Hi, I was going through some old music papers the other day and I found a snippet from New Musical Express 18th October '66. It was announced that Cat was visiting the US in November of that year to promote I Love My dog on Decca's new Deram label. Mike Hurst was said to be supervising re-recordings of Cat singing the song in French and German for release on the continent. I wondered if any French or German Cat fans could confirm if this ever came off? I've never seen or heard anything else relating to this.

Hi Susan, peace to you too. I'll give a no-prize to the person who can confirm the answer! I suspect it never happened but it would be nice to know.

Just an excuse for me to say "hi", too, George...
But really... what I would GIVE to hear Cat singing in German! I can imagine it.... "Ich liebe mein Hund.... la, la, la, la!" What a funny (and CUTE) thought.
His German accent sounded pretty good, from what little I heard on the Sink in the Can bootleg! Knowing Swedish was a big help, I'm sure.
I'd really LOVE to ask him how much he knows of each of the languages he's ever learned. That'd be a COOL conversation!

Hey George,
I never heard of the I love my Dog in German, but I have heard that Cat once sang Lady D' Arbanville in French on a French radio station.
If these rumors of a German I Love My Dog and a French Lady D rumors are true, wouldn't they be nice to hear.

Tres Bon! Definitely well within his capabilities...O Caritas and Ruby Love were fluent sounding enough! Although to someone Greek or Latino (!!?) they may have sounded like Dick Van Dyke with his English accent in Mary Poppins!? Though I'm sure his dad would've coached him well with the pronunciation.
I shouldn't digress, but talking of Latin...Cat did put it to some good use with O Caritas! All those hours we spent labouring at school learning the defunct (defunctus?) language with absolutely no use for it in our working lives!! Much like Logarithms and Algebra! This post probably says more about my lack of success with both languages and mathematics!

they may have sounded like Dick Van Dyke with his English accent in Mary Poppins!? George, I'm ROFL!!! (hey, that's funny -- in my preview post... "D y k e" is coming out as "D y k e", NOT "friend." Did Christine fix the censor or something?) Yes, he always seemed very linguistically-endowed. That's something I've always LOVED about him. It's a turn-on. (not Dick Van Dyke ... Cat/Yusuf!!) Oh, I guess the censor IS still working... I guess once you press "POST", that censor goes to work. ha ha!!

I know, George... How about if we say Dick van Dyck. Hey, that leads me to wonder, how come Dick van Dyck's FIRST name is not being censored???
