I didn't see the interview, but heard something about his reaction to the terrorist acts in Russia etc. I also read somebodies post saying comparing some terrorist acts with the terror acts in Israel like comparing apples and orange.
My question is, without going on with the history or anything, is targeting innocent people in Israel justified? When a suicide bomber goes into a place where families gather, knowing that children will be there, and they purposely target those innocents, is it justified?
I just need some clarity on this, although I'm sure there are many different opinions.
My own opinion is that I feel terrible about the Palestinians situation, but nothing justifies targeting children, or innocent people, no matter what, even if they are Jewish.
Thanks

Well we have this: Yusuf has said many millions of times that taking ANY innocent life is against Islam, and further says that suicide is also against Islam. Common sense tells me that includes suicide bombers. He has said that he never ever knowingly supported Hamas, and didn't even know who they were when the Israel fiasco began. He would never give to anyone he knew were terrorists That's the only clarity I need. I hope you do manage to see this show, because I think seeing how hurt Yusuf is by being lumped into any terrorist group should be enough to convince anyone. Yusuf doesn't need any more grief and false accusations thrown at him. He is hurting plenty enough already. And by the way, I happen to be Jewish, myself.

well, that's good to hear, because I really used to love Cat Stevens... I had a major crush on him way back when. I do remember there was a really interesting show about him a few years back. (before 911) and he seemed really happy with his new religion. Well, I hope he gets all this straightened out...

And after getting to know him and meet him(two times in recent years, as Yusuf, there is plenty still to love and respect about the man. He truly is a man of peace, and he would never hurt a fly, let alone another human being.

Thanks Well, I agree with your post, up to the last line. What exactly did you mean by "nothing justifies targeting children, or innocent people, no matter what, even if they are Jewish?" Substitute "Jewish" with "Black," and everybody would be jumping all over you, calling you a racist for that remark. It sounds as if you think there's some sort of hierarchy in the value of human life. I hope I'm just being overly sensitive, or that you stated your thoughts akwardly, but didn't mean it the way it sounds. I've just been over at the other site reading all the nastiness, and I'm finding it nauseating. I'm beginning to think I should wrap Cat Stevens up lovingly in my memory, and not follow what's new with him any more. The saddest thing is, I don't think this latest controversy has as much to do with him as it does with the "fans."

Hello, I'm not sure what exactly Yusuf may or may not have said, as we just heard it second hand. But my thoughts are that perhaps the subject is not as black and white an answer for him, as we would hope it is, and he is still analyzing it on a personal level. He doesn't want to get in the same situation as he had with the Rushdie affair. As for me, it doesn't matter, black, white, Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, Mexican or Chinese, a death is a death. Humanity begins with understanding of all races and creed. Boneheadedwoman, I understand your frustration with many of the fans. But, I hope you don't categorize everyone of us in that same category. I really believe most fans are very loving, soul-searching, peaceful people who yearns to see a compassionate world. Of course, there will always be a few who aren't as sympathetic toward their fellow humans.

L love this site, and I don't think I could ever stay away for very long! Yes, and I wish those whackos would watch the 20/20 show and see for themselves just how hurt Yusuf is over all of this. Of course for some of those whackos, it wouldn't matter.
