The most important thing, though, is that we'll ALL have our copies within a week or two! What a terrific thing to have this concert made available to us now - especially those of us who didn't get a chance to catch the Majicat concert "in the day". I'm planning on picking up a copy tomorrow; ironically, I don't have a DVD player - yet!

Vivian, You'll probably still get your copy first, our post being what it is. FJS Not really. Being that I don't drive, and I have no way of getting to Borders on my own, I have to wait till the afternoon, when Hairy gets home from work, so then he will take me! But I can call as soon as they open, and they will hold a copy for me at the register! Peace,Vivian

Salaam and greetings, I got mine this morning and am in a quandary about whether to open it because it doesn't say on the cover anything about the 'digipack with the concert programme reproduction' that is supposed to be in the initial release. Is it in yours, JoAnne? Was it labeled as such on the wrapper? I've relayed the story before as to why I never saw the concert programme and I want to be sure I get one this time! peace, kareema

But my copy is indeed the digipack and has the mini reproduction of the program. -Joanne

I received my copy in the post first thing this morning, and watched it all through too. It really is a treat to see a whole concert for the first time, (never having seen him play live at the time).
The picture and sound quality are excellent, and, of course, it's a great selection of songs from his most popular period.
The only shame is that the director focused very much on Cat, and it's not until 5 or 6 songs into the set that there are more glimpses of the other musicians. I know he's the man, but the rest of the band are so way back in the shadows like bit players most of the first part, they must have felt well out of the limelight, ( literally...)
The first half dozen songs sound great, but it's a gradual warm up. It's nice to hear the slight variation on the opening to 'Hard headed woman' which has a kind of Jewish flavour to it. The songs old and new mix together easily, and have a fresh feel to them after the possibly over familiarity of the album versions.
In the special features interviews with Yusuf he briefly mentions that his ego must have become a big problem for those around him at that time, and sadly it clearly shows in one or two outbursts between songs.
I think by this time he was already uncomfortable with big live performances, and must have felt the extra pressure of this show with the additional costs and the fact it was being filmed too.
Having said that, in Lady D'Arbanville he messes up on a riff and has a little swear, but seems good natured about it, until the end where he seems to really curse his mistake, (thinking it's off-mic).
Things though then very suddenly relax with a really fun version of 'Banapple gas', mixed with the promo video for the single. The spirits of the whole band and audience seem to go up a notch, and the next 6 songs, particularly 'Tuesday's dead', for me, I think are the high point of the concert, and everything seems to be gelling nicely.
Then comes 'Two fine people' and a real 'Spinal Tap' moment with an outburst about his microphone stand. He tries again to keep smiling but belies his true feelings, with a venomous 'STUPID IDIOT!!', to a presumably old roadie out of camera shot, (I was wondering if the unfortunate guy kept his job afterwards.) Things were going so very well before, I think this spoils the evening just a bit for Cat from that point, he does recover though and plays all the remaining songs well, but, for all the between song chat, ( which is amusing but rarely coherent ), this is a particularly unprofessional sour moment. A bit of a shame, but it does show he is all too human.
As the show was being filmed there were lights on the audience too, and Cat comments that he can see them, which I think was a comment reflecting how, as things had got bigger, he was, inevitably, less connected with his live audience than in the earlier days.
I found I enjoyed the various special feature performances more than the concert, maybe because these were from happier days 5 years before the huge circus, (again literally), of the Majikat tour. The simpler line up, and more urgent performances I think are more enjoyable for me, the songs are strong enough without any big razzmatazz, or 'marracrabradabra', as it says in the tour brochure.
The addition of the 'Father & son' promo and the 'Teaser' animation are a real treat to see in good quality at last.
I love the Beatles 'Yellow submarine' film and there are so many similarities in style and ideas with the 'Teaser' cartoon, I'm sure that some of the same people must have worked on it.
I'm sure this DVD will be a big success as it is a superbly put together package by 'Eagle Vision', and I only hope this is the beginning of more Cat Stevens releases on DVD, we all know there is more out there.

