He's getting older, voices change with age. Dear Old Mick Jaggers voice isn't quite the same either, neither is Neil Diamonds. Though I still love the sound of Yusufs voice.

I love the sound of Yusufs voice too. It is a little more rough sounding but that makes it special to me. I am sooooo happy that he's back!!!

That's very true aween, age helps sometimes. Rod Stewart built his career on a "rough" vocal style. It never hurt Chris Farlowe either. I think the voice is still unmistakeable Cat, especially on 'Midday'.

It's such a shame that Dylan relies on those Helium balloons to hit the high notes, very true '76.

Having seen both Rod stewart and Mick Jagger in concert this year, I can say with certainty that Rod's voice has lost some of its punch. Mick's voice is stronger and more powerful then ever. Aging is individual on its effect on voices. Yusuf's voice sounds the same to me. The only difference I noticed was the lowered intensity between foreigner suite and where love goes, but that is easily explained by the different meanings to the songs. Yusuf's voice sounds just as delightful as ever. Vaun

Yusuf's voice is much smoother than Cat's, most likely because he gave up the cigarette and booze habit, but I can most certainly here Cat in that voice.
Peace,Vivian

Glad to see that you're still around cristalina ;D Fingers crossed someone will post a link to the 'midday' clip. My pet cat can't wait for the new Yusuf CD. He purrs every time he hears 'Heaven/Where True Love Goes'. I've turned him into a fellow Cat Stevens addict!

I noticed that Yusuf's voice is a bit rougher now, but it's still quite appealling. I suppose our voices change a bit as we get older?
I really love what I have heard of his new music so far!

I know what you mean, ruins.
When I first watched his concerts in 1970-71, compared to the majicat concert especially, and in such a short time, you can notice how much deeper and rougher his voice sounds.

seems to get real gritty around Catch a Bull, but I love it. By Back to Earth he seems cleaner and crisper. I haven't yet heard the new song so can't comment there.

Sorry Gizmo, I don't have a link, I heard it only very fleetingly from the NPR radio broadcast. It won't be long now until the album is released.

joni mitchell, paul mccartney, stephen stills, willie nelson, joan baez: they all changed their voice approaching their 60 - the fact is that these people toured and recorded in the last 28 years, while yusuf did only some rare recordings and no tour at all

True, when you consider that in the 80's he did absolutley nothing and in the nineties and since has only done a small handfull of songs (mostly nasheed, so very different from his new album) he still has a remarkabe voice.
