LOL Well one of my recent faves is from the Moonshadow preview.......Yes you guessed it "Doors" "When a door is closed, somewhere There’s a door that’s opening When a light goes out, somewhere There’s a light that’s shining" Really love this....although really i guess i would select loads of lines from each song but that would be kinda pointless . Salaam

"1000 hours I've looked in her eyes, and i still don't know what color they are." This line has always intrigued me. Presumably by "eyes" he means the "window of the soul." Any novel guesses about "C79"? My college aged son immediately thought "Class of '79."

Another cyptic line is in this passage from How Many Times: Because I – I know one thing There ain’t nothing that could ever ease the pain But for your line and mine I want that loving again.
What does "your line and mine" mean? Does "lines" mean "paths"? And then he doubles the mystery by abandoning the thought incomplete, exclaiming instead "I want that loving again." Very effective.

I've always taken C-79 to be a hotel room number.

I've always taken C-79 to be a hotel room number. The premise of C79 is so bizarre. He's speaking to his sons, explaining --- what? That they exist because he couldn't keep his hands off their mother even though she was "a junkie" and he was on the road? And BTW, "I still don't know what color" your mother's eyes are??!?!? This interpretation doesn't seem to cohere well with the rest of the oeuvre. Perhaps it's another "let me know if you can put a meaning to it" song.

I believe he knows exactly what he wrote in that song and its meaning ... yeah... yeah ...

yeah - of all the Cat songs C79 is the most bizarre to me. I love the song but the words just seem a little out of character for Cat - crass. Even more so than Mona Bone Jakon because at least there is some humor in that song.

Yes..although for me the words to C79, especially linked as it is to Sun (Sun/C79) reveal a strange pathos...the woman is fame.and its trappings?..his attraction to the beauty of it...ref best figure...but knowing all the time that its just not.what he really wants.. ref.colour of eyes...............the words were a fascination to me..showed a depth.of contraditions and paradoxes...but then again thats just my take....probably inaccurate and overthought! but when listened to is there not that rawness there?

Some of my fav lines are from Wigwam..
I'm glad I'm alive am I/I'm glad to be alive am I
We gotta get our heads up in the sky We gotta get our heads up Gotta give it time We gotta get our heads up in the sky
Gotta get to heaven get a guide We gotta get to heaven get a guide We gotta have a guide We gotta get to heaven get a guide
Love them....never fail to cheer me up! and the music they are set to is so upbeat..no navel gazing...just get on with it sheer joy of life and a stunning prescience .....

I was born in 1970, a great year ;D Around about the time my Uncle Al randomly met Mr Stevens during a visit to Spain, not sure exactly when that was but the event obviously gave Cat megastar status in my family, so I was just a little baby but I guess you could say 'Tea for the Tillerman' became soundtrack to my childhood and beyond..and passed on to my daughter, who recently 'liked' Cat Stevens on FB, I assume that means she's a fan. Also released in 1970, Where do the children play? Well here of course .. nowadays they play on the internet, very different world for the children nowadays. Back in the 70s, things weren't always great growing up in the UK. Droughts, industrial action, oil crisis striking dustmen .. punk rock, Margeret Thatcher etc etc .. are they better now off, or not .. lol, not sure about that at all. Beautiful song this anyway. The lyrics just always seemed self explanitory to me and simple to relate to life. My fave line? Not sure, all of them? Do I have to pick one in particular.. ? Still listening to this over 40yrs later .. still current.......Enjoy Sandi x

OK, here's an interesting page, with featured lines from everyone's favourite songs by Cat Stevens, starting off with mine.
I long to tell you that I'm always thinking of you, I'm always thinking of you, but my words just blow away, just blow away. It always ends up to one thing, honey, and I can't think of right words to say.
HOW CAN I TELL YOU

Just a random observation. Didn't think it deserved its own thread.
Good grief. I've listened to "I'm Going To Be a Pop Star" dozens of times - it's a cute song. And I just noticed TODAY that he says "here it comes--catch." I heard the "here it comes" part but never heard the "catch." Wonder what he's tossing? The end of the melodic phrase perhaps? Too cute.
Honestly, I could listen to these songs all day every day and never stop noticing something new.

OK, here's a few of my faves from Cat, which my Mum likes listening to, starting with this one-
I've been pushed around, Made to look a clown. (I'm Gonna Be King)
I know many fine feathered friends, but their friendliness depends on how you do. (Hard Headed Woman)

"Pop Star" is never "cute" to me. It talks ironically about his UK '60s stardom, cut short by TB, when he had to come "home".
