Well thanks to the MAJIC of our very own Christine and Jill (LadyD) I had the pleasure of representing majicat.com (so to speak) at this event last night at the Tribeca Film Center. ;D It was completely unexpected (and I DO mean UNEXPECTED....I found out about it at noon time in the midst of what I thought would be a typical workday). Anyway....so there I was drinking fruit juice and talking with David Gordon, Mohammed Khan, Bill Levinson, a bunch of people from Eagle Vision and a whole lot of other folks who kept asking me "who I was with" Oooops, forgot to mention the guest of honor...yep, after 11 LPs, 2 song books, 1 Teaser and the Firecat Book, 1 Bamboozle concert, 1 Majicat concert, 15 CDs, 11 replacement LPs, 1 boxset, several bootlegs, and a trip to London to attend NOR (whew!!!)...I met Yusuf Anyway it was a lot of fun, everyone was really nice and gracious and made me feel very welcome, especially Mohammed Khan who almost had to chase after me and Pat to invite us to stay for dinner! The DVD is fantastic everyone...once again Yusuf and his team did a great job. Funniest quote of the evening, I mentioned to David that I had attended Yusuf's NOR concert in London. He replied..."You must have very wealthy parents" "Ummm, parents?" I said with a puzzled grin. "Oh, are you a working girl?" he said. I had to laugh at that...suppose he thought I was a tad younger than reality As always, it's a pleasure meeting Cat Stevens people!! Yusuf always brings the nicest people together. Okay guess that's enough huh (?)...don't want to spoil the surprises for anyone lucky enough to secure an invite to the LA event. Think I'll watch my DVD tonight!! -jen. p.s.....was REALLY wishing Cheryl and some of the other NY-ers could be there Was thinking of you all.....HONEST!!!! BTW, everyone gave majicat.com RAVE reviews!!!

OK, I'm GREEN! What a marvelous evening! I'd have been speechless, so it's just as well I'd never be invited to one of those "do's." Thanks for sharing about it!

Jen, I'm just glad you could jump at such short notice. I would have loved to use the tickets my self, but since I couldn't run to NYC in such a short notice, I'm glad there was someone in NYC who could attend in my place. I hope you had a wonderful time. I was so envious of you last night. hahahahha

Thanks for the responses everyone. Hey, BHW you would have done just fine if you were there. Believe me, I'm no sparkling conversationalist -- I do much better with a keyboard in front of me. Funny how that works! -jen.

I had a very brief conversation with him at the beginning of the evening. I'd been standing talking with Bill Levinson (producer of the remastered CDs and boxset) who I've met before (we sort of live near each other) when Yusuf arrived. Of course Yusuf immediately came over and greeted Bill. Then two guys who were fans (one was attending the event as a guest) started talking to him and asking him to sign stuff. One guy had like every Cat Stevens album for him to sign. He was so incredibly patient with that. I sort of struck up a conversation with David while he signed away. I kinda don't think Yusuf grasped the fact that I was there as a fan...I think at that point he mighta thought I was with Bill or that I was there as media (most of the guests it seems were "with" some media outlet) So finally he glanced my way. I introduced myself, shook his hand and we chatted for a few minutes. I mentioned that I had attended NOR and I think he may have started to put it together that I was there as fan. But at that point, we were all getting swept inside...me right next to him. ;D Anyway...I pretty much stayed out of the way the rest of the night. I don't know I didn't want to "bother" him you know...he was so busy. So I just chatted with other people. I have to add that I found David very pleasant and down to earth...a really nice man and easy to talk to. It was nice just being there mingling with Yusuf's colleagues and observing him doing the same. It really was a special evening for me. Once again many thanks to Christine and Jill who made it possible -jen.

Jen, that sounds like a great evening . I must admit I'd wouldn't want to ask him to sign loads of albums like the guys you describe. Yusuf may have been good enough to sign them but I wouldn't want to put him under that sort of pressure, a bit too much like the old days which he wanted to get away from. Bet you never expected the day to arrive when you'd be so close and at such a great setting ;D.

Cristalina, if I ever thought of meeting him I figured it would be at something more like the DC radio interview with a lot of sitemembers in attendance. And I figured I'd be hiding behind my Tea for the Tillerman album (but just ONE album ). This was a really nice alternative. Well, the good thing about the guy with all the albums is he DID seem like a real fan...not like someone who would just turn around and sell them. Yusuf took his time with his signatures and was careful not to smudge the ink, etc (sweet!). But yeah, it seemed fairly laborious (and a bit too much to ask). -jen. p.s...thanks for posting the link to those on-line photos Joanne. I'm happy I'm not in them.
