One of the reasons I love Cat music so much is the emotions he throws into his music. You can almost hear and feel his pain or love he is trying to convey in a song.
What do you think is his most emotional song? This is not to mean just Love songs. But ratherm, which songs do you think he displays his special talent for different emotions the best.
I would rank:
Father Just Another Night Novims Nightmare Ruins Father and Son
I could go on and On,.. which are your favorite emotional songs?

I would rate "The Hurt" as THE song with EMOTION. For me, the very emotions Cat so cleverly conveys, stir a whole range of emotions in myself.

Definitely Randy. The way his voice trembles. The heartbreaking " oh - ohs " at the end... Very emotional.

"How Can I Tell You" - the soft, breathy parts are very poignant.

"How Many Times" is one of those totally emotional ballads. You can almost feel the anguish he is feeling in the song. And then you hear "Later" and can also feel another 'feeling' he is feeling, but I won't go into that unless you like the ole "mona Bone Jakon" topic all over this new message forum. And then 'Banapple Gas' really makes us feel happy, especially if given the opportunity to see the video. No one can ever say that Cat Stevens didn't feel his words and music. You can really pick up on his emotions, much moreso than other artists. Peace, A'isha

Vivian there are other singers who sing with emotion as well.
Van Morrison and Loreena McKennit to name just two. I didn't mean to say Cat was the only emotional singer, just that the reason some of his song have such strong sentiment to me, was because of the way he places his heart into them.
To hear Van sing 'Wonderful Remark' 'Madam George' or 'Have I Told You Lately' or Lorenna sing 'The Lady of Shalott' ' The Dark Night of the Soul' or 'Bonny Portmore' Also brings tears to my eyes.

One of the songs that really lingers in my mind where I really noticed Cat's voice sounding very, very emotional is in The Boy With The Moon and Star on His Head when he says:
But out of all that I recall I remembered the girl I met 'Cause she had given me something that my heart could not forget ......
You can hear his voice falter when he says "that my heart could not forget" ......
Very, very touching to me. Sue

Sue, where did you get that profile pic? WOW!!! Christine is right, there are many singers who use alot of emotion in their music, but none capture it in the way the Catman does. But I am very biased you know. "If I Laugh" makes my toes curl. I love it with all that raw emotion. Peace, A

Sue, I agree with you! And the end of the song, when Cat sings, I'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING I LEARNED, AND LOVE IS ALL HE SAID! PURE RAW EMOTION! JUST BEAUTIFUL!
Peace,Vivian

I was listening to "Foreigner" on the way home from work tonight and I was struck with how emotional "How Many Times" is. I love the way his voice breaks at several points in that song (sigh).

The very end of "Foreigner Suite" is powerful - the part where he asks "...Will you? Will you?..." There's a WHOLE lot of emotion vibrating through that voice! Makes my toes curl every time I hear it.

It's hard to imagine why anyone would give Foreigner a bad review. To me it is Cats masterpiece.

I would have to sat 'If I laugh' is the one that gets to me, the bittersweet lyrics and a yearning melody. Even on the ..Da-da-da's.. his voice conveys great emotion, with some of the most beautiful chord changes ever. Others would be 'Sad Lisa', and 'How can I tell you', very touching sentiments, and I never get tired of hearing these songs even after 30 years.
