I just posted a suggestion for him under "Saving the Ship of Humanity" in his December blog. I betcha he does something and not because of my suggestion, but because this is where he shines brightest. Feel free to go over there and chime in!

He is probably deep in thought/prayer and coming up with the words only he can compose. What would be great is a UN type of International Event...maybe in Santo Domingo as the Dominican Republic is the same island. Just my two cents.

www.worldhelpforhaiti.org/This organization has posted on Yusuf's webpage ..... take a look at the web site, please? Very inspirational .... NOT a charitable organization - they are trying to mobilize musician's worldwide, no matter how big or small, to give concerts for Hatian relief. Listed are links to the 3 major disaster relief agencies. World Help for Haiti is a global movement for performing musicians to ply their talents to benefit Haitian disaster relief efforts, now. All proceeds go directly to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, Bill Clinton’s Haiti Relief Fund for Haiti, and the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
WE ARE A MOVEMENT… NOT A CHARITY ORGANIZATION AND WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY MONEY.Yusuf's Peace Train is one of the inspirational songs they have listed, and at the bottom of the page: Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam Peace Train “Now I've been crying lately thinking about the world as it is … Oh I've been smiling lately dreaming about the world as one …And I believe it could be something good has begun …cause out on the edge of darkness there rides a peace train Oh peace train take this country come take me home again”Peace all ~~~ Nancy

Great, Nancy! I was just reading the organization's website (those photos really hit one smack, head-on as they speak of the unfathomable terror and horror that those souls are struggling through), and you're quite correct: their aim and goals seem to be very worthwhile. Thanks so much for posting this. -Bud

Wow, Nancy, your powers of natural deduction are quite impressive! Natural deduction: an approach to prove theory that attempts to provide a formal model of logical reasoning as it "naturally" occurs. While easily personifying this definition, you are also providing a valuable service with such due diligence! (Oh, and I guess I should add that I had to look-up the definition of 'natural deduction' on-line... my powers of reasoning (a.k.a. 'smarts') being nowhere near as good as Nancy's!) -Bud

All in all it is good to see ..... I hope that many musicians, no matter how big or small ..... will rally behind this wonderful cause. Remember? "He Ain't Heavy - He's My Brother" Smiles .... Nancy

From Yusuf's SiteHelp Haiti The earthquake in Haiti is another major disaster for humanity; we all have some part to play to help the survivors. There are many trying and I am happy that my song, Peace Train, is among the anthems mentioned by the people behind WORLD HELP FOR HAITI. They are not collecting, merely encouraging people to donate to the following: United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, Bill Clinton’s Haiti Relief Fund for Haiti, and the American Red Cross International Response Fund. I also know someone personally who has gone on behalf of Islamic Relief. So please help and do whatever you can: www.worldhelpforhaiti.org

Regii, what this organization is doing is encouraging performers of all kinds to hold benefit performances (or perhaps release songs?) where the proceeds would be donated to other organizations who do collect money and provide relief to Haiti. With regard to this, we would need to wait and see if there are any such performances we can attend or songs to buy. Of course, there are many other ways to donate in the meantime. Nice to see Yusuf getting behind this, although certainly not surprising. Maybe he will do a song like he did with "Indian Ocean."

I just went up to the site and donated through Clinton's Foundation. Thanks for all the information posted here - here goes that Peace Train again! Just heard from my daughter - that is aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise - there was another quake (after shock I think) 5 - but nothing hurt or injured - moved toward the Cayman Islands/Jamaica. Announced it on the ship. All is well down there with them - they will dock in the Cayman's tomorrow as scheduled. Those poor people - I've been down there - and they are so kind and so nice. They fish in broken down boats to catch a meal for their families. It appears they are able to get in by air now - and hopefully in a few days - will be able to move supplies more readily. I am sure Mr. Islam will have some type of a benefit concert - as will others. Thank all you guys - you are the greatest.... Marge

Has anyone heard if Yusuf sent his NGO people down to Haiti? Even just a little bit of help means the world down there right now. What's happening down there is just heartbreaking and incredible. I know a bunch of ER docs who are rotating thru there since it happened; one of them was in the process of adopting a boy named Sebastien before the quake, and when he went down immediately after to get him.. he couldn't make himself leave, he stayed for about a week and did what he could. I'll post some of his emails here from the first week after the quake, followed by a pic and some videos. Be warned, there are some graphic parts -- this is ER medicine without the medicine part, basically. LadyD, Thank you for posting these emails from the doctor in Haiti. The posts were mesmerizing, and really brought the gritty reality of Haiti to life. They reminded me of the tv show MASH...and of how the suffering and needs of Haiti continue...and of the heroic efforts of people who are trying to help. I really like the picture of the doctor and his adopted son Sebastien. I also watched the videos, which very clearly show the lack of medical facilities...and the resourcefulness and dedication of the doctors and others who are helping. God bless them all. As a mom, I found this to be particularly touching: There is a 6 yo girl with a femur fracture that is horribly crooked and already forming a bone callus so it cannot just be reset. I was explaining to mom that we would immobilize it for 6 weeks and then she would be able to walk some. Mom (who appeared to be just a baby herself) told me that she wanted her daughter to be able to walk like she did before the injury.
I was practically in tears explaining that every hospital that could do the procedure is too busy now. That maybe in a few months there would be someone who can fix it. It would be possible to fix at that point. I hope someone snapped a picture. I don't think anyone could resist her. She had an irresistible charm.
I can imagine only a tiny, little bit of the suffering of the people in Haiti. To lose everything - home, loved ones, limbs - is more than we can bear, and yet that's what the people of Haiti are bearing. My heart goes out to them. I've been sick for the past year (though I'm much better now), and haven't had the energy to post here on majicat, but I felt compelled to thank you and your doctor friend for these posts. You never know how they may touch hearts and encourage the world to remember Haiti and keep praying and sending aid. Thank you. Peace, ~Sun~
