Thanks for everyone's efforts here! That is such a great TV moment. Lovely to see The Wind so well appreciated and sung so beautifully. Great to see Yusuf wearing Teaser boots!

Hm... but was his performance 100 % live or was just "well decorated" with only his vocal "live" ?? Other's opinions?

Thank you Lars and Arnie! And also waterside These are so inspiring to watch. Yusuf is definately on the go these days. I remember Thomas Gottschalk. Didin't he interview Yusuf a few years back? Oh maybe around 2000 or so? Wasn't it back during the Ninja turtle craze? Anyway, not to get off topic. Yusuf performaces were very impressive!!

Ofcourse "Heaven" was totally playback. Most show casts choose this option. Who cares? The people want to see the show and get a feeling, that the star is standing there in real live (which was for sure expensive enough ). Well, and these strings as shadows behind the curtins was a little surprise. The "Spiegel" writes, it was "over-orchestrated" and the audience "frenetically dis-clapped" the spontanous live song "The Wind". Thomas Gottschalk saved all the situation with honest gestures and being a gentle host - giving Yusuf the chance to present himself in the way he wants. Gottschalk said "well, let's not talk about politics or religion, but we both have from each spiritual view perhaps the same visions of a future world for the children" - letting Yusuf freely speak about it. Just a few words, but expensive minutes in the "Christmas edition" of that biggest show in European TV.

yusuf's voice was giving away a bit at the end.. he looked a little tired.. but definitely battled through it.

I was trying to remember who did the Ninja Turtles interview, thanks Christine!! LOL. Anyway, this was a great link. Thanks, arne! And for being put on the spot with the guitar, I think Yusuf handled it quite well. He's still got it.

Puha, one should translate the interview into English, but this is hard without the written text in German and Yussuf's original answers in English.

comment from youtube (i'm not the only one then :-)
teaformona (1 hour ago) I'm german as well, and it's incredible clapping to this song. I feel ashamed about that, but do not say it's typical german, okay ?

Yeah, I think there was nothing wrong with the clapping - I think it was great and provided him with warmth and encouragement.

I thought Yusuf's performance of Heaven was beautiful. Well done!
I've grown to like the song more now... though I still wouldn't say it's my favorite on the album.

I notice Thomas G. uses the familiar "you" with Yusuf. I guess they're friends... Thomas G. seems like a really nice guy.

That Thomas is quite a character, I like the hat in the 1994 video. He does seem like a nice fellow. Edited to add: BOTH hats, lol !

Interesting interview! I didn't knew about it before. At the end said Gottschalk, that he will invite Yusuf, when he comes back with a guitar, as the first in German TV. Well, this happened.

I notice Thomas G. uses the familiar "you" with Yusuf. I guess they're friends... I didn't see Wetten, dass... the night it was on telly. Only saw the performance on you tube. Thomas treats everybody like that! But after 25 years of seeing him again & again... I was sure it would be on YouTube the day after and it was... But so many people told me that they thought it was a very awesome performance...
