I've just heard the recent Yusuf Islam and Ronan Keating collaboration on 'Father & Son'! This is such an incredible landmark! It's just slipped out very modestly on Ronan Keating's '10 Years Of Hits' compilation! It's the first time that Yusuf has sung in a contemporary style for quite some time. Yusuf's voice is exquisite, it's got richer with age. The one thing lacking on the original Boyzone cut was the dialogue and the revisit is just unbelievable! I'll be buying it tomorrow! Ronan has just spoke about the recording session on the radio. I'm glad I had an ear cocked. The session wasn't filmed but they took photos and Ronan said that Yusuf obliged with the Father's lines after some initial hesitation. He also said that he'd always loved the song and sang it when he auditioned for Boyzone a decade ago. This is very significant news for us!

Yusuf's voice is exquisite, it's got richer with age. So very true! It's absolutely wonderful to hear that warm, rich voice once again accompanied by instruments. I'm in tears. Tears of happiness. -Joanne

It was really nicely done. Ronan Keating did a good job of it and Yusuf sounded great.

"Cat Stevens and Ronan sing a duet on 10 Years of Hits with Steven's classic song, Father and Son. Cat Stevens was in the news because he was refused entry to the US for being on a blacklist of people who posed a threat to US national security. Cat Stevens' last single was Another Saturday Night released in 1974 but bookmakers have put odds on Ronan and Cat clinching a Christmas number 1 (25/1) if the song is released. The pair formed a close friendship after Boyzone released a cover of Father and Son in 1995. Louis Walsh signed Ronan to Boyzone when hearing him perform an acoustic version of Father and Son when he was sixteen". Christmas No. 1!!!! According to Ronan it was this song (F&S) that has inspired him to pursue a career in music and that he is forever indebted to Cat Stevens.

Oh My, this is fabulous!, talk about a pick me up after these last 2 weeks. Ronan and Yusufs voices are beautiful together. I was almost in tears listening to it, although I couldn't stop smiling the whole time. So it was a mixed bag of emotions. Thank you Ronan for convincing Yusuf to sing with you, and Thank You Yusuf... it was well worth the long wait. This has to be the most beautiful remake of Father and Son, I have ever heard.

Where did you guys hear the song? I went to the BBC website and it seems they only played a short clip. I want to heat the whole song ! Very very sweet sounding. Our man is popping up everywhere these days. There's something about RIGHT NOW....his music just sounds soooo good. Better than ever. Good things, people, songs, etc always rise to the surface. And this is a huge step for Yusuf (blending his voice with instruments), yet how gently he sort of slid into this. He was ready. And I think the world is ready to hear that sweet voice again...yep, I do!! Something is in the wind ... -jen.

According to Amazon UK site it was released October 11th. www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00062OHCY/pd_ka_0/202-8565490-1869460Also, on the BBC radio 2 website, you were able to listen to a short clip of the song and a Ronan interview. Though, they probably change the audio from day to day with their programs. So, it may not be on the site any more. You'll have to check to be sure. Check by clicking on the 'Listen Again' .. then go to 'the Album Chart'

I can't even hear the short clip. I went to the BBC radio site, and the show started to play, but cut off after two minutes, long before the song came on. I think the only way I can hear it is to buy the CD, but does anyone know when it will be released here in the states.

I finally got it to work, and I swear I fell off my chair. You wanna talk about tears of joy, well you got it. This is just so very beautiful. I want to thank both Yusuf and Ronan for this treat, but you know, there is someone else who we should thank, and that is Yusuf's son, Mohammad. If it weren't for Mohammad, Yusuf probably never would have picked up a guitar again. So, thank You, Mohammad. Yusuf's voice with that guitar is just as magical as it ever was. Now to wait for the CD release, so we can all enjoy it in it's entirety, and treasure it for a lifetime.
Peace,Vivian

Beautiful. Heartwarming and poignant.
He sounds like a real father now, doesn't he? How could he NOT re-record this special song after all these years. How could he not!? It was only a matter of time, I see now.
And there'll be more. I'm sure of it.
In a way I think Yusuf's maybe been a bit afraid of jumping into a sea of success again. So many people love him that perhaps it's a bit frightening (he's admitted to this kind of fear before). Maybe that's been the reason for the "baby steps" (...which is understandable). It *must* be kinda scary to be so lovable.

I couldn't believe it when I was out shopping on Tuesday morning, the first thing I heard as I walked into HMV was Yusuf's voice I had no idea it was already recorded yet alone released. It was lovely to hear, also the interview with Ronan on the radio was very nice.

Hie everyone! i checked out Ronan's album today specially for Father & son and................... IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
i think the feel of the song is now somehow more 'complete'. what i mean is..u have Yusuf singing one section where he is the father and he sounds exactly like that - a father giving advice! and together with ronan as the son it just feels right.
Yusuf singing "...think alot...", it's like Yusuf wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to the younger general public who may not know him that well to think about who he is now- Yusuf Islam, former Cat Stevens the young superstar who is now truly calm & at peace with himself and willing to share some advice with anyone who needs some. The music part was great too, i really like the instrumental part i think it's simple but wonderful and the way it fades to Yusuf's section...superb. All in all, personallly it's my favourite version of all and that includes the original!
To better things ahead InsyaAllah (God willing).