Thx, JoAnne.
I opened mine and yes! indeed it has the concert programme reproduction. Wow! I am impressed with the with package art complete with spot gloss overprint to create the 'shadow' images. I guess that you can take the girl out of the print industry, but you can't take the print industry out of the girl. Watch out, though. The package 'jacket' has the type of gloss coating that shows every fingerprint.
I can't watch the actual DVD until later. This will be the first time I actually see the entire concert. We arrived after the magicians and our seats were at such an oblique angle that I didn't have a full view. So today I'm 48 going on 21!
peace, kareema

Just got mine today on my way home from work. When I paid for it, the guy at the register said "Oh, this just came in today!" So I told him I'd been waiting for it a long time....actually, since I saw the concert (not THIS one, but the Majicat show in L. A.). I'll get teased if I watch it now, so I'm waiting till I have the house to myself! I love that they included the tour program, since I was too smug (or cheap?) to buy one back then. At the time, I remember thinking to myself, "well, I have everything he's ever recorded, and I've read everything about him that's in print, so I don't need a program!" I was wrong! I never knew he dyed his waiter jacket red! With that fascinating news-flash, I bid you all happy watching!

OK, I've watched it twice now! All I can say is .......I LOVE IT!!!! The concert itself is a joy to watch. He seems really happy, and yes, proud of himself too. But I think that's adorable! The best part though, in my opinion, is the 3 part interview. Very enjoyable, and informative, and I like the fact that there was no "interviewer." They sometimes get in the way. Watching the concert brought back memories! He introduced the band in the same way at the L. A. show, and also hollered at us to stop clapping after a bit, so the band wouldn't get big-headed. There were differences in the song list though. Some may have been omitted. I know he played Sitting and Whistlestar when I saw him. And I'm quite sure he did not play Two Fine People....by the way, did he goof a line in that song? I'm not sure what he's singing, but it doesn't sound right at one point. But I can't check, because I don't have a cd with that song on it. About his temper, I didn't find it bothersome at all....easy for me to say, he wasn't calling me a "stupid idiot!" But I thought it was possible that it was a bit of a joke. If not....well, one has to wonder if the mike stand slipped or what?! The Lady D'Arbanville mess-up was funny, and I thought he handled it with humor and grace. As to what he said after the song, well, what young man wouldn't say that?! It's just letting off steam! I love the whole thing! It was worth every cent, and more. Now I just have to pace myself so I don't wear it out!

I received mine today. I have to wait for a little while before I can sit down by myself and peacefully watch it. I cannot believe it has been nearly 28 years since I saw this show in Mobile. It is even harder to believe that I am 28 years older. LOL.... oh well. I will let you all know my reactions after I have seen it. Can't wait.
~~cheers MK

As to what he said after the song, well, what young man wouldn't say that?! It's just letting off steam! I just thought I'd say I loved the concert too, but just prefered the more intimate settings of the studio performances, I think though it's also because from a guitarists point of view, I can't help but study how Alun and Cat are playing the songs, and it's easier and clearer in the studio to see what they're both doing. The outbursts didn't bother me too much, it was just so surprising that they weren't edited out, I think it shows how much Yusuf is relaxed about where he is now, and how he was in those days, and, in a way, it's refreshing that Yusuf can be so honest about showing what his faults were then, as well as the fantastic good things about his music. You can see in the interviews that he has come around so much in the last few years to appreciate the value his songs had, and still do to a new generation. DJ

My DVD arrived a few days ago, but I haven't managed to view it all yet, I've got to 'Sad Lisa' so far. I've been really enjoying it, I wonder if Cat played all the same songs at the Majicat concert I went to, I'm afraid the old grey matter is letting me down, lol. I do clearly recall him playing Miles from Nowhere and King of Trees, I also felt he started to enjoy the concert more from that point, he seemed to be singing from the heart. Banapple Gas was interesting, I've never seen any of that footage before.
I was a bit suprised by the dinky offical programme, at first I assumed I hadn't got it, as I was expecting it to be the same size as the origional and I couldn't see how it could fit in the DVD box.
The performance of Tuesday's Dead was fantastic and well I could go on but I won't, lol.
The problem with the mike stand was surely caused by the flowers being taped to it, or maybe I'm wrong but it looked that way to me. I wonder if some over zealous fan was responsible?
