This is an all points bulletin to my fellow Cat fans.
Its my birthday in Nov, and apart from the new YI album, I've asked my husband to buy me a biography of Cat Stevens. He has asked me to find out what the 'best' biography is. So I'm asking the brains trust.
What do you recommend? Where can I get it?
Kind regards,
JennyB

The "BEST" is undoubtedly the one by our very own DADDY-O(AKA GEORGE BROWN). I have them all, though, and they all have something very nice to offer.
Peace,Vivian

I also have all three books and I recommend George's. If you want to read more comments on his book, it's in this section, Cat Stevens, under "Cat Biographies." You can PM George (Daddy-o) to get the details of purchase. The book is very reasonably priced. I don't remember the exact Web site address or I'd give it to you.
The other two books are good, too. The Chris Charlesworth book has some fantastic photos but is difficult to find, usually on e-Bay and the price can go quite high. The David Evan's book probably has the most interviews with people who knew Cat and/or worked with him. It isn't as difficult to find on e-Bay as the Charlesworth book and the price is usually more reasonable.
I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a biography. George's book is a definitive consumer's guide to all of Steve/Cat/Yusuf's recorded work and details the full story of his quest for spiritual fulfillment, initially through his music, as stated in the book's introduction. I found it fascinating reading and highly recommend it.

Thanks friends,
I think by the time the Angel on his right shoulder is divulging their information I may be preoccupied with other things ;-)
So I'll start looking for the other biographies you've mentioned starting with Daddy-o's.
Kind regards, JenB

Thanks Lora, glad you liked it. I'm now taking Paypal by the way ;-) for those people worried about the snail mail equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle. I don't want to tempt fate but I heard recently that my humble tome is being considered for a nomination for an award of excellence for music archive material. I will let you know more when I hear of any progress. Forgive the shameless plug.

I have finally received my Bio by David Evans. It is excellent so far. In my opinion, they are all great. You might like to purchase them all!

George, your book is excellent and a thrill to possess. But I have to also recommend the "Moon and Star" book, because it is such a surprise, with many original interviews, and quite different from the general rockstar biography. As well as Cat's music and career, it looks at elements of the business background to his success and opens doors on his life which you won't read elsewhere.

George's book has been nominated by a member of this committee (or so rumor has it... ): ARSC (Association for Recorded Sound Collections)In judging books for awards, they look at: "...outstanding writing and research about recorded sound..." which I think matches George's bio more than the other major Cat bios.

And the third biography has great photos you won't see anywhere else, so the obvious solution is to get all 3! Vaun
