This was sent into Majicat by an anonymous source; who was given the opportunity to listen to the entire album. Read his first thoughts upon hearing what is Yusufs first secular album since Back to Earth in 1978.... Read The Fans Review. majicat.com/Fan%20page/anothercupreview.htmEven if the voice is no more the old cat stevens voice (he cant reach the higher notes like when he was famous), this is cat stevens at his best. The general mood is one of a folk album, I can only think to Mona Bone Jakon more than anything else; the production is fantastic, I was scared when I saw who was the producer but he did a fantastic job. The last song on the track list, "Greenfields, Golden Sands", IS A NEVER-RELEASED SONG HE WROTE IN 1968 and which was about to go on Mona Bone Jakon. "Good songs never die", says Yusuf about it. For Yusuf, this song is very close to Lennon's Imagine: "in that respect, you can definitely see a clear stream between some of the old songs of the idealistic 60s and 70s and the new", he says. This one is a lovely, tender folk ballad with a string quartet, wonderful. The new “I Think I see the Light” is terrific: with a stompin' heavy blues guitar riff, horns and in the end even an electric guitar, this is the most rock'n'roll cat stevens you ever heard until now! Terrific vocal performance too. ”Maybe There's a World” is a lovely country ballad, acoustic guitars, a little oboe, I guess - solo in the background in the end, very old fashioned Cat ”One Day at a Time” is a folk ballad, 60s style, very soft and with a nice piano that reminds me of - in a way - songs like Sad Lisa; is quite psychedelic folk, West Coast 60s style. ”When Butterflies Leave” is only 42 seconds of spoken word with an harp ”In the End” is a solid ballad with a very nice melody, I think there is even a bouzouki (in the end..) ”Whispers From a Spiritual World” is another short spoken word with a jazzy piano and a bluesy guitar riff ”The Beloved” might be the masterpiece of the album: a middle-east (but it could be also an Irish theme) string quartet melody, changing of tempo, Youssou n'Dour amazing vocals: is a true tour de force, Yusuf entering a complete new musical territory We already know the rest of the songs “Heaven/Where True Love Goes”, “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, and “Midday”. "in the end", Never in my wildest dreams I ever thought we could have such a great album, so many years after the last Cat Stevens masterpieces..

Even if the voice is no more the old cat stevens voice (he cant reach the higher notes like when he was famous) Whoever wrote this review is obviously not familiar with Br. Yusuf's nasheeds and needs to listen to "In'Nilta" for example. And as far as this statement "when he was famous" goes, what are millions of Muslims who listen to his nasheeds and Islamic works... chopped liver? Just a tad ethnocentric. kareema

there are the fans from Cat's music who haddent forget him still caring him in there hearts and because of him take a look to Islam.Even listning to his songs of the last years with the certainty that he is the person that will bring us together in peace. There for we must exept our diversity and listen to eachother. We must look to the simular things we have and there are many i'm sure.Because of Cat 's influense i'm looking different to many things. The way people behave, the way they tread the invironment only for profit without thinking of the people after us.Because of him and his humantairy work and ofcause other people in the world who help in the way he do i see light. And if we work in that direction without saying my believe is the only truth and we accept eachother we will do immense importend good work.In my humble opinion and with respect for God;that will be agood way to show our love and thankfullness to God. There is a reason why he gives us this music i'm sure.Icould put here one off his beautyfull songtexts he had written in all the past years. But i can only say everytime you want to argue about who is right who his wrong put one of his cds in your player listen really good to it .The pressure will be over. From both sites learning to now eachother culture can make us richer. In the hope that:there are no words,i can use because the meaning still leaves for you to chose you can understand what i wanted to explain .Regine

"it seems to be a very short cd. hmmmmmh"
short with 12 songs?
Mona: 11 songs
Tillerman: 11 songs
Teaser: 10 songs
I could go on, but you get the point. And these 3 (his Trilogy as I call it, all recorded in one breath, january 1970-april 1971) were masterpieces.

It was good review..But the track I want to here is "I think I see the light"..Some of the stuff Yusuf put out in recent years have been tame on the vocals......
Yup Yusuf/Cat is a great song-writer.When he lets go when singing, Sitting,Ruins or seeing him perform Tuesday dead on the majikat dvd.
Simply 2006 is the---- Year of the Cat........If Polydor gets Yusuf to go to america to promote his Album can you imagine it Yusuf on Oprah!

This review is all very well and good, but I'm a little disappointed that the 3 songs "we've already heard" are dismissively NOT reviewed in this write-up. How else am I going to know how the others compare with them??! While the songs I haven't heard yet sound great (on paper), I don't know how the reviewer feels about the other 3... (which I have yet to really embrace fully), so I don't have a barometer to go by...
I appreciate the review though... Thanks! (whoever!)
Regarding the short tracks... maybe they're balanced out by some of the other tracks. Maybe one or more of the other tracks are over-length. That'd be cool!
(And.. Boy!! Once again I have to say it sounds like Yusuf really went all-out with musical instruments in this work. Cracks me up!)

I agree, the reviews and clips I've come across so far are brilliant, I think this CD will easily stand along such greats as Tea for The Tillerman and Teaser and the firecat. I've heard bits of Midday, Don't let me be misunderstood, Maybe there's a world, day after day and of course the complete Heaven/Where true love goes. They're all great (especially Maybe there's a world) and I think that Midday is going to be a brilliant opening tack, to be honest it can't get much better than this.

OK, I'm going to be a little dense here (indulge me) what the hell does "An Other Cup" mean? A reference to "Tea For The Tillerman?" Wouldn't it be "Another Cup?" "An Other Saturday Night?" Forgive me if this has bee all figured out before, but it's of the utmost importance... ; ) love, jack www.jackmctamney.com

Forgive me if this has bee all figured out before, but it's of the utmost importance... ; ) love, jack www.jackmctamney.comWhat many people are thinking is that An Other means something a little different than another of the same. For example, most Saturday nights are pretty much the same as all the others, so it's simply another one of the same. But An Other is presumingly something different than what we previously saw. But listening to Yusuf talk about it, he pronounces it like "Another Cup", rather than An Other Cup". Peace,Vivian

In an interview he said he partly called it an other cup because we all go to cafes to have coffee or some other drink and we all think it's always been like that whereas it was actually the Muslims that introduced that idea to Europe.

By the way, has anyone else heard of An other cup DELUXE??? I mention it because the other day I tried to Pre-order An other cup from a music store and they said that the only thing with that title I could order is a deluxe version with a 44 page booklet, and what's more it costs 35 Euro, which is like 20 - 25 quid!!!!!!!!! He said that if I try ordering it about two weeks before it comes out then it might have gone down in price or another version (not so deluxe) might have come out.
