Hello people, it's been a while.
Well, got the collector's edition in the mail this morning and spent the afternoon in my cool basement watching the whole thing (it was 36C outside, unbearable and unbreathable).
They really did a great job at restoring the film. The BluRay version is a feast for the eyes really. And the soundtrack sounds as if it had been recorded yesterday, great to hear our Cat sounding so great and all that incidental music he did for the film coming out crisp and clean. Same goes for The Can's "Mother Sky". The image is a bit grainy at times but this is immensely more enjoyable to watch than the average 4:3 copy I had. I watched it using an el cheapo BluRay player I bought last week at Wallmart! Paid $78 for that machine but the cool thing is that it will play any DVD or BluRay from ANY region once you do a small modification in the factory menu! How long will the player actually work is another story. In any case it played this film flawlessly.
Back to the collector's edition, the documentary is fascinating. Seeing John Moulder Brown and Jane Asher reunited to talk about the movie is really neat! And for those of you wondering, Skolimowski does talk a bit about asking our Cat to do part of the soundtrack.
The collector's edition also includes a great booklet with neat photos and essays.
Well worth the $20 I paid for it. I would venture that it will cost WAY more than that when it comes out in North America. Plus, it took 4 days to get here from the UK!
And speaking about "Deep End", I think it's time for my nighttime dip in the pool. Enjoy the summer everyone!
P.S. Hmmm... I just realised that I got this on July 21st!! Happy Birthday to our musical hero!
