Hi there, mates Believe it or not, but today marks the turning point for much of my fanship...I have finally done it! What? I have to admit it: I had never heard about a Stevens/John duet way back in the '60s (when Cat was the pop-star and Sir Elton just a toddler...though he's older than Cat), until I bumped into the selling of that box-set on eBay...I couldn't believe it: a dream coming true...Sir Elton had sung with Cat! I immediately opened up my SoulSeek and did my best to download 'Honey Man': just one hour and it was done... I thought it was just going to be a Cat song with Sir Elton on backing vocals, guessing Cat was already famous then while Sir Elton was almost unknown to the masses...I was gladly wrong, that was a duet!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back in '85, when I first realised that 'Wild World' was a Cat song and not an Elton John one, I couldn't even imagine all this would happen... I was flabbergasted when Sir Elton sang along with Billy Joel some years ago, but what about today??? It's been 21 years I've been waiting for this moment. Can't stop my mp3 from playing on and on and on...will I be able to sleep tonight? Celebrate.

Elton and Cat must have been friends back in the 70's. Actually probably most pop/rock stars were acquaintances of each other. There is an article on Majicat, that mentions both Elton John and Neil Young were influences when he wrote the song 'Ghost Town' I don't know what he meant by influence, though. I guess they were they when he was composing it. Also Gian, I remember the first time I heard Honey man. my good friend Keith introduced it to me back in 1999, they had interviewed Elton on the radio and in the interview they played the song. I about fell off my chair when I heard it.

Better be quick Jan! Want me (or anyone else) to send it to you? It's really worth it, believe me, the Pinner lad and the fellow Holborn God work like an atom bomb! Thanks Christine, I didn't know much about the story behing 'Ghost Town': I can hear Elton in it, though I can't hear Neil Young there, if not in the use of steel guitar, but that's no problem at all! I wouldn't be surprised Sir Elton and Cat were friends, since I know Cat lauched Peter Gabriel in the rock arena too, Ian Gillan and Pete Townshend used to attend the very same class, Sir Elton helped Supertramp's Roger Hodgson record his very first solo single, Phil Collins and Yes's Jon Anderson were close friends, I mean...London was bruelling of stars then, who were very normal people indeed and wouldn't deny a night out at the pub... Wow!

It's one of those odd combinations....Cat and Elton...Cat and Ringo Star on drums.....the more interesting is a Yusuf and Paul doing writing some music together... they seem to have chemistry on stage...Still Laugh at that clip of them performing let it be...At the end, that smile on Alun Davies face he seemed happy!

I absolutely *LOVE* them together on Honey Man. Their voices are a great compliment to each other. They twine round one another like two parts of a braid. Wish they'd done more together.
(I love Elton's trademark highpitched "maa-ya-yan..." )

Great signature, Lucy, I'm also a product of the 'Blow Away' days... Cat & Elton: the best act London could offer during those days, no doubt.

The question now would be.....Would Yusuf Islam work with Elton John these days?
