I have this on a dvd I purchased on EBAY. I haven't seen it for awhile. It brought a smile to my face. He was a real cute (and talented )teenager, and what a head of hair! I read he wrote "Granny" for his mother, and said "I hope she likes it." I'm sure many have not seen this clip before. Thanks for sharing. What a guy our Cat/Yusuf is and was!!! Vaun

Vaun I know I thought it was precious ! I had never seen Cat that young singing. At the beginning of the song he looks like he almost broke out laughing & stifled it. All of the dancers look like they are doing the dance of the living dead though . There is Cat all energized and lively and he is singing to the most uptight crowd I have ever seen . How hard was that I wonder? I didn't realize 1976 had already posted it before . ( Though 1976 the old link has been discontinued/removed for some reason)

It's brilliant that these early TV appearances still survive. I've not done a Youtube search, but the 'Granny' clip was preceded by 'Matthew & Son'. For those who may not have seen it, the poor Cat gets his microphone lead snagged in the seating. He copes with it admirably.
It wasn't just Cat, the lifeless audience were equally casual with Jimi Hendrix!!

... All of the dancers look like they are doing the dance of the living dead though . It was a German TV show, right? do you think maybe they just didn't understand English? Still, you'd think the music would have moved them! ? Oh I just assumed they were British....wait I am so afraid that this comment will be taken the wrong way

Wow if Hendrix didn't unfreeze them I doubt much would I'll search for the Matthew & Son one because I haven't seen it.

Re. the audience. Perhaps it was just 'rent a crowd' or the audience just couldn't let themselves go! Certainly the audience weren't as animated as say on Top Of The Pops or Ready Steady Go. It is odd because British and American pop acts were enormously popular in Germany.
I made a mistake earlier, it's indeed the Granny clip where he gets his mic lead snagged.

I'm pretty sure this video was taken from a British teen dance show similiar to American Bandstand, the teen dance show in the U.S. at that time. In the mid 60's, I am guessing this was 1966 or so, this is the way kids looked when they slow danced. There were a couple of way too serious looking girls. I think the heavy eye makeup and over styled hair contributed to "the Look." And, Cat, young as he was sure had some amazing poise about him. He is a natural born entertainer.

The clip was from vintage German TV, called Beat Beat Beat. They are not exactly jiving in the M&S clip from same, but there's one or two dance moves that I've noted for the New Year's party!
