I received the following bulletin on MySpace Tuesday evening:

Now, that's an exciting prospect!
I thought it was interesting that the bulletin came from "Cat" and not Yusuf.
Now, all I have to do is decide what I want to hear on it... Any ideas?

Let be double check mine. Helen, you may have to go ahead and check the next few pages, because as people post more bullitins, those that are on top are pushed down to the next page, so I will be right back.

Yes, mine is there on page three. I'm sure you received one as well, Helen. Check the next few pages. It was probably pushed down as more people posted bullitins.

i have visited the page of yoriyos (the son of cat), what is that name?¿?
he looks very nice, not like cat, but he is cute.

Madreteresa, I'm sure that the Cat Stevens MySpace page is authentic. There is also a Yusuf Islam MySpace. If you look at their friends lists, they are each other's #1 friend. Yoriyos is #2. ;-)
However, I seriously doubt if Yusuf has time to fiddle with these sites himself. Who knows, though? I could be wrong.

It's highly unlikely that Yusuf manages the sites himself. He has staff that does that.

According to this "Back in the spotlight" article that Anette (Butterfly) told us about, when asked about his son's name, Yusuf replies,"His name is Mohammed but he goes by the name of Yoriyos, which is my father's name." Okay, now that we've determined that I didn't make up or hallucinate the MySpace bulletin, and that it is highly unlikely that Yusuf does his own MySpace updates...  ...does anyone have any ideas about how to answer the "what would you want to hear on it" part of the message? I'm really interested in hearing everyone's input. Personally, I'd really like to hear an updated take on "The First Cut is the Deepest." Since he had so little influence on the production of the original recording, I think it would be great to hear how he would have interpreted it then and how he would present it now--especially since this particular song has been so successfully re-interpreted by other artists through the years [in terms of sales, if not talent ]. I love what he did with the older songs on An Other Cup, so I know however he would choose to change the arrangement would be wonderful. Ideas, anyone? joni... |

ok, with the message: i think that whith "what would you want to hear on it",is what kind of music,like new songs, or new old songs (updated), if that, which ones....like african inspiration...
personally, i would like to hear a new album,with more rock and pop, new things, his new vision of music.

I've never really got into myspace either, seems like I'm getting left behind or should we all be on facebook now? Anyway as to a new album I would prefer to hear new songs, in some ways although I have enjoyed some of the updated old songs, I still really prefer the originals and they are what bought me to Cat Stevens in the first place  |

I didn't see it on the bulletins on myspace, but rather received the same exact words in my inbox on myspace. I had written Yusuf a message a few days before (myspace), and was kinda freaked out when I saw an email from Yusuf. Blew me away at first, but I'm sure he has someone taking care of all of that for him. I assume he wouldn't have the time for it.

Hi Phyl! I agree with you! Did you know that someone in Australia did do a musical called "Moonshadows?" And Yusuf is working on a "Moonshadow" musical which is loosely based on his life's journey. The lyrics booklet for An Other Cup says that "Heaven/Where True Love Goes" and "Maybe There's a World" are from the Moonshadow musical. The thread Songs for the "Moonshadow" Musical offers a little info and includes links to a few articles that Anette (butterfly) found and may interest you. All the best, ~Sun~ |
