know that we have toe RIGHT gibson!!

Hi Viv! Well, I gotta admit I will LOVE the "Task" of getting those black Gibson guitars delivered PERSONALLY to Yusuf, for him to see which one is the REAL THING! ;D Hi Jan! It is WONDERFUL to hear from you again(you are MISSED on "Rock groupietales)! ;D Yes, it is a BIG STEP I'm taking with this new company, but it is something I've wanted to do for AGES now, and it IS a hoot to search out items for sale, too! BIG Hugs, Shirley

Hey Shirley, I would [shadow=red,left,300]LOVE[/shadow] that task as well! And I can JUST IMAGINE the look on Yusuf's face when we show up on his front door step with a couple hundred black gibsons asking him to pick out and identify THE REAL THING!! He would probably DIE LAUGHING!! That would be [glow=red,2,300]ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!![/glow] Hugs and :-*Vivian flower hippie wiggle drool

And of course, wouldn't it be a blast if we could pick Cat's finger prints off of it! Of course, we would have to match them with Yusuf's finger prints! Then we would KNOW for sure that we have a match!! giggle wiggle
