I have never defined Yusuf/Cat's voice as "rough". That is a quality I hear in Dylan,Bob Seger,Tom Petty,Rod Stewart and Willie Nelson. To me ,Yusuf always has had a very rich, smooth voice. As for all these singers sounding different at 60, I disagree. It is very individual.Yusuf sounds much the same as he always has;he is simply performing a different kind of a song; far more low key and mellow and his style of singing, including his voice reflects this change. As for Dylan, his voice has always been controversial. It drove my parents crazy back in the 60's. He is simply a musical genius whose writing transcends his voice. After all,his album debuted at#1 recently ,and you can't say that for too many 65 year olds with "no voice". What is this? A bash, aging successful singers thread?

yep, i do think they all should retire from business
except cat who was missing in action for about 30 years :-)
(a little bit of joke in this post but on a more serious note if you listen to the new Who album, you will feel embarassed by roger daltrey today voice...)

Dylan....the poor lad never could sing but I love him.... he is a poet that just happened to pick up a guitar. His singing voice has always been god damn aweful but he is dylan so we listen. It is an aquired taste

mmm... i actually rate bob dylan as the greatest vocalist ever.. but until year 2001, when he lost completely anything left of his voice
bob dylan of course dont have a ' good' voice - he have 'a voice' (until year 2001 :-)

Yeah and swearing is not allowed either. Unless I missed something. Is it written somewhere that members can now swear on the boards? Gee, I didn't see it anywhere, so yes, I am pretty sure that swearing on the boards is prohibited. We don't talk like that here.

Yoga is Yoga, we say it the same way

you say it the same way. I don't think so. My Yoga instructor speaks Arabic and he doesn't say it the same way. He says it HIS way, in Arabic.

Oh and to be more on topic, I feel just the opposite as most, I think. I find Yusuf's voice to be softer and smoother than the Cat voice which was then raw and sensual. Like it or not, Yusuf sings the new songs with his Religion intoned in his voice, style and lyrics, done in a more fatherly fashion. I like the old Cat much more, if I may be allowed to be very honest. That's not to say that I don't like Yusuf's style though but I think some people will be disappointed, especially the ones who feel "Cat" is coming back. Cat is NOT coming back. Yusuf is arriving. Big difference.

Absolutely Bernadette, it's from a spiritual perspective, I don't feel there's a huge difference however since they are the same person. It's just on different terms. Most Cat fans aren't expecting Tea For The Tillerman and Yusuf will have a whole new audience.
Reading through the above posts, we should accept those people whose first language is not English.
Also, since some members will be offended by the use of bad language we should refrain from using. I'm sure Christine would agree, use the stars or "furshlugginer", Mad magazine got away with that for many years.
A general criticism , I worry about bickering on the boards, the thing that most attracted me to Majicat was the friendly easy going vibe and its respect for all viewpoints. That's something to aspire to.
Peace

I do accept people whose first language IS not English, George. I accept those people very much. I also don't like swearing or bickering on the boards but there are some things that I dislike even more. No sense in elaborating; otherwise I will be the one to be reprimanded. And BTW I know that Yusuf and Cat are one and the same person. I was merely using his then and now names symbolically.

Firstly, Bernadette, you're okay! I sense there is some history here that I know nothing about and is absolutely none of my business. There's a danger of the boards being used inappropriately which is to be avoided at all costs as it's a agreat place.
