Ok everyone, let's try to get some things moving around here. Is everyone excited about the new live CD? What are your thoughts? I have been checking all of my sources and I think I can definitely pre-order it very soon. What other little tidbits do ya'll think Yusuf might have up his sleeve for us? I am thinking he might delve a little deeper in his 'magic vault' and find a few more hidden treasures.
Things have gotten very quiet around here lately and Ihtink it is time to stretch and start moving around. I don't have a lot of online time right now due to the medical problems of my mother past and future, but I will start popping in a bit more. So come on everyone join in the discussion. Let's keep this great board moving forward.
~~cheers MissKitty

As far as new and upcoming tidbits in that magic vault, I am sure there is much more to come. I think we can safely say that Yusuf loves surprizing us, and we love taking it all in. Peace,Vivian PS I hope your Mom is doing better. Please let us know and send her our prayers.

Is there any reason I would want it when I have the DVD? Does it have more songs or something?
I really am not fond of the concert. Cat is frantic and the whole thing sounds tense and out of sorts. I did force myself to watch the whole thing through once.
Perhaps with out the visual it would sound better? I might be able in concentrating on the sound find pleasure? But it all sounded like they were pushing the tempos half a click. I figure so they could fit more in or go home earlier or something. Really unfriendly sounding to me. Turan

Sorry to bring some reality, however the CD is only really an audio extraction from the DVD. Ok they may add a small bonus and some new artwork but it is already something most of us have heard before. I would prefer a NEW release, maybe one of the many other concerts that WERE recorded or the unreleased tracks that did not make it on the box set, even the complete Granada Up Front would have been appreciated. Before I get a tirade of personal negative comments can I point out that I am not personally attacking anyone, this is my opinion! Personally I think this would have been a good opportunity to release something else.

I am sure no one will attack you here. The whole idea of this thread was to get opinions. Thank you for yours. What you and Turan both say makes a lot of sense and I completely understand where you both are coming from. For me the reason I want it is simply to have a live version of the songs to listen to whilst I am driving. I know that there are better versions out there and I wish that it was another one. But as much as I love the BBC concert it is to early in his career and I like the fact that this one, coming when it does has a broader cross section of songs to pull from. Most of the live stuff is from 1970 and '71 and is just to narrow in scope for me. I wish that the concert I attended in Mobile, Alabama had been recorded, because if my memory serves well and I think it does it was wonderful. I do not remember the songs being speeded up. Of course I was so excited they very well could have been. Anyway thanks for the comments. Anyone else have anything to add? Pro or con. Feel free to state your opinion. This is not for reprisals but for discussion. I trust that we have not all lost the ability to discuss with out attack and fights. ** Viv ** Thanks for asking. My Mother is doing better in some ways but still having problems in others. All prayers are sincerely appreciated and will be passed on. ~~cheers MissKitty Sorry to bring some reality, however the CD is only really an audio extraction from the DVD. To be fair '70/'71 was the period where Cat was far superior live. Cat's lyrics lent themselves to the intimacy that the smaller venues provided. Cat had already moved away from the elaborate and over produced sound at Deram. During Bamboozle and Majikat he returned to being over produced. I never tire of listening to live material from Cat's reinvention period that begun the day Alun and Cat amazed the audience at Plumpton 1970.

I love the DVD, but probably won't buy the CD. I think if I heard the same songs, played exactly the same way in my car, as well as at home, they may lose some of their freshness. MK makes a good point about the earlier concerts. While they are fantastic, there just isn't as much variety of material to choose from. Think of how his style changed and developed from 1970 to 1975! Turan, I wonder if you're getting vibes from the DVD performance that he's not all that comfortable in front of those cameras. He has said as much, and perhaps you've picked that up. I, myself haven't noticed that. Probably because whenever I watch the DVD, I'm transported back to that magical night of February 3, 1976! Ah, such nostalgia!

That is an interesting idea, that I pickup his discomfort with the cameras. Could be. However I think I am not able to generate the excitement of being there. I am sitting in my quiet livingroom watching a video on a little screen. I haven't the memories that you have to help me generate the adrenalin rush of a concert enviroment. I don't think much of the camera work. I saw way too much of his under chin, not enough of hands and other band members.

Yes, I agree about the camera work. Peculiar glimpses and fleeting shots galore!

I thought too, there was very little of the band shown on the DVD. I have struggled to find Larry Steele there, but I'm sure he was. Jackie
