My wife and I bought the Majikat DVD this weekend. What a wonderful experience. I don't think I have ever seen such a joyful performance by a rock/pop/folk musician. At times, particularly during Peace Train, I couldn't keep from smiling and wishing that I had been there. If a 28 year old concert recording has so much joy and energy, what would it have been like to be there? However, I couldn't help wondering if he was high at the time, despite his claims that he wasn't. He was completely incoherent whenever he opened his mouth to do anything other than sing. It is kind of funny to imagine Alfred Hitchcock somehow inspiring Peace Train. Man, if oxygen is enough to make a person that "zonked", I gotta get me some.

Hello Nickleby, Welcome to Majicat and Majikat. The Dvd is a wonderful concert isn't it? My favorite spot has to be during the performance of 'Tuesdays Dead' There is such enthusiasm. I love it. As for the oxygen comment, did you read the recent article in the Classic Rock magazine? Yusuf (cat) comments further on what he meant by being 'high on oxygen'. check it out... majicat.com/articles2/felinegroovy.htm

Christine, Thanks for the link to the article. It's a good read. The part that interested me the most was the reference to Nick Drake, another musical idol of mine. I find it interesting that the author called Drake a "darling of the rock media". I own all of Drake's albums (granted, there were only three of them), and have copies of every bootleg/home recording I can get my hands on and I have read everything I can about him. I was under the impression that he was so shy and such a slow perfectionist that, even though Island picked him up, he was never really marketed. Thankfully, that VW commercial finally gave him the exposure he deserved ... even if it did come decades too late.
I know ... this is a Cat Stevens cite and here I am thinking about Nick Drake, but ... hey ... what can you do?

You'll notice there are quite a few Nick Drake fans amoung the Cat fans. I just recently started to listen to him, through the generousity of a Cat friend who is also a huge Nick Drake fan and promoter. I don't know to much about his life, but I am really starting to enjoy his music.
