I listened to Carole King's Greatest tonight and SO FAR AWAY is definitely the love song I'd like to sing to Cat...maybe not Yusuf though.
Remember his words on Housing of Freezing Steel "I've been looking for the right one to appear" sorry ladies for being a bit forward and vain here, but I truly believed I was the right one, I definitely have things in common with Cat my love for reading all kinds of exploritory motivational books, I love Philsophers and the Great Writers of the past, William James, Emerson, and the like. I'm a amazon/borders junkie. And you know my love for music especially Cat's. I was heartbroken when he dropped out from music, I find MUSIC such a JOY I'd NEVER GIVE IT UP!! And when he sung these lines so convincingly "I will NEVER LET YOU DOWN." Yeah I'm still upset we don't have him with us anymore, his talent and Cat's words have been sorely missed these days! Heartbroken in KC, Janice

For me, it would definately be one of Cat's own songs! Heck, I used to DREAM that Cat was singing HOW CAN I TELL YOU, just to ME! So, I think I would sing it right back to him! For me, Cat was THE ONE! For all my teenage years, he was THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD!!
Peace,Vivian

Awww...Janice, nice honest post. I've read some of your pre and post surgery posts and think you are a remarkable woman. Best to you always...
Carole King's Tapestry album was/is one of my all time favorites. So Far Away is a great song.
Now to your question...hmmm. Me, sing a love song to Cat? Hahaha!! Well, I'm really not a big fan of love songs. I've always thought most of them to be so overly dramatic and phoney. I guess that's one thing I liked about Cat Stevens...his love songs were a cut different; not so blatant and sickenly sweet.
I've always really loved the classic Your Song by Elton John, though. That one might work!! Simple and genuine lyrics...not overdone. I especially like the line, "I hope you don't mind that I put down in words, how wonderful life is while your in the world."

I can't imagine having a mushy love song for Cat. It would probably be one of the more mystical numbers like "Crystal" by Fleetwood Mac. I would dedicate it to him because it is a beautiful song. Now, erotic songs.... SHUT UP A'ISHA BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR FOOT INTO YOUR MOUTH....AGAIN. Love, A'isha

I'm still thinking... Jen, I love Elton's 'Your Song', it was my first choice. But since you named it, I am now trying to come up with another song.

Chaka Khan's "Love Me Still" - the lyrics are so poignant, and they just seem like passages that would speak to his heart - I know they do to mine...

Hey, I would sing Tracy Chapman's BABY, CAN I HOLD YOU, TONIGHT"! The only thing, once I got my arms around him, I would NEVER let him go! I would have someone hand cuff my wrists around his waist and then tell them to lose the key!!
Peace,Vivian

Yesterday Mary and I were listening to Elton John and "Your Song" came on. I have to agree that it is a perfect song to dedicate to Yusuf/Cat. I had not heard it in a while and didn't realize how beautiful the words are in it. They definitely cover how I feel about Yusuf.

Let's also add "You've Got A Friend"....I enjoy Carole's version more than James'. I love 'Tapestry' as well.
Again, Love, A'isha
