www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=623093§ion=newsNot sure how many fans of Bob Dylan are out there, but I was happy to hear that Bob's song 'Like A Rolling Stone' made it for Greatest Song of all time in the Rolling Stone Magazine. It's always been one of my favorite songs. I'm really happy it didn't go to an Elvis song, who always seems to take the #1 spot in these surveys. I don't know if any of Cats songs made it into this list, but here is the top 5 list. #1) Bob Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' #2) Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction #3) John Lennon's "Imagine" #4) Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" #5) Aretha Franklin's "Respect"

I must say Christine that is one great song. I can't say that I would pick it as the number one for me, but that is only because I love so many songs, covering so many styles of music, but I am with you, considering what could have been picked, I am quite pleased and happy with this one.
BYW, I hope you are well, it looks like I may be getting out more now that my mom is getting better. Hopw to see you around again.

Like MK I'm not sure I would call "Rolling Stone" the greatest song of all time (my guess is that the magazine is doing some weird kind of self-promotion here). I love Bob Dylan, and I definitely think Rolling Stone is an awesome song, but I'm not sure I would put it in even the top 20 songs of all time. Maybe it would be in the top 10 rock songs of the 1960-70s.
As far as the other choice, I just don't like Imagine or Satisfaction. I don't like the messages of either.
So, what would be my top choice for the greatest song of all time? Probably something like the Messiah, Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto, Chopin's Scherzo in D (B?) Flat Minor, maybe Pachelbel's Canon in C, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Debussy's Claire de Lune, and maybe even Old Macdonald Had a Farm. I mean, if you're going for sheer command of music or recognizability you have to stick with the classics or go with a nursery rhyme.

If this is a pick of the top five ROCK/POP songs of all time, this would be MY choices:
1.Born To Be Wild-Steppenwolf
2. Friday On My Mind-The Easybeats
3. All Day & All Of The Night-The Kinks
4. Bus Stop-The Hollies
5. Louie, Louie-The Kingsmen
And of ALL the LIVE performances of a Rock/Pop song I ever heard, it would undoubtedly be the utterly soul-stirring rendition of "Jeremy" that Eddie Vedder did with his band Pearl Jam for the MTV award show! I swear he was literally ON FIRE that night-literally shamed every other artist on the bill that night....including Nirvana(Cobain himself publicly said it later).
Shirley P.S. I've been searching for my copy of that performance for over two years now-I've had SO MANY friends ask me to make them a copy of that AWESOME performance. I'll never forget the accolades Kurt Loder gave Vedder that night..never has Kurt gushed on so over anyone else..either live OR in-studio!

If I could only choose ONE song, it would likely be either Claire De Lune or Reverie, both by Debussy. Shirley

I really like and respect Bob ..and Like a Rolling Stone is my favorite of his ..but of all the songs EVER I don't know if I think that's deserving ..The mag. probably just chose it because their magazine is named after it.. my top five would probably be..
1)Father and Son ..if you dont know who it's by, you shouldn't be on this board'
2)Bohemian Raphsody.. by Queen
3)SmellsLike Teen Spirit .. by Nirvana
4)Vincent.. by Don McLean
5)Hallelujah.. by Rufus Wainwright
