In an attempt to get a discussion going I got an idea. Why don't we pick Cat songs and try to discuss and analyze what he is talking about in them. We discussed "Tuesday's Dead" at Peacetrain once and it was an interesting discussion. Does anyone have any song they would like to discuss and analyze? Pick one and maybe we can get some activity going here.

Well it certainly is a challange climbing into Cat/Yusuf's BRILLIANT MIND and trying to figure out what he is thinking about when he writes his WONDERFUL MASTERPIECES! OKAY, lets see! LEt's try BITTERBLUE! You ladies start, and I will join in later!

"Bitterblue", a great song indeed. Sometimes I think Cat was talking about a dying romance. It has all the foundations for a failing romance but for some reason when we think that Cat was talking about romance with a woman he is often talking about some inner thing with himself. The first line, "I've gave my last chance to you, don't hand it back to me bitterblue"...sounds like he is talking about a woman who is playing games with his heart. But when he says, "Please help me lose this bitterblue" it sounds as if he could be talking about something deep that is troubling him.
God to be able to be like Martin Short in "Innerspace" and be injected into that man's body. I doubt that when we got to the brain we would ever suffer from boredom.

I was thinking the exact same thing, A'isha! Some woman broke his heart, MORE THAN ONE TIME, might I add! That's why he says, I GAVE MY LAST CHANCE TO YOU, because he said he was TROUGH with her! She must have hurt him VERY BADLY! And he tells her NEVER AGAIN! now as far as the part about PLEASE HELP ME LOSE THIS BITTERBLUE, perhaps he was inviting a NEW GIRL into his heart! Hey, in my dreams, that EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN ME! SIGH!
Peace,Vivian

I'm with Anya, I'm not sure what exactly Cat meant by "Tuesday's Dead." I have somewhat of an idea what he means but I don't wanna sound like a baffoon!
Either way, the song's one my favorites for superficial reasons (i.e. the great beat, perfect for driving!) Which brings me to the subject...isn't Cat's music GREAT to drive to!?

O.k., well here are the lyrics to make it a little easier:
I gave my last chance to you Don't hand it back to me bitterblue No bitterblue Yes, I've done all one man can do Don't pass me up oh bitterblue My bitterblue Cause I've been running a long time On this travelling ground Wishing hard to be free Of going round and round Yes I've been moving a long time But only up and down I gave my last hope to you Don't hand it back to me bitterblue My bitterblue I've done all one man can do Please help me lose this bitterblue My bitterblue Cause I've been waiting a long time Aeons been and gone -- looking at the horizon For my light to dawn Oh yes I've been living a long time Looking on and on I've been running a long time Summers come and gone -- Drifting under the dream clouds Past the broken sun -- Yes I've been living a long time To be back beyond I gave my last chance to you Don't hand it back bitterblue My bitterblue I've done all one man can do Don't pass me up oh bitterblue My bitterblue, bitterblue I gave my last chance to you Don't hand it back to me bitterblue
I never really thought this was about love or romance. It's a possibility, I suppose. But I hear the 'searching' theme more strongly. These lines in particular: Cause I've been running a long time On this travelling ground Wishing hard to be free Of going round and round
He seems to be talking about restlessness and dispair.. Searching to find himself, his "light to dawn" This seems to be another reflection of his post-TB state of mind....looking in-wards and questioning.

Thanks [glow=red,2,300] ayah[/glow] Hi Anya, It is in the archives of the site somewhere. I am still trying to find it under piles of posts. I believe it was listed as one of our "Song Of The Week" topics. We used to pick a song each week and discuss it but I can't find those threads yet because they are from a long time back. I will keep looking though. There is also a discussion about it at Catstevens.com somewhere but it is under thousands of topics as well. Love, A'isha

Thanks A'isha i'll look for it too but i have to find it i have no idea what he's talking about and YES Lissette his music's great to drive to (although i don't drive yet) but i beg my dad to put it and that needs a lot of work cuz my parents and my sister are sick of him (sorry) cuz i talk about him all the time and they're fed up of the only tape i have which is the very best of the reason is that he's not that popular in Egypt as i hope and they don't sell ANYTHING of him and i get surprised when i know that people of my age (16) really like him and these are a few. What a shame! i really wish that someday he will be the top again instead of today's meaningless songs!! [glow=beige,2,300] AYAH[/glow]
