Michael Jackson 1958~2009 My personal reaction to the news of Michael Jackson's death has been one of shock and devastation. Regardless of the controversy this man attracted, his impact on the music world has been huge. Yusuf today made a statement about this event which I think is extremely insightful: Following yesterday's tragic news of the death of Michael Jackson, Yusuf, writing from Los Angeles, sent the following message: "It's always inevitable, but a shock when death comes. With Michael, it seems to me even more shocking, and I feel very sad. He seemed to have the heart of a child, though he was a giant of a musician. The moment I heard he had been taken to hospital, the worst was anticipated. I hope he finally worked out his purpose in life, before he left it. I just discovered his middle name was Joseph. He'll be missed."Yusuf

MJ was a legend. Sadly, MJ was one more to a list of people who seeked, but could not find true, personal, happiness through fame and fortune. Great shame if he found it, but was too late.

Vicki, not only could he not find true happiness, but I wonder if he even had true friends. I have to believe that his life would have been much different had he not been surrounded by people who only liked him because of his eccentricities, much like Anna Nicole Smith. True friends keep one grounded. Very sad.

It is very, very sad. At this moment we are watching a concert in German TV, brilliant, a wonderful performer. Michael was so fearful of getting ill or of dying. It is a real tragedy. I love these videos and songs.

Jackson's been taking a variety of drugs for a long time. Looks like he died from a combination of them and a shot of Demerol a doctor who was living with him gave him an hour before he died.
This is very common unfortunately here in Hollywood.
Just like Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger - too many "prescription" drugs.
They can find many doctors to write whatever prescriptions they want for money.....Friends who tell them not to do it suddenly find they are no longer friends....Deepak Chopra even told him to stop.
Maybe he had an underlying heart condition, but......They will get the toxicology report from the autopsy in a month. And the police already have the doctor's car.....

The news of Michaels death is so sad. He was so very talented and a genius at his work. I was lucky enough to see him perform a few times.
Every party or wedding I have ever gone to have always played Michael Jackson songs.
It is such a shame. He was very vunerable and people took advantage (as they did Elvis).
Its so true what Jane B said. Where are these people's TRUE friends when they are needed? All they get are hangers on and YES men. A proper friend would tell them if they are going off the rails and try to help them.
I am old enough to remember all this stuff about drugs etc with Elvis. The papers just made mincemeat of him and seem to be doing the same with Michael. They forget the talent of these individuals and just go for the seedy stuff. Obviously to sell papers. It is so very sad.
The world has lost a great talent.
His funeral is on my birthday. Don't have much luck on birthdays the last few years as the 7/7 London bombings were on it too. Think I'll have to start celebrating it on the 8th !!!

What a genius and brilliant talent!! The world has lost a true gift. But what of this world...that could destroy something so beautiful just because we loved it so much? The man never had a chance, he was consumed by fame and fortune. How could he not become a little goofy? He never knew "normal" and was basically a very quiet person. Extremely creative people are a special lot and must take great care not to succumb to the pitfalls; either in their minds, or in this world. It's a tough job and I wouldn't want it!!! It's this sort of thing that makes me glad, in a way, that Cat left the business. I think he had the wherewithal to realize he was at a serious crossroads. He must have been guided by a greater power because the path he chose was not an easy one, just the right one... for him. Richina

Don't forget about Elvis either. It's about time these so called "doctors" get charged with crimes for illegally precribing drugs. As for Yusuf's tribute, it was very touching. Peace,Vivian
