In many songs Cat displays touches of anger. Which ones have you noticed this in?
I find "A Bad Penny" to be filled with anger.
"Oh don't say those same idle lies,..." "Oh don't use those same weeping eyes, I'll wipe them no more"
Angry? Yes, he seems to be fed up someone that he had a relationship with and who keeps popping up with the same old behavior. Listen to the pain and emotion in his voice as he belts out this beautiful song.
Okay, how about it, what songs do you detect anger in?
Love, A'isha

There aren't really too many songs where Cat displays anger! A few, maybe, but not too many! ONE BAD PENNY is definately a good choice here as is NEW YORK TIMES! Something must have happened in New York at the time Cat wrote that song that really made him mad! I am trying to remember my history of what events happened around that time! I think that was about the time of SON OF SAM! Maybe the song has something to do with those events!

Hey, how about Image of Hell. Cat wasn't just a touch angry, he was major p.o.'d in that one. Even so, something about the arrangement and the way he sings it always makes me giggle. It's all so melodramatic...esp coming from a nineteen-year old!!
Good topic A'isha. I'll try to think of more to add.

Perhaps Ruins would fall in this category. Oh and also Last Love song to a degree... he sounds a bit bitter,
" did you think you could just put me down like a worn out shoe cause if you don't want me maybe i don't want you "

I think the very notion behind "Where do the children play?" conveys anger. Not that Cat sounds angry, but the lyrics convey a message.

I agree with Christine and Bootmeister that both 'Ruins, and 'Where do the children play?' (and also 'King of trees' )are angry in tone about a situation he feels politically concerned and frustrated about. 'Mona bone jakon' is pretty callous and bitter towards women, and I always thought 'I love my dog' was too, in a kind of back-handed compliment , when he adds that he expects his lover 'to fade'. On 'Bitterblue' he is the one with a grievence, .." I gave my last chance to you..", angry at being on the recieving end of a faded affair, the sentiment is given in a fiery performance. 'I'm gonna get me a gun' (although written with a cowboy musical in mind), with lines like.."all those people who put me down better get ready to run.." sounds about as menacing as you can get, although sung to an incongruously jaunty tune.
In 'The house of freezing steel', he sounds angry and frightened at being an abductee, and '18th Avenue' is angry in a frustrated way, again being in a situation he feels he has little control over.

You know, it's funny, but I find myself drawn to listening to "I'm gonna get me a gun" as I'm driving into work ...... For some reason, it gives me a feeling of satisfaction ..... !!! ;D ;D ;D
Seriously though, I think that Cat's all-time most-angry song is A Bad Penny. It is just dripping with the distaste that he must have been feeling for this woman who had betrayed him time and time and time again.

There are 2 songs that really stand out for me as sounding angry or bitter....."Maybe You're Right" and "Bad Penny". He sounds as if he just wants to be left alone.
